Wondering why you chose 115 over the 140 Suzuki. Same weight more power for a very little cost difference. I went Suzuki 140 and could not be happier.

Great video. I started looking into repowering as well. I've owned Yamaha on past 3 boats and they have been great. Mine has the squeal that you mentioned. I haven't heard it since my last water pump change, but I know it will likely come back. A lot of my friends and local captains I know have switched to Suzuki and have been very happy. I think I would switch to Suzuki if I repower. I've only heard good things about them. The price point and warranty makes it even better for me. The other problem right now is inventory. It's tough to find a Yamaha right now, but Suzukis are more available.

I have a maritime 23d with a 2009 etec 225. I bought the boat with intention to repower but i did a bunch of pass due maintenance and its so fast and reliable. Im shocked.. i only heard bad things but ive ran 70+ miles offshore n back with zero issues. But like you i have an itch to get a new 4 stroke. I had the driveshaft squealing on my Yamaha and the remidy is to drop the lower unit and use yamaha wr2 greese on the shaft splines and a tiny bit on the brass bushing.

I have the 1890 Skiff and just put on a New 90 Suzuki that replaced a 2004 zuk that was shot due to being on a mooring for years without flushing out. It still ran perfect but other things started going and it was time. The new one runs great and all I had to do to make the original controls work from my 2004 was a pig tail connecter Suzuki has and everything works perfect. It runs great and looks nice in white as well. I see more and more on the water which means better service centers years to come.

Suzuki has chain timing, so you never have to worry about belt replacements in the long run.

Yamaha all day long! I have 1500 hours on my SHO without any issues!

I bought Yamaha on my latest boat. I figure they are number 1 recommended by most folks in the saltwater world for the last decade for a reason.

Sorry to hear your issues with the etec. I have a 90 etec and it's awesome but I recently bought a new boat came with a merc. Just curious did you consider a mercury?

Agree with you on the Suzuki! Plus Suzuki uses a timing chain over Yamaha's timing belt, which requires more maintenance. Suzuki's warranty is twice that of the Yamaha and way cheaper to purchase! Where I live in Tampabay Florida 90% of the fishing guides are running Suzuki's! I would say they know more about motor qualities than anyone.

Saw a Suzuki 150 on a smaller bay boat at a local marina...it was super quiet.

The sound or the lack of sound is what you want and as far as the noise going into gear is most likely your idle is a hair to high .

Here's my two cents, for what it's worth. First, I'm a Merc fan -- although I've never owned one. I like to buy 'Made In America' whenever possible. Also -- I am NOT a mechanic and barely even mechanically inclined, just another Joe-schmo with an opinion, and limited knowledge. I've owned four boats (all used), but will only mention the current and previous ones since we're talking about Yammis and Zukes. PREVIOUS BOAT: I bought a 2009 NauticStar 2200 TE bay boat w/ a Yamaha F250 3.4L in 2012 with, just shy of, 200 hrs on it. That Yamaha motor started every, single time without fail, and NEVER left me stranded due to Yamaha-related mechanical issues. The ONLY problems I had with that motor were self-inflicted. I hit some rocks, at speed, down in the Keys and blew the lower unit wide open. Gears were hanging out the side and prop was bent all to hell. Another time I was too shallow for too long and sucked so much mud it stopped peeing and I had to limp back to the dock. Neither of those were the fault of Yamaha, but mine. I always did my own preventative maintenance on it, and that motor ran flawlessly up until I recently sold it to my son w/ almost 500 hrs on it. CURRENT BOAT: Recently bought a 2014 26' Twin Vee (Late August 2023) center console w/ twin Suzuki 140's (2012 models), with about 330 hrs on them. The port engine's No. 1 cylinder has low compression and that motor shakes really bad at idle. My mechanic had me try to run some Mercury fuel additive through it to see if it was from [low speed trolling] carbon build-up, but I've run enough fresh fuel w/ additive through it (at speed) and it didn't make a difference. I'm taking it back in after Memorial Day because I think he's going to have to do some internal work. If anyone has any, I'm open to suggestions before I take it in. My question is this...... Why is my Suzuki experiencing compression problems with only 330 hrs? Is this normal ? Anyone else have these same problems ??

Good video. The only reason why I went with a Suzuki when we bought a boat is because I live in Mercury and Yamaha country...that's all you see here. Actually all three (Merc Yamaha Suzuki) are great. I hear good things from owners all the time. Honda doesn't seem to be a big player in outboards anymore like they use to.

My 200 E-TEC is good on fuel but 90 percent of my running is at cruse speed which is 3500 rpm but you go over that all day yes it will chug the fuel down .

Feb 21 i bought a new suzi 115. 12.5 k out the door. JP Motorsports, Chula Vista, Ca. The Yamaha quote was 18.5 k.

SIM Yamaha is the best. I owned an F150 several years ago and he was all about customer satisfaction!!!!!

I’m replacing my Suzuki DF150, (which I bought 2nd hand), due to corrosion. I see some talk about Yamaha being less susceptible to corrosion. Pls comment on how Yamaha’s technology helps prevent corrosion. Pls also comment if Suzuki have dealt with this issue in their latest models (2023/4), thank you

Fuel consumption isn't really apples to apples. Your E-Tec is a V6 2.6l block, the Suzuki is a inline 4 2.0l block. More comparable would be the E-Tec 115HO V4 1.7l motor. Suzuki has always run a lower gear ratio, the 115 has a gear ratio of 2.59:1, your E-tec is 1.86:1 and the Yamaha 115 is 2.15:1. That Suzuki lower gear ratio impacts the top end but is pretty effective at turning larger propellers which is great for slower speeds. For your application I would look at the Suzuki 140, same weight and shouldn't be priced much higher than the 115. That being said, I am in a bit of the same situation. I have a 2016 Boston Whaler 210 Montauk with a 2016 Evinrude E-TEC 200HP HO. I am in SWFL and just can't get any service in my area on the E-TEC. My E-TEC needs about a $5k of work, including a new fuel pump/reservoir. So, I've been thinking about repowering. I've been looking at the Yamaha and Suzuki 200 inline 4 and also the Mercury FourStroke 200 V6. Performance wise the Mercury V6 will be the closest... but reliability is my biggest concern. All around value the Suzuki is very hard to beat.

The Merc pro xs 115 is so dang appealing to me but I question the reliability, especially in salt water.

Three years ago I boufgt a Yamaha F70 because of the weight. The F70 weighs the same as the Suzuki DF 60.

There seems to be a pretty big misconception that a Suzuki timing chain is far superior to a Yamaha timing belt. It isn't. I prefer timing chains on cars but these aren't car engines. A Yamaha timing belt will last at least 1000hrs before needing replacement and its very easy and relatively inexpensive to replace one. If a timing chain or associated components needs replaced it is a much tougher and expensive job. If the cylinder head has to come off it is more complicated with a chain. Suzukis also seem to corrode a lot worse than Yamahas in identical conditions. Resale value can't be underestimated- A Yamaha is ALWAYS worth more used and is easier to sell than a Suzuki. Both are good, but so are Honda and Tohatsu

How can you compare The Etec 150 to a 115 of any brand?

Hello from Finland! I have df 175 apx, 2018... Over 700 hours now, and working great. I have had many outboard in 30 years, and i have to say Suzuki is best option in my opinion. Better gear shifting an fuel economy vs other brands. Only thing what i don`t like my 175 is that there is no neutral lock in remote control unit, and you have to be carefully when putting shift to the neutral position. Good and cheap propeller option for these 150 and bigger is SOLAS AMITA 3-e-plus, 15,3*23 is mine and works really well.

Yamahas corrosion painting process came from Mercury. They have been doing this for many years. You get what you pay for.

All outboards are so superior to what they were not many years ago that I think you just pick the one with the best local dealer/service network.

These days all major brands make reliable fuel efficient engines but most people overlook corrosion resistance when deciding and in this area I think Suzuki may be the worst.

Why not go with the Suzuki 140 same block as the 115

Have you considered the 115 SS Suzuki? Just put one on a pontoon boat and my customer got 7 more MPH out of his old bone of a boat we replaced an old sloppy max with a dead cylinder

Good video, the last year Evinrude was building engines they made a 150 hp 3 cylinder G2. All though not many were built these motors are fantastic, and would have performed great on your skiff. Fast, light weight, great fuel mileage, No maintenance for 5 years. But unfortunately Evinrude is no longer a choice.

I’ve been working on outboards for some time now have to say Yamaha is the best we had a bit of problems with oil filters blowing and Suzuki blocks corroding out completely bit I will say They do make a really good engine

get what ever the cheapest is, youre probably never gonna use the warranty, and who cares about fuel efficiency if youre not a off shore boat. i have a f90 yamaha 2018 and zero issues, my warranty expires at the end of 2024 ,mine had extende warranty not the basic 3 year. i also have a friend with a 2019 suzuki 115 and the only issue he had was corrosion i n the fuel pump , from water in the tank , other than that no issues with it

suzuki are a lot lot better due to the fact that their 9.9b and above are EFI and light, their 15hp is EFI and 44kg, yet yamaha same hp are 51kg and carbd, yamaha are heavy engines and use old tech, stay away from yamaha
