It's my understanding that the HDMI - Out port on the Yamaha RX-V3800 is NOT ARC compatible. The technology was not around when this receiver was produced, nor have any firmware upgrades converted the connection to ARC compatibility. Since the RX-V2700 is older than the RX-V3800, this would confirm the 2700 HDMI-Out port is also NOT ARC compatible, as the narrator suggests..

A record player or a turntable plugs into the phono input on the back of the receiver plugging other devices into the phono input however could potentially blow your speakers though

Pre out is for additional amps as well. You can take the load off of your receiver and just use it as a controller. It’s easy to build a powerful system by using multiple amps this way. With a 7.1 system you can have an inexpensive amps for your back speakers and another one for your front speakers. Maybe use the receiver for the center channel. This way you don’t overload your expensive receiver.

Nice video, but with a small correction. Those little black, round sockets, with 4 pins in them are S-Video, not S-VHS, which is something else. It's true that you find those plugs mostly in S-VHS machines, but the name is S-Video.

Hi, I just replaced two RX-V377 Yamaha Receiver/Amps and have tested and confirmed the problem in both cases is the HMDI cards. While using one of the bad HDMI cards neither of the four units will power up. Using a good HDMI card and all four units work perfectly. Notice, "power up" is the issue. The power supplies to both "suspect units" tested perfectly. From Yamaha, a new HMDI card is $169 and I ONLY paid $80 for the two complete units on ebay. Here is my thinking: 1. The "protection" circuits on the HMDI cards are not allowing the power supply to engage. 2. The vendors who sold me the replacement (Used) units likely had the same problem (Would not power up due to "a turned off HMDI unit" by the protection circuit). 3. Using a magnifing glass and good light, all four HDMI cards look exactly the same. QUESTIONS: a. How can I find a vendor/repair-place to repair the two inoperative HDMI cards? b. How can I sell the two good amps with inoperative HDMI cards for $40 each plus $12 freight? c. What other suggestions? I can use the two inoperative units if the HDMI boards are repaired. I appreciate. Jim.clayton at Claytonbank d--com. Thanks!

But the subwoofer pre out has a low pass filter built into it which makes it to where any amplifier hooked up to it will only receive low frequencies so therefore you can only hook subwoofers up to the subwoofer pre out speakers that can't handle the low frequencies will blow if they are hooked up to the subwoofer pre out speaker pre outs don't have a low pass filter in them though only the subwoofer pre out has a low pass filter

Just curious about connecting the out wires to your speakers. What happens if you have speakers who's RMS rating is different such as a mid range driver who's RMS rating is 50 watts and a tweeter who's RMS rating is 25 watts. How does that affect the wiring of the receiver or does it? I'm nervous about blowing a speaker when turning the volume up significantly. Any help you can give would be much appreciated! Thanks

Yeah, I am pretty sure this particular model doesn't support arc. However there are settings in your tv sound output that should be verified. You have to enable arc on your tv and turn on arc on the receiver with the hdmi output connected same cable. I would think it should also work in one of the hdmi inputs on the av receiver as long as arc is enabled from the tv but it may not.

@robertmekemson12

The work around which is not optimal, is an ARC hdmi audio extractor, by Tendak (probably other designs as well.), hdmi arc in to adapter from tv, then optical spdif or digital coax rca line to your av receiver. This will work. You may have to adjust settings in your tv sound (arc enabled) as well as pcm or other. Make sure hdmi cable is 2.0 or arc two way compatible (Mediabridge makes great cables). You could also as a last resort (If your TV has a headphone jack) use 3.5mm mini jack to RCA stereo cable adapter (a 90° 3.5mm miniplug would work best) into the receiver. (Probably will not pass 5.1 surround.) but you will have better audio using your av receiver. I was hoping as stated in discussions below that Yamaha would have a firmware update for this receiver to correct for ARC and some of the XM bugs, but they moved on. The RX-V2700 is a beast of a receiver, really love it but now it is old tech.

@@Shafy7 Well, not knowing your TV and the setup I can give you a couple of ideas that may work for the ARC adapter. Make sure your tv is recognizing the adapter, it should show in the device section or as an input source. Also, check via your headphones if there is audio getting to the adapter. If none, cycle the power to tv/adapter. I actually reset my tv sound settings (Which is an older Samsung). Not sure what to do if those don't work other than the following options. I am sorry for this and sometimes these electronic gizmos only work in certain configurations and with newer tvs. If you are not using your digital optical out from your tv plug that into your AV receiver. If it is already being utilized your 2nd to last resort, get a powered spdif/toslink splitter, this will allow you to send the digital optical signal to your receiver and your sound bar. (I actually had this configuration for many years before getting the ARC adapter.) Only drawback is that your sound bar may not go into standby unless you manually turn it off if you have one connected. Last resort (If your TV has a headphone jack) use 3.5mm mini jack to RCA stereo cable adapter (a 90° 3.5mm miniplug would work best) into the receiver as I stated above. This is about all I can recommend. I am sorry if you don't get the ARC to work but the last two are not optimal but options. What a pain huh?

I would expect the TV's ARC to go into HDMI IN1,IN2,IN3 where the TV is driving both audio and Video and no display signal is needed to pass through the receiver. All Audio comes from TV through on receiver's processing/amplification with variable out driving the volume via the tv. The HDMI OUT would display video only as the receiver is carrying the Audio duties and presuming they are output via the speakers connected to the receiver. If you want the TV to play processed audio through the on board tv speakers (Cause you must hate quality audio lol) then I assumed you would send it to the TV sound in via (Digital Out 8 MD/Tape or 9 CD-R) or more likely paring an analog RCA out to a video input where HDMI is video IN and the audio arrives via another connection type (not HDMI) or some other analogue connection. HDMI ARC would allow audio to come from the TV or to The TV via the HDMI Out connection. Where video switching on the Receiver or the TV would not be necesary you would stay on the HDMI ARC Channel. Do I have that right?
