YAMAHA VIRAGO DIY 2-1 INTAKE MANIFOLD W/ CARBURETOR UNDER $100 is a video on a Virago, I picked up for $250 in N.J. I brought it home and now Im going to see if i can get it up and running. This is a how to, step by step tutorial on how i went about making a 2 into 1 intake manifold for this motorcycle. This should work on any year virago. check it out and see if and or how it runs with this DIY set up. As always ride safe people, and live life behind bars.

That's cool I have a 97 750 so that will work?? Or different jettings

Sorry so long getting back to you thanks for checking out the channel and watching the video yes I think this carburetor would work for the 750 it is also the same carburetor they use on the 883 not much of a difference in size my possibly have to lean it out a little but I don't think you would have to change the jetting maybe just back off the fuel and air mixture screw a quarter of a turn or so and keep an eye on the plugs to see how they're looking ride safe my friend

Interesting idea. I'm tempted to try it on my viragos. Real question is won't the engine heat melt the pvc?

Hey, I want to welcome you to the channel. thanks for checking out the video, please if you haven't done so already, subscribe and share it with your friends. And for an answer to your question no the air coming through the Venturi on a carburetor is the same temperature as it is outside, and it is moving through the carburetor at a very high rate of speed which actually cools the air down even more plus you riding down the road is blowing air on the outside of it so it should stay plenty cool. If it got the hot enough to melt the PVC, it would first melt the rubber on the boots that are attached to the cylinders where the manifold is mounted to. I'm going to make a video of me running it, in the next day or so.I will run it long enough to get it up to operating temperature and dial in the carburetor in. I also have to check and make sure the charging system is working okay so I will be running it for a decent amount of time and it won't be running down the road so stay tuned check out the next video and I will show you that it will be fine with no meltdown thanks again for checking out the Channel I hope this helps answer your question ride safe and live life Behind Bars.

@westcornerscustomcycles Thank you for replying and explaining. I figured the cold air would keep it all from melting while running. My thoughts were more from heat soak after a ride on a hot day and parking it. But like you said, if it was that much of an issue it would melt the carb boots mounted to the engine as well. Regardless I already had bought some 1"1/4 pvc to try this on my xv1100 project since the factory carbs sat with watery gas in the bowls for who knows how long. Look forward to seeing the next videos!

Yeah, like I said stay tuned I'm going to run this for a while, but today was 15° out yesterday was 14° outside here. So it's not going to be like a hot summer day when I'm running it but, it should be okay it'll be in my garage and I'll have the heat on, but it will be a lot cooler than it would be on a hot summer day.

It doesn't look like the intake will meter the mix to each carb properly. Most of the aluminum 2 to 1's have a separator inside to help divvy up the mix. Have you come across any mix issues?

Hey thank you for checking out the channel and watching the video. I haven't had any issues with the running. if you watch the video where I start the bike and run it. It runs just fine, only one cylinder is going to suck the gas and air mixture at a time. The manifold doesn't meter the gas mixture. Whatever cylinder is on the intake stroke will suck whenever gas and air mixture is coming through the manifold. The other cylinder will be on the exhaust stroke. So one will not take from the other I haven't had any issues with the way it runs. I haven't taken it out running it up down the road yet. I plan on having a video by the end of the week with me riding it up and down the road. I'm getting it just about finished you will have to check it out to see how it runs. Thank you again for checking out the channel, hope you like what you see. ride safe live life Behind Bars.

@@westcornerscustomcycles thank you for the response I will definitely consider following your design. It will be neat to see the running and driving. My 82 virago 750 is in dire need of a carb doctor I just can't seem to get it right. I've removed the carbs 8 times to try and get the float level and mix and sync correct. At this point I'm ready for a new solution as it still fails to stay running or run well. Just need a decent replacement for the hitachis. Life of a tinkerer tis but a humbling one.

Yes give it a shot tuning one car with a lot easier than tuning to and trying to get those old hitachi's that are 40 years old and completely worn out to stay and sink is ridiculous I also just picked up an 82 Virago I'm going to be getting into that one soon and I will probably wind up doing the same thing to that one thanks again for watching

I have a 1983 XV500K and want to convert it to single carb. Having trouble getting info on the right carburetor choice. I would appreciate any help you can give me.

I apologizing for being so long getting back to you yes should work fine you just need to use the right size carburetor I would recommend using a carburetor for a 500 cc motorcycle like a carburetor off a 500cc motocross bike single carb setup a car from a bike from a 400 to a 6650 you should be able to use might have to dial into air fuel mixture a little but other than that should work fine

How's the PVC going to hold up to the heat of the engine?
@westcornerscustomcycles
@westcornerscustomcycles 2 ай бұрын
I've ridden it a few times the PVC holds up okay the air coming in through the air cleaner through the Venture in the carburetor is moving about 200 miles an hour so that keeps it cool enough to not melt plus I forgot that hot it would melt the rubber boots that the manifold mounts into that are attached to the cylinder so it stays cool enough I just have to get the carburetor adjusted right it's running a little rich
