If a technician says it's a beautiful amp then that's a better argument than any review. I picked up an mx2 yesterday. Thanks!

Great amplifier. I recently re-inherited mine that I bought new in 1994 (it hab been sitting in my parents' spare bedroom for 25 years). Just had it redone, including a new custom rear panel with new binding posts. It is replacing a Naim Nait XS3 😊

Yamaha is very good in amplifiers, I fixed once a Yamaha rx v730 receiver amp with an earphone problem, the right channel was crackling and it was actually a relay that needed cleaning and after that the problem was solved.

Heck yeah real amp ! Voltage gain is what i look for in specs if a avaible. Just redone my Onkyo M504 new caps and output transitors left power transitors alone , Thankfully my bestfriend worked at emotiva as a manger of their repair shop those 8 caps were a pain in the Ass but end result I would put it up against any new 3k and under power amp with full confidence ! But the amp pulls the power out of the wall had to install my own dedicated circuit may sale soon for a lower powered class A 25 clean watts is all i need honestly

Hi Ben, no nothing of note here other than the issue that prevented the amplifier from starting. Capacitors in this region were tested and good, she ran perfectly after this repair.

Excellent job! I'm renovating a B-2 now and would like some tips. Do You know where I could find the power transistors. I need 2 pairs. I would be very grateful if you could pass me information on the components that you have changed. Once again, congratulations!

Hi Leonardo, thanks for the lovely feedback. Be careful, these amps use VFETs, they must only be replaced with VFETs and these are very scarce now and require careful matching. I have a Japanese VFET supplier, but not all types are available and sometimes circuit changes are needed depending on the grade of VFETs used. I would need your amplifier here for repair and I suggest you take her to an expert unless you are very experienced in such repairs.

Mike's being polite here but realistically unless you're very experienced and know exactly what you're doing with these, it's not worth dabbling with a vfet amplifier... the transistors are just too precious and rare. Not suggesting you don't have the skills but if there is even the slightest doubt, this is the time to pay a professional, and not just any pro. 🙂

Hi, I have an mx-1 which stopped working. At first there used to be crackling on the left channel in some songs. Then later on clicking sounds started. Left channel volume started going low. A restart used to fix it. Recently the left channel stopped working. What could be the issue? I am a noob when it comes to electronics and I'm from Asia. Should I open up the amp and see what is inside and move on from there?
@LiquidAudio
@LiquidAudio 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Tachyon, thanks for commenting, there could be many causes of the problems you've described here, none of them user-servicable items, unfortunately. Technical work like this relies on experience, knowledge of how to resolve circuit faults and so on. Looking inside will not help unless you know what you are looking for - hopefully this makes good sense. Your best bet is to take her to an expert who should be able to resolve the problem for you. If you lived in Perth I would suggest you bring her in for repair. Best of luck getting her fixed!

Yes it is a good idea to bring the amp to a technician to fix her for you because those electronics are not forgiving if you touch something wrong inside.

What is the likelihood that one of these MX-1 amps would still function perfectly today if it hasn't been recapped or serviced?
@LiquidAudio
@LiquidAudio Жыл бұрын
The likelihood of perfect functionality with zero maintenance is low with any piece of electronics of this age. Most of these that I've seen have only needed standard age-related maintenance and small repairs though, certainly not full re-capping etc.

I bought my MX-1 in 1998 (25 years ago!) and it has never seen a day in the shop! :) The CX-1 pre-amp I have with it had to have a couple of cold solder joints repaired, but that's it. Tremendous value amplifiers if you can find one...especially considering what you would pay for the new high end Yamahas today.

Is this better than MX-1000?Anyone knows the answer?Thanks!
@LiquidAudio

Great question, I haven't had the opportunity to compare these side by side, but someone else might have. I have looked at both individually though and they are both superb amplifiers, I'm sure you would be happy with either.
@whiplashmachine
@whiplashmachine 3 жыл бұрын
I would love to compare them. I have three MX-1000u's, an M80, PC2002 and a P2200. So far MX-1000's easily dominate over my other amps. I have a bunch more, but nothing in the same power levels and they don't compare in sound output in my listening room either. One day I will get my hands on an MX-1 though and make my opinion🍻
@beslemeto
@beslemeto 3 жыл бұрын
@@whiplashmachine I already know the answer.MX-1000 is bit more powerful,but for sound quality MX-1 outperforms it.I have read somewhere that MX-1 i even better than MX-2000.
@whiplashmachine

@@beslemeto I still need my own confirmation though. I have an uncle with one, so I have heard an MX-1. But in his setup, room and speaker selection, I feel my setup dominated. Need to do more studies in a "A-B" situation. Plus it would be the perfect opertunity to listen to all my favs again at abnormal decibles😁

hello wanna ask is it yamaha mx2 worth to buy?
@LiquidAudio
@LiquidAudio 2 жыл бұрын
As with anything, it depends on the price. The MX-1 is better, beefier, but the MX-2 is certainly a good amplifier. All of these need overhaul at this age, so factor it in.

hi mate,,is biamping these amps good idea??
@LiquidAudio
@LiquidAudio 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, bi-amping refers to how speakers are driven, so you don't bi-amp amps, you bi-amp speakers. With bi-amping, you need an active crossover and as many amps as necessary to cater to the speakers you are bi-amping. You could certainly use a high-quality amplifier like this in a bi-amping arrangement, but you'd need several of them of course, depending on your speakers!
@aram34
@aram34 5 жыл бұрын
@@LiquidAudio I have got VMPS RM-X speakers and I use MX-1 to power them,so would u suggest I use one.pair of MX_1 to drive these speakers??
@LiquidAudio
@LiquidAudio 5 жыл бұрын
I'm not familiar with the speakers but remember if you bi-amp, you'll need an active crossover, and then you'll need a pair! You can of course just bi-wire your speakers, using both sets of speaker terminals and one amplifier. Much cheaper, simpler and only one amp needed and no active crossover. Good luck whatever way you go!
@aram34
@aram34 5 жыл бұрын
@@LiquidAudio thank you for your advice,I am already bi_wiring them,so I dont need to biamp it seems so
@LiquidAudio
@LiquidAudio 5 жыл бұрын
My pleasure re the advice. Bi-amping is very different to bi-wiring, potentially better, but not something the average end user can implement.
