Here's my initial thoughts of the Yamaha STAGEPAS 1K. I've used it at one event as a side fill, I've sang a lot of karaoke through it and I've listened to a lot of music through it. So I'm not quite ready for a full review until I get it out at more events but I'm ready to give my initial thoughts.

To boost mid range, turn the knob to “Club” and lower the bass on each channel all the way, and adjust it up as needed. The sound fills the room better.

The dolly plates for these are for hotel and other in-house AV. They keep everything on wheels so any tech can just grab and go.

I'm an acoustic/vocal artist and I've used this at several gigs, some of them have been outside. It's always had enough volume for me. Nice clarity, and I think the mids sound great for what I do. You can get lots more volume out of it with the use of an outboard mixer (I've just been using a small Yamaha 4 channel I got for around $150).

Using a separate mixer in the stereo channel gives you a lot more volume. I’ve got one 1K & get plenty out of it with the mixing desk, I don’t use the other 3 channels.

How do you do this? I’m trying to expand the sound of my stage pas 1k I feel like the mids get lost and you can only go trebly or bassy with the EQ on the unit.

What about a review of the Mackie Thump Go...especially on the effectiveness of the feedback suppression..maybe even comparing to other similar attempts to suppress feedback..am I asking too much? 🙂.

Hey, I believe you are spot on with the evaluation of these speakers. However, I’m nearly 59 now and simply had to get away from my huge and heavy passive speakers with separate amps. I have two of these each linked out to two harbingers V218’s and was impressed enough that I’m doubling down and getting another set for a left/right set up for my band. I also bought the Mackie DL32s mixer to lighten the load even more. With two per side the SPL will be enough for what I’m doing even though I heard these were not designed to run side by side I’m doing it anyway. lol. So, 4 of these on top of 4 subs is where I’m going. I eq’d with pink noise with the subs and it really sounded great. Thanks for your insight man! Yeah, there is a little gap missing but these will mainly be for vocals and drums primarily. The set up time will be 1/10th from what I use to do. Keep up the good work friend!

Amazing review! You have any advice for two vocals and classic/acoustic guitar (played with looper)? We wanna play in bars, caffee yards and probably smaller weddings. We were thinking abou Bose L1 pro8, but not sure…market has to offer more nowdays. How about LD Maui 28? Worth cheching?

We used one of these at a gig recently (5 piece band) for vocals and keyboard only. We were sceptical but you know what, it did the job very well. Guitars were using backline amps and this was plenty loud enough for 2x vocals and a keyboard going through it. Ok, the venue wasn't packed (60-70 people at least) and the sound was fine out of one of these.

Oh yeah I could see it working very well for that setup. I'll have to do a new video soon. I still have my original two Stagepas 1K's and I also bought the new Stagepas 1K MKII's. The new variants are a nice upgrade. A little smoother sounding when you push them and a bit more volume output.

Hi love your review on the Stagepas 1k, I had 2 and I'll be totally honest here, your right on what your saying, I say had the yamaha 1k's , I did like them, but 119Db is not enough for a band situation, they are perfect for 1 man and his guitar, I did have keyboards going through the 1k's it drove them into red, and as you said when your venue gets really packed and your driving up the volume they just can't handle it, I even put them on beer crates to get the speaker above peoples heads, dj, I have to say really impressed me, again for small venues, yes they really really do shine with clarity on Guitar and I even heard sounds coming from the keyboards the I never heard on my more high range pa, It performs even better again when connected to your own dry desk, more control also adding a monitor you are able to have the separate mix to your own liking, connected monitor to the 1k itself, you have no separate mix capability, Stagepas 1k is a nice system but more suited to just one man but definitely not driving your keyboards through, and the one knob Eq hmmm! for that reason I sold on, and looking now for something more powerful and has everything that's needed to put on a great performance but 119 DB, no not for me, very well built yes but it could have been better..

Add a sub or two. You don't need 130db because the people will leave, what you want is big ass bass!

@@madness8556 I know it's been a while, but in the end I went for the new RCF 935A speakers and super super super, and said I will get 18 inch subs, but for ease of weight and arsing around with heavy cabs I went for the behringer 1500XP's and at venues I'm told jesus there s a thumping bass sound can I turn them down, so a few nights with over 150 to 200 people I just keep them at the 9-0-clock volume level, and sometimes that's even too loud, Column arrays I will be very slow to buy again.

@@nigel8649 Nigel your completely right, people did leave, and you know funny thing is I would be one of those people also to leave, but when your on stage behind the speakers it's a different story wondering are you loud enough, but yes I have learned loud is certainly not always better, you'll see here within my replies I went for RCF 935a series and sub I decided on cheap and cheerful behringer but of late I learned Behringer no longer install cheap cheapy parts, not sure who bought over behringer but its still holds its badge but not the parts, I was really surprised at the thump the B1500xp's pumped out 2 of them for just around €1000 mabey a little extra, but well well worthed,

Thanks for the thorough review! I'm looking to get a couple of speakers with this form factor [heavy woofer on floor, light tweeters on top for easy setup by weaklings] for DJ applications. The built-in mixer would be irrelevant since DJs use external mixers. I've used 2 x L1 Pro8 for a year and they sound great, but not quite enough SPL or low end for the slightly larger venues we'll be occupying. The Bose L1 Pro16 is the natural upgrade, and they do indeed sound excellent, but the build quality is kinda crummy (cheap plastic, wobbly column). The Pro8 has the same build quality, but because it's smaller it's much less of an issue. Does the EV Evolve 50 sound good in this context? Or something else?
@TheAngrySoundTech
@TheAngrySoundTech Жыл бұрын
I know a lot of people that own and love the Evolve 50's. I wouldn't be surprised if it's not the number 1 selling column array speaker. Overall it's a good speaker and was designed with the mobile DJ in mind. I've used the 50's a few times. I owned the 30M's as well. I think you'd be happy with the Evolves for mobile DJ applications. Interestingly I really wanted to get the Pro8's and Pro16's but the wobble of the Pro16 kept me away. Also Bose is one brand I can't get deals on which is kind of funny because one of my buddies is the local Bose artist and they just send him whatever he wants to use for free. lol

Nice video Brian. Next question… I current run the DZR 15. Which is the better buy the DZR 10 or the DXR 10. Inputs aren’t important to me, I run ever gig with a Mackie mixer. I’m looking for something that can handle the 100 person and under events, but also has a high SPL to help me when I have a prom. The kids scream much lol.
@TheAngrySoundTech
@TheAngrySoundTech 2 жыл бұрын
I'd say volume wise you'd be fine with the DZR10 or DXR10. But... I wouldn't use my DXR10MKII's for 100 people without a subwoofer. They really need at least a 15" sub if you want a good full sound. I have never used the DZR10's but it looks like they hit about 10hz lower so they might be fine without a sub.

Yamaha should introduce a next generation Stagepass 2K model with increased SPL to 130db and an extra mic input for 4 mic inputs. It also needs a proper eq and dynamics per channel like the EV Evolve 30M or JBL PRX ONE. Yamaha needs to stay competitive as they've got a lot of competition in the portable line array PA system market from the likes of EV, Bose, LD Systems, Mackie, Turbosound etc.

100% agree! I would just add that I would like a simple mode with knobs on the unit like what they have now and then have the advanced mode be tablet based. That way i could still use it with my rental customers.

@@TheAngrySoundTech I seriously considered buying a pair of Stagepass 1Ks. I bought a pair of Evolve 30Ms instead because they offered more for a very similar price whilst being more compact, better looking (especially in white) and louder at 123db. I do like how a pair of Stagepass 1Ks can be used as a larger mono system with double the inputs which you can't do easily with a pair of Evolve 30Ms unless you do some clever connecting via their XLR aux out. Saying that, if I require more than 4 mic inputs, I'll simply connect up my Mackie or Behringer mixer. The Evolve 30M mixer is superior to the Stagepass 1K and I'm surprised that Yamaha hasn't released something like a Stagepass 2K to compete with the likes of the Evolve 50M, RCF Jmix8 and JBL PRX ONE.

@@TheAngrySoundTech I notice here in Australia that nobody is using the Stagepass 1K but everyone is using EV Evolves, Bose L1 etc etc. I know that this sounds very shallow, but I also found the Stagepass 1K to be quite ugly compared to the Evolves and Mauis!😬 That certainly wouldn't have put me off buying them if they had the functionality and compact footprint of the Evolve 30M.

My daughter is a singer using the stagepass 600 bt to backing tracks what would you recommend for the next step up ie doing 2-300 people I was recommended this but now I’m unsure as you said right rig for the gig
@TheAngrySoundTech
@TheAngrySoundTech 2 жыл бұрын
You can add a subwoofer to your 600BT system to step up the audio a bit. But if you want to go straight to a new system... I would skip the DBR series and go to the DXR series of Yamaha speakers. Either the DXR12MKII or the DXR15MKII. You'll be much happier with the higher quality compression driver. Now for mixers I typically like the Mackie ProFX12v3 but if you want to stick with Yamaha you could get the MG12XU which I also own. The Yamaha mixer is good I just prefer the Mackie. I wouldn't get a column array. There tends to be too many feedback issues and sound quality is not on par with a standard point source system.
