Both the Ninja 500 and Ninja 400 rev to the same limit. If you look at the TFT display and just any picture of the ninja 400 display you’ll see that it goes as follows: Ninja 400: 0k-11k (11k-13k redline) Ninja 500: 0k-11k (11k-14k redline) So it actually has a higher rev limit despite both hitting the rev limiter at the same spot (11k)

I really despise the term. It's too limiting. They are small displacement bikes. They are price-conscious bikes, in a international economy that makes a dozen eggs cost nearly $5 currently. It's not like money goes anywhere. But people who've reached middle age perhaps and have gotten all the horsepower junky out of their systems, would like a second smaller bike, or just experience something light, peppy, something they can crank the throttle and use all the power. It's an option. Sure the suspension and brakes aren't going to be like the bigger bikes, due to price point. You can learn a lot about motorcycles by riding the wheels off a smaller bike, even as an expert.

The Ninja 400's that have been bored out to 450cc are capable of HP in the mid 50's to mid 60's to the wheel depending on spec. Plus, Kawasaki is known for electronically neutering its bikes to meet emissions and noise requirements let alone the A2 standard common in other markets. It is too early to tell what the performance potential of the bike is but I would not write it off as being the same or worse than the previous model.

I bought a used 2023 Z400 with low mileage for many of the reasons you mentioned. It fits a sweet spot for me between a 250cc and 650-800cc bike. The high-revving engine sings right up to its 12k redline and is a of fun to ride. I thought the bump up to the Z500 would begin to compromise the small bike experience that I wanted. It’s always more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow. Personally, I also prefer the sharper styling of the Z400 which doesn’t reach the over-the-top styling of bikes such as larger Z-series options, all KTM’s, current Yamaha MT-series, etc.

The Ninja 500 isn't that much worse or even different. The redline dropped from 12,3 to 11,7 and weighs 8 more pounds. It's definitely still the benchmark. What's exciting is that KTM did exactly as you said and made a single cylinder that's way up in power. It's the same price as a Ninja 500 at $5,900 bucks. You get a thumper that's down on power compared to having a twin. But, a thumper is cheaper to manufacture than a twin so you get a shit ton of features. two way adjustable suspension front and rear, quickshifter, imu, and throttle by wire. Plus, the Husky variants are much prettier. So, at least the Ninja 400 isn't always the go to option.

The 500 is 9 lbs. heavier than the 400 per Kawasaki. TST dynojet run between stock 400 and 500 from 3 months ago (on reddit) showed 500 had 4 more hp and 6 more ft.lbs. The 500's horses are going to carry less. 372 lbs for the 500 is still very light.

Everything positive about the Z400 still applies to the 500 because they’re really the same bike. 50 or so cc’s isn’t much. Many of us wish ‘80s and ‘90s Civics could still be built, but they can’t. It’s the same here. Kawasaki had to do what Honda did years ago: provide a global platform that stays under 50HP because guess what? The North American bike market is not big enough to sustain a different model! Shame about the name. Yeah it should be Ninja 450/Z450.

I feel like there is a lot of hate in this video, but it seems to be pretty much the same bike. The rev limit is exactly the same. The overall width of the 500 is only 0.7" greater than the 400 lol so I wouldn't just assume it's "porky". It is ~15lbs heavier but obviously the power compensates. the seat height is also the same, so it really isn't any bigger than before... Also kind of weird to "review" a bike before riding it, just saying.

I actually like the weight gain.the 400 is SO light the wind is rough on it. I say that as highway riding would suck on it. This makes it a TAD better in that regard. I ALSO like the additional torque down low so i wouldn't have to rev AS hard at every light in order to keep in front of traffic. Im HOPING they detuned it for the European market though because if it adds a few more horses I'm getting one.
@pedrofp__
@pedrofp__ 8 ай бұрын
Why would they detune? The bike is already made for A2 compliance. The power output is the limit of that compliance category wich is 35KW (roughly 48HP), perfect power output in my opinion. Will remain the leader in this segment I believe. Also it won't get much more weight where you will notice a difference, it's only more 5Kg wich if you think that they add about 50cm3 of displacement it's not that bad. I owned a 2018 Ninja 400 for the past year for my first bike and I am getting this one new for 2024, it's the perfect bike for my needs and skill level. Such a balanced and sweet machine

I was born in the 60's and Kawasaki turned the sport bike world on its head when it released the 84 GPZ 900. Glorious in red and I bought an 87 model. For 2024 Kawasaki are releasing limited editions in red and black to celebrate that era....you probably think blue is Yamaha's color.....I bought a brand new FZR1000 in 1990 that was red and white......the same colour as the RD and RZ range of 250, 350 and 500 2 strokes that were legends in the Yamaha 80s model range. Just like Wayne Rainey's GP 500 race bike. Suzuki is yellow??? Certainly their off road range is but Suzuki 80s and 90s is blue and white.....there limited editions were always black and gold....I bought a low mileage 1988 GSXR 1100J in black and gold in 1988....my 25 year old daughter is the same as you and I was the same at your age. Why would you decide for other people if a bike is boring or not?? How fast do you drive in every days traffic? In other tests the Eliminator is very well appreciated! The normal road is not a racetrack! I ride a Honda 500 Scrambler, never had a nicer bike before! I usually drive not faster than 70 kmh. Sometimes I drive like Rossi on a special track where there is almost no traffic. But easy driving can be very satisfying! I rode a hornet 600 four cilinder with a speed of 214 kmh, and suddenly the bike steps out and moved to a channel, I managed to control the bike but for me no fast bike anymore!
