My first electronic keyboard was a PSR-E303 way back in 2009. And now, just like back then, the PSR-E3X3 series is still by far the best choice in the price range. People were raving about the CTX series and their new AIX sound source, but I played one and to my ears it sounded just like the old AIR one. And above all, the Casio feels like a toy, while the Yamaha is a tank. By the way, I still have the E303 and it works just like when it was new!

I wish ALL keyboard manufacturers would do that -- label the ports on top, toward the back of the panel. I always have to get a flashlight so I can see them because it is so dark back there. I'm thinking about getting some silver paint and a tiny brush so I can see at least see the raised words back there. Maybe it would deface the keyboard a bit, but maybe a tiny mark or symbol on top of the panel would make finding the port easier from the front..

Both good ideas I think. Or maybe fluorescent stickers. Still, all of this could be averted if they'd design it right in the first place!

Hi, this is a cool and useful review for what seems to be a great beginner keyboard and then some. 😎 A few remarks: 1) with so many sounds features onboard, 9 reg slots are a bit sparse to say the least. 2) The Yamaha SoundController app will add a virtual pitchbend and mod wheel to this keyboard, among other features. For that you’ll need an iPhone, IPad or iPod Touch and the Camera Connection Kit. 3) This two tracks MIDI recorder is just ridiculous. So with the integrated digital audio interface (!), it is probably better to record audio tracks on Audacity or another free DAW. Could you consider show the new arpeggios and the styles which were not in the PSR E363 or which have been improved by the addition of the DSPs? After all this thing is an arranger keyboard, right?... 🎃
@gearfacts
@gearfacts 3 жыл бұрын
Hmm well there are something like 25 new styles, and some of the old ones have been re-jigged. And some are disappointingly identical. I'll look into it. The other feature I _should_ look at - even though I don't want to because I anticipate disappointment - is the 3 months of free access to Yamaha's online learning system ....groan....

I hear you, Dawn. I should do more with computers. I recently learned that Cakewalk is now completely free. So there it sits on my computer. Installed, operational, and lonely! I like Audacity because of its utter simplicity but of course the trade-off is that it's quite limited and inflexible. Big thanks to the people who put it together and continue to develop it though!

Sadly one of the cost cutting tricks that many Keyboard makers use is the same sound, different EFFECTS trick or ever slight changes to the same base tone with older keyboards. Casio is guilty of that. Yamaha FM synths and older Casio phase distortion based keyboards had actual different tones per preset since they were NOT sample based. The sound articulation? Looks like a simple on off button for modulation instead of using an actual mod wheel or joystick lol! I would source an old Yamaha DX7 aftertouch strip, and install it under the keys and wire it to the PEDAL input so you can have an assignable AFTER TOUCH to that keyboard. Simple circuit bends like that can really improve the playing experience! This keyboard sounds very nice and the keys are the newer style so it is worth it I say!

h e l p - I work with kids who know absolutely nothing about music. So to introduce them to how music works, I'm looking for the keyboard in which one can not only set the rhythm, intro and exit but also the piano or main sound will play a whole chord when one pushes only one key with their left hand. I had a keyboard in the past that did this and kids could be playing songs in just 10 minutes because I printed out the song words with the keys when changed above each word, like Amazing Grace played with only C, F, and G for them. They loved it. I no longer have that keyboard. Does this keyboard have this one finger full chord ability? If so I shall buy one. Do you have a video demonstrating this? Thanks.
@gearfacts
@gearfacts 2 ай бұрын
Most all keyboards have that feature these days, including the PSR-E373 as shown in this video. The method you describe is activated by pressing the accompaniment button. In Casio keyboards it’s called “Single finger mode”

Very helpful demo as ever, thanks. I'm a bit concerned by the comment that the piano sustains very strangely. A sustain function is one of the main things I'm looking for in a new keyboard. The e373 seems excellent in most regards but should this make me think twice about it? Very grateful for your thoughts.
@gearfacts
@gearfacts 3 жыл бұрын
That's right, it was weird because it seemed to sustain infinitely, unlike a real piano. It's a perfectly nice piano sound, sure, but it's not quite true to the real thing and that may bother some people. Unless perhaps there's some setting in the keyboard that can be altered...I think I'm pretty good at diagnosing that kind f thing these days though!

Help. I watched this for one reason .... to find out how to use the smart chord option with one finger to get a whole chord and to add the rhythm at the same time. I need this option to teach beginners how to play songs and to help them understand chord grouping. I want to make a children's church amateur band for fun, with easy instruments. Do you have this information on another video?
@gearfacts
@gearfacts 3 ай бұрын
It's been a while since I made this video so it's hard to remember, but it sounds like you're referring to the "Accomp" button (near the rhythm start/stop buttons). When this is on and a beat is playing, the user can create chords with just one key pressed on the bottom third of the keyboard. Hope that helps :)

@gearfacts
@gearfacts 3 жыл бұрын
@@maunghtinaung1606 well, piano teachers always say it's essential to start with fully weighted piano keys. Personally though I see them as different instruments for different types of music. Like cow's milk and soy milk (haha) they're different things entirely, not substitutes for each other. Not a great analogy, I know, but you get the idea! So if you're serious about playing in the classic piano style then I guess it makes sense to start with a cheap hammer-action piano keyboard rather than a 'synth' keyboard. But if you're looking for fast, pleasing results and just want to have some fun I think there's nothing wrong with ordinary plastic keys. Final advice from me: Buy the instrument that makes you SMILE!

Can you get a ballpark/hockey organ sound out of this keyboard. I want to play at my son's little league games. I need to sound like the Wrigley Field Organ. Jeff

@gearfacts 3 жыл бұрын
Yep you sure can. You can even put 2 layers of booming reverb on it make it sound more 'ballparky'

@@gearfacts Thx. Could you demo some of that for me in a video, beforebI order one off ofvAmazon? Also I'm curious if it could do justice for Phantom of the Opera? Check out KZfaq Phantom of the Opera - Xavier Venus Performance 9byears ago in the Theatervin Canada. I think his slow measured version is the best. He doesn't rush it and it really adds to the suspence. Thanks again. Jeff

Hi. Great sounds on both the new yamaha psr e373 and the casio ctx5000. Which is the better out of these please? I'm not sure which would be best buy? Thank you. 👍

The CTx5000 has much better sounds, but it'll cost twice as much. It all depends on your budget.
