A quick note for an addendum to your visor recommendation. There are several companies out there that make bags for the spare visor in case your helmet can't hold both at the same time. The extra visor goes in the bag, the bag strap goes across your shoulder so the shield rests under the opposite armpit and wrapped around the side of your ribs. The bags cost around $15-20 and last pretty much forever. Only caveat is that they are designed for a traditional full-face shield, so shields for dualsport helmets and those weird Icon helmets won't work.

I got a 3 litre camel pack back in 2001, when I was a motorcycle courier in the Brisbane CBD. I still have it today. I had it on at every track day under my jacket/leathers. I still use it when I go camping on the bike or bow hunting. Always with me.

Tinted visor, exactly why I love my Icon Airflite helmet. Came with a clear visor and for a little more you can get a tinted visor AND there's a neat slide down sunglass panel inside the helmet as well. Totally recommend it.
@dennis5806
@dennis5806 11 ай бұрын
i know this comment is 2 years old but of all the reviews ive read about the icon airlite helmet and especially its visors, most were trashing on the poor quality and how fast the tint came off. also a lot of complaints that it didnt really fit well when equipping it on the helmet and warped vision. what was your experience w it ?
@Thatdualsportguy
@Thatdualsportguy 9 ай бұрын
I've had the first gen icon variant for 10 years with the same silver mirrored visor and only way I've lost tint over the years is taking rocks and the occasional tree branch to the face it has a few scratches but they aren't deep and the tint isn't ruined so the negative reviews you came across mightve been a cheap knockoff tint (been there with a different helmet visor cleaned it twice and the tint started peeling off) personally I love icon along with the og variant I also have the airflite the sizing is a bit tight and a long break in period but aside from that they're great helmets..hope this helps

Pro tip: get a sleeve (covering) for your hydration pack hose. I learned this the hard way on a long hike - after 30 min of hiking the first few gulps from the hose were warm.
@back2toxic
@back2toxic Жыл бұрын
You could blow into the hose before you drink. Just enough to get the water from the hose back to the pack. Since you're most likely the only person drinking from it there's no harm done. Might also add a little lemon or lime juice to the water to make it taste a bit better.

Yep agree with ear plugs, I had only been riding for a few years before I noticed a loss of hearing. Luckily I started instantly wearing ear plugs before permanent damage. Also I used to work in a petrol station and the air gauges are not always calibrated enough, so are not 100% accurate. That aside have fun 😃

As stated before, you're actually not supposed to put anything but water into a Camelback or is can become a breeding ground for bacteria and fungi. You're also supposed to clean them out periodically, even the bladders that advertise that they inhibit growth. My source: me. I served in Iraq with the US Army.
@heatherm7646
@heatherm7646 4 жыл бұрын
Yep, please make sure it's water in a hydropack. I would also recommend if you do look at Camelbak's in particular, make sure to look more at those designed for mountain bike riding as they'll be more aerodynamic than some of their counterparts. Also, make sure you invest in the brushes for cleaning it. Don't need to make yourself sick from having something growing in it that should not be there.

For back pack, I would rather go with a box instead. It can easily be removed if you need it to, and so far I have no problem carrying 10-15kg of clothes and other items with it and can handle cruising speed up to 65mph with no problem. I notice a huge relief from my back, specially for rides above 30 minutes.

I always get my boots at Big 5 Sporting Goods. My current pair are Coleman brand with steel toes for $29.95 plus tax. I've had them for over a month of very rainy weather and they still look new. Comfortable and durable. I've also bought Lugs and other brands at Big 5. I recommend you shop there first.

As someone hearing impaired I agree that hearing protection is essential. To add, I use filtered ear plugs that let certain sounds in because I have found that full foam earplugs block essential sounds like emergency vehicles. I fully realize others may hear enough sounds well enough even with the foam ear plugs, but this needs to be fined tuned for each rider.
@pistonburner6448
@pistonburner6448 Жыл бұрын
Yes, I believe with normal hearing we can hear everything perfectly fine with normal ear plugs. Still, I have a separate set of lower-level noise attenuation for riding in the city as I never hit highway speeds there. They're one of those "concert hearing protection" ear plugs from a high quality brand. But you have to try them out as they're barely effective enough for me in the city. It's surprising how much attenuation you need on a bike, and just a few dB less of rating on the ear plugs makes them useless on a bike. I always make sure to carry the proper ear plugs with me just in case my plans change and I do head out to higher-speed roads, and even just in case I lose the other pair.

So far, this has been the only video I've seen about motorbikes that is as informative as this. I don't sub to a tonne of people, but you got one from me as I hope you can release more awesome videos like this. Edit:Especially the bit about earplugs, I'll back you up on that. My hearing wasn't destroyed by bikes, but from work related things because I was stupid and didn't wear earplugs. Now i'm not deaf but I have a very hard time hearing certain pitches of sound. I can hear low tones very well(big engines and other similar noises), while I can still hear higher pitch noises, as soon as there is a low pitch noise mixed in all I can hear is the low pitch and the high pitch is completely drowned out. The biggest issue I have found so far, is with females and children who try and talk to me while low pitch noises are around, if their voices aren't deep enough I don't hear them at all when in the presence of engine noise. Learn from my stupidity and wear hearing protection, you will regret it later if you don't.

Also shooting ear pro are good for motorcycles. Plenty of in the ear active hearing plugs will allow you to hear everything up to a specific decibel and then it cuts out fully so it's adaptive to the situation.

Transitions/photochromic visor is fantastic. I carry my hydration pack in my tank bag inside of a bubblewrap envelope/bag. Keeps cold much longer, no condensation on bag contents and no clammy/cold/wet/sore back from wearing pack on your back. You sort of contradicted yourself when saying an accurate tire gauge and it costing a buck or two. For the sake of accuracy and longevity, spend a few more dollars, get a good one, preferably with a 0-50 psi range. It will measure in 1 lb increments and much easier to fine tune the pressure. A good steel pencil gauge is extremely durable, accurate and still costs only $10-15. Milton makes a very good one. You endorse the high dollar boots, so spend a bit more on the gauge too. By the way I have the sleeve vent shown in thumbnail, I'm afraid it falls in the same category as the Slap-chop, Sham-Wow and pocket fisherman.

FYI: Surefire makes awesome earpro. I run their EP4's at the gun range, but they work great for ALL sound reduction. They are cheap, comfortable, unobtrusive, and last a surprisingly long time. Anywho, just thought I'd share my 2 cents with the community. Hope this helps. ... Also, what is that thing that you put in your jacket sleeve that increases airflow? I too noticed the jacket sleeve device in the thumbnail and patiently waited information on it. It was the only "necessity" I, and likely most others, were not already aware of. The bottom line is that it was intentionally, not a mistake, and was done premeditated as click bait and is DISHONEST (look at angle of photo again). Therefore, anything/everything else he suggests, mentions.....either here now or in the future - is tainted and irrelevant. He "stold" 8 mins of my time and will never get more!

I definitely agree that some sort of intelligence/common sense test should be implemented into the motorcycle test. Even a self-evaluated inventory test where several questions about what you would do in different scenarios if you were riding would show the dmv if you are a safe or unfit rider.
