The 2021 MT09 certainly has been getting a lot of flack from the Yamaha community. It's new look has gotten some critique, but it falls in line with the rest of the Yamahas, like the new MT-10 (+SP).
I did own a 2018 MT09-SP for almost two and a half years, so much of my comments will be, more or less, a direct comparison between the two.

Nice video and review. Was interesting to hear your thoughts on the new vs previous version. Bought the SP in late april (from Speed, yay!) and got around 10k km this season. I had originally planned to get a used 2017- SP but after all the reviews coming out I opted for the new because of the handling / geometry "issues" being fixed. I really enjoy the bike and it's a fitting upgrade from a 2003 SV650. Very comfortable upright seating position for me, and the Yamaha comfort seat is really nice. And holy hell that engine is fun! On the SV650, even though also a naked bike with upright seating position, I've been dealing with shoulder pain which hasn't been an issue on the MT. The mirrors don't have the most exclusive look but they are very functional indeed! I've been looking at other options but I'll keep em for now, since they work really well. I was actually not looking at getting the SP but the cruise control is definitely worth it over the standard, haha! Now I can't imagine having a bike without CC. Hope that adaptive CC will become an option for more bikes in say 5-7 years. One 'negative' thing about the bike is a strange suspension configuration. I went to Klev tuning (suspension tuning) and had the rider sag set up for me. With my weight, 65 kg w/o gear, we had to turn the preload almost all the way in on the forks and all the way out on the shock (40 f/sag and 32 r/sag). With this setting the rider sag was still not ideal according to Klev and I was recommended replacing the front fork springs to stiffer ones and shock spring to a softer one. It seems like Yamaha put different weight category / spring rate on the front and back, which is a bit weird. Anyhow the bike handles really great and maybe I'll look at getting different springs later on. I'm no track-junkie (yet), so it works fine on the street. On MT09 forums people have been sharing similar experiences with setting rider sag, even though some dispute the desired 35 f/r number.

Strange indeed..! I’ve never been that into tuning suspension.. I did an experiment with my own 18’SP but never got it right, i’ll leave it to the professionals for now

I just got mine last week. I'm still in break in but other than adjusting to the position of everything from my old bike it is amazing all around. Without using the top end it feels great and I did do one pull up to 10k rpm in second gear just to see what it was capable of and feeling the tire wanting to lift up is almost addicting. The cruise control is very precise and you can just let go and it stays perfectly straight. I am a fan of the quickshifter, it is very firm and isn't as noticeable as other quickshifters which put a lot of slack in the shifter.

I’d pick the new generation MT09SP over an Asprilia RS660 everyday of the week. Not saying the Aspilia isn’t a good bike, but I’d see it as a retrograde step from this bike.

I have the first gen XSR900. Waiting on the 2022 model. Prob will have a lot of similarities to this bike. I think Yamaha did a great job with the whole platform esp since I’m a tall rider. I didn’t feel comfortable on the Duke 890R. I loved the Duke 1290, but the price is just a bit too high.

At all it's a great Motorcycle. Appart from the Headlight, wich is mounted too high, and the handlebars are too high as well. Unfortunately lowering the handlebars would probably cause a problem by touching the fueltank while steering at maximum angle. At least it seems that no one have done this conversion yet.

I will stay with the 2017-2020 gen. I have enough electronic's, it's so simple to work on the last gen bike but not enough electronics to be able to figure out an issue if it came up. I have the up quick shifter never use it, not a fan, biking to me is using the clutch to in joy your ride. This is an electrical night mare I see $$$ coming down the road when you have electrical issues or maintance that was easy on the last gen and MUST TAKE IT TO THE DEALER TO FIX. Also I like that you had to work and think on all the last gen bikes, riding simple bikes is why we ride and are about, not riding a computer.
