This tutorial was created for the Collegedale SDA Church but is for anybody wanting basic training on the QL5. It is similar enough to also help QL1 users.

This saved me like you wouldn’t believe. Tragically, the sound designer for the show I’m on sadly passed before we could even run through tech. He ran me through the basics a month ago, but man… l appreciate the video

The thing you call "bell" curve is actually a shelf. The thing you called a "Shelf" curve is actually a Low Pass Filter.

Regarding your EQ comments with the no "Q" on low and high sections ...if you want to activate the Q settings for the low and High, just tap the shelving icon so that it's not "white" and is that dull grey colour and BINGO!

Thanks a lot for this v good review of the console ql5, actually it’s the best that i find cover the basics from all that i find and it’s simple and cover the details especially for beginner like me, and i hope to lunch another episode that cover the setup and configuration of whole stuff and how the inputs and outputs especially the DVS “Dante virtual sound card” and accessories and every tools that maybe you see that you see it ll be useful for us thanks again for this amazing review

Very good its explanation, but in the Part of EQ missed a small point, the Shelf filter can be disabled and use bandwidth on both frequencies (low and high)

"The on off is different than most boards...." Yea, I guess so. In fact different from any other board I have ever seen..... I got a chance to mess with one of these boards today, and that was the main reason we were unable to get it working.. Some times, the smallest things.......

On our church's old Yamaha LS9 board, there was a mute button at the bottom of the master fader to mute the whole board. How is that accomplished on the QL5?

2:47 the A gain is called analog gain in their higher end Rivage mixers Because they have analog gain and digital gain ...

Thank you for sharing. I'm about to get a ql1 and I would like to know about multitrack recording. Currently Nuendo Live comes with it. However, I wonder if it is possible to record with other DAWs preferably Logic Pro. Also, can we add tracks in Nuendo live other than the recorded ones and feed the multi tracks back onto the desk? The idea is that we would like to playback the backing tracks (multi tracks ) individually on the desk for the band to play on top of them live. Thank you in advance :)

Depending on how many tracks you would like to record, Dante cards (16 channels each) can be installed and routed to a computer running any DAW you wish. The computer will see Dante as a soundcard and you route channels inside the software. Pretty easy way to go about it.

Cloud i ask you a question, i owned ql1 and as you know it’s sixteen track but they mentions on the owners manual it’s 32 channel and as i know each track expressed as a single channel so i confused and i don’t understand for what 32 channel and who Can I use the rest channel of sixteen (17-32) thanks

You can use the channels for DANTE inputs, for example.

Just put the mic through a regular channel and add it to a mix that only they're receiving, pre-fader.

if you just press on the shelf knob on the low/high, doesn't it become a normal parametric eq??? you only switch between shelf and low pass... thats why it doesn't work. otherwise its a very expensive console for the things it can do. but i think im right here ;)

I kept yelling at the screen for him to not highlight either shelf or low pass button. That is how you get full parametric on the high and lows, just like the mids. I hope he sees this and can use the eq to it's full potential.

Moreover. The lector here calls shelf mode as "bell" and low/high pass modes as "shelf" which is not correct. And yep, you may switch off both pass and shelf and you'll get full parametric bell with Q awailable. I just hate cheap digital desks that can't do that. But QL isn't cheap. It's actually CL with less controls and less busses.
