Yamaha PW50 throttle cable replacement

This video should help you replace the throttle cable on your PW50. This worked for me, but I am NOT an expert and you should use info at own risk.
PLEASE support local dealers, but if you are unable to get to a dealer, amazon links are below. I do get a small slice of Amazon purchases. The parts I ordered (Yamaha OEM):

Thanks for the post Roth. It is a good reminder for anyone watching this. Yes, I have been premixing. I would have left it if were up to me, but that's how it was when I got it.

Literally the most over engineered components on any bike since 1980! I found transmission rebuilds easier than working on this bike.

Thank you! This helped a lot and saved me a lot of time figuring it out myself. and by the way, blocking off the oil pump means you need to premix your gas. Hopefully you are aware of that.

Thanks for the instruction and the part numbers. Our 5yo son and I are rebuilding an old pw50 right now. I ordered the part numbers you listed in the description, but found the cap in your list is either incorrect or a typo. I received a small black cap that I have no use for. The white tube you show in the video, where both cables come together and slide inside, wasn't in your list. The part number for the white tube is 4U12626100 Thanks a lot for taking the time to help us all out, it's really appreciated.

I feel your pain, I just changed the throttle cables on my buddies bike and what a stupid design that throttle cable system is!!! You would think Yamaha could do better than that right. It seems like a lot of people bypass the oil injection system I guess it fails and blows up engines. I don't even know if this one works but I guess we'll find out, lol. Thanks for the video man mine still has the oil pump so I guess I'll find another video too bad they couldn't just made an easy disconnect Where it splits

The oil pump doesn't go through the top of these carbs... that is the throttle to move the slide up and down in the carb and the other one is the choke! There is or should be 2 different lines going into the side of the carb, 1 is fuel, the other is oil. My new carb doesn't have the oil hookup and it is just the throttle line to the carb. The check is a small lever right on my new carb. The stock or OEM carbs for the PW50 and QT50 have the split line through the top of the carb for throttle and choke and fuel line hook ups on the side of the carb for gas and fuel! I hope this helps you guys.

K, well I'm not 100% on the oil line... I took my oil pump out... but I do know that split line is the throttle and choke!! I think the other part is right too... but don't take my word for that one. I'm still learning myslef here lol

There's no oil pump cable, there's a CHOKE an throttle cable that goes in the carb

It is called "Yamaha, cable, pump."

Mr. Mehoff is correct, thats the choke cable. Notice how it moved if you pull the choke.

Throttle cable and choke go in through the top of the carb on that... it did on my QT50 too but i switched to a different carb with one line (instead of the line that splits in 2) and the choke is now a pull over on my choke.

There is a oil pump cable. I just did the block off on my daughters. I got rid of that cable. I had to take the cable out of the oil injection to take it off to do the block off.

Our cable broke right after the small cable lock stop thing. So my question is , can’t you just replace the main throttle cable? In my case I don’t have to replace all those other cables right?

I believe it comes as an assembly with both cables. I would have to check the video again.

If your throttle cable gets replaced so does the choke line. The throttle line splits into 2 going into the carb. One for throttle and the other is your choke cable. You can buy a different style carb if you want the choke line out. Then you run a single cable there and the check will be a button on your new carb. That's what I know anyway.
