ninja 400s feel slightly more plastic to me they undeniably outperform the R3 but they are both beginner bikes and nearly everybody ive asked prefered the look of my 2015 R3 also R3 has a softer seat

I'm currently debating between the new 19' R3 and the 19' Ninja 400. Looking to ride track and commute. Only thing that I wish the Kawasaki had was inverted forks but this video shows that's still no problem for the bike to perform great. Being that I work for a Kawasaki dealer it's hard to turn down the 400 when I can get it a little above cost. 🙃

Haha yeah man, definitely jump on it if you got a good deal out of 400. Back in the day when 250s were the king of beginner bikes and "small bikes racing", they are hot on racing and whatnot. Now that 300s are the norm, 250 race grids are dying and less people ride 250 on the streets. Who knows, maybe in a few years 400s will be way more popular and relevant than 300s @@rellot007

Gen 1, but, with the suspension mod I did, the gen 1 R3 is as good as any gen2 -- since gen2 didn’t really update muh things significantly other than suspension...

No doubt, Ninja 400 has basically same weight, as good or better chassis, more power, so on a bigger track it will definitely show more differences.

I mean the difference is very small. Obviously 400 has a little more power so you can go at highway speeds easier. But both are great street bikes

While I love Yamaha as my no 1 brand, the Ninja 400 had a bit more legs and felt more comfortable to me for a bit exploring and light touring. So I bought a second hand 2018 Ninja 400.

It depends highly on race organization rules. E.g. in MotoAmerica, rules had to be changed to make sure R3’s compete with Ninja400’s -- e.g. limiting RPM of the Ninja, or allowing more modifications on the R3; reason being Ninja400 is just a bigger displacement bike, of course it has more potential. In my club racing, Ninja400 races in 500 supersport, R3 races in 350 supersport, since they are just different size bikes, would be unfair to compete together if same rules apply. So again, depends on what you define as rules in your csbk ;)

@@leitian7328320 lbs min and 42 hp max for r3 and ninja 400 but ninja is limited to 10k rpm. Cbr 500 goes into same group with 360 lbs min and 45 hp max.. So am lost in which to pick.

Haha, if your race organization really dyno each bike -- well then it’s different lol. It probably would come down to which bike you can get a good deal / sponsorship/ support. E.g. in my area (socal) racing R3 is very economical since parts come by easily
