In this episode, I am doing a ride review on Yamaha's 2017 SCR950. This is a new purchase with only 2,267 miles. This bike is factory stock with the addition of a battery tender lead.
In 2017 Yamaha introduced the SCR950 as a retro-styled, scrambler-type motorcycle based on the popular Bolt 950. Aside from the beautiful "flat tracker" styling, the SCR got knobby tires, dirt bike style handlebar, longer travel suspension, a taller seat height with a long, flat, vintage-style seat and a new rear sub frame. The 950cc motor remains the same and has useable power throughout the rpm range. As with the original "scrambler" motorcycles of the mid 1970's, the SCR950 is still a street bike that you can ride on the occasional gravel road - not a dedicated off-roader with lights! On-road handling is great, power output is accessible with plenty of torque, long haul comfort is only hampered by a somewhat narrow and firm seat, and the brakes decent.
I love the flexibility of the UJMs. If you are looking for a modern, retro-styled bike that is friendly and easy going yet fun to push a bit in the corners, the SCR950 may be the bike for you. I ride vintage bikes often and the SCR950 captures the "look" and "feel" of a vintage machine quite well!
