The guy at the back was sat on a really nice Ducati, we exchanged nods; as I looked back the S class had stopped to turn right, I had to emergency brake and swerve left whilst wobbling all over the place and looking like a bellend.

Always be looking for a bailout spot stopped or other wise. Started riding at 13 and still riding at 62 I've used the bailout 3 times 2 of the 3 would have killed me had I not had that mindset and my head always on a 360 degree swivel. You new rider's need to take that to heart. I've had a lot of friends that I use to ride with that are no longer riding with me because of alcohol, drugs or having the wrong mindset when they got on their bikes. Not preaching to any of you so don't think I am but remember one more thing. Don't ever think that you have mastered that bike the day you do it will turn on you. When I'm engine braking, I always slightly apply my rear brake to help control the deceleration and signal that I'm slowing down. It also makes me feel much more experienced than I am.
@FastFXS
@FastFXS 11 ай бұрын
You need to be using your front brake, Not, your rear brake, 75% of your stopping power is in front, .but, the main reason is you have much more control using the front. Think of it the same way as you would with a blowout. Front blows, you have much more control because the bars are in your hand and you can control the direction of bike more readily. Rear your at the mercy of the bike, rd etc. I personally preferred have control. Also keep in mind, your finger is much closer to the brake than your foot.

Fear is a really good and respected teacher. 👌 complacency kills. I respect every bike I get on. Every time I throw my leg over and start up, I accept that there's a chance I won't come back from that ride so every time I pull into my driveway or where ever I'm headed, its a relief and its satisfying. I never took any further training although I wish I had but after 15 years, I'm pretty aware of what I'm doing lol... not being cocky at all. I'm well aware I could just as easily make a mistake as anyone else on the road. I know guys who have been riding 20, 30 years and still make newbie mistakes, occasionally, but it happens.

'White-lining' is (or was in the 70s) legal in California. But it was mostly a legal loophole. First, most bikes are air cooled and CA freeways are justifiably infamous for their stand-still traffic. Second, bikes were legally permitted to share a lane with another bike - but since the law actually read "another vehicle' bikes could legally share a lane with a car; making 'white-lining' legal. (NOTE: this also meant that technically a 'white-liner was not suppose 'ride' the white-line. They were suppose to stay in one lane or the other, and if they changed lanes all requisite signaling was required. So, no white-line' weaving.) Put these two facts together and 'white-lining' was virtually a common way of life for bikers on LA freeways. (This type of "White-lining" ,aka Lane-splitting or Lane-sharing, is generally not legal outside of CA.) I tried it once in LA. But never again, and for good reasons. First, LOTS of CA drivers resent 'white-liners' and not a few will take aggressive actions against them. Second, I rode a dressed out tour bike - bigger bike, smaller mid-lane clearances. On top of that, I rode a Goldwing which is water cooled, so I didn't really have a NEED to take the added risk (or risk the threats) of 'white-lining'

I ride a yamaha 400 Majestic. It's Wyatt some call a maxscooter. I love being on 2 wheels. I, also feel much satisfaction when I get the wave from people on "real" motorcycles. I installed a module on my bike that flashes the brake light when I slow down without tapping my brakes. It's been helpful. Great video.

Great video! I like that you went over the front/rear brake vs. engine braking bit. In my opinion one of the best things that a beginner can do is to get in the habit of lightly pressing the rear brake when you are slowing down via engine braking... not enough to engage the rear break (unless you need it), but enough to make the brake light go on. Every time I ride a new bike, I (in a stationary position) have someone stand behind me and as I depress the rear brake and have them tell me when the light comes on. It's an easy skill to learn, and could prevent a rear-ending. Also, in regards to speeding away from a stop light, I do this to get out in front of traffic, as I feel much safer there. But, a note to beginners, you MUST be super aware of cross traffic. If you jack-rabbit it off of a stop light, and there is someone trying to beat a red light, you are dead. Cheers, and thanks for the videos!

In the UK, because we drive on the left we nod our heads in acknowlegment of other riders, because if we waved we would have to take our hands of the throttle. The leg move is also used to thank motorists who pull over to let you pass, while slow filtering, as you need both hands on the throttle and close to the front brake.

My FZ07 engine brake - I can lock up my rear tire from 3rd to 2nd. 2nd to 1st - all day. Drift starting (dont ask) needs 4th. I'm always aware of whats around me but Ive got in the habit of hitting the rear brake enough to light up my tail light when I downshift just to be extra safe and alert vehicles behind me. Its a super fun bike to ride but can be a bit squirrely even if just letting off the gas in the same gear around a corner. The Power Commander, Akrapovic exhaust and air filter helps Im sure... I came out of the womb riding a wheelie. Sorry for that image. I never stop respecting a bikes power or a cagers inability to see/hear me (or nature). Probably a good thing I let my CBR954RR go after 10 years. Loud pipes save lives - Im a believer. One thing I personally think you missed - when a biker revs really loud while in motion. Now, some do it because they like the sound but when youre riding and someone pulls out in front of you - or tries to get in your lane - similar to the turn signal stuck on - the horn button isnt always easy to hit. The throttle however - with a loud pipe - that driver knows something is up and they look (most of the time). I did however have a soccer mom literally try to kill me with her SUV when I did that with my CBR and Two Brothers exhaust. Icy roads even. I was doing 30. She had to have seen me. I had enough time to slow but hit the throttle (for noise) - she slammed her brakes. 500ft later the road split. I was going right (to work at 7:30AM) she was going left (to town) - she swerved over on me. Hmmfph. Anyway. Keep it rubber side down folks. (Oh side note - I 2 finger even scooters when I pass - were all just enjoying the ride right? Though I feel shaded when they dont wave back hehehe)

I waved at a bicyclist the other day and they actually gave me a wave back, that was nice. Most motorcyclists are nice people, but if you see someone in no gear besides hopefully a helmet on a sport bike/crotch rocket, don't assume they are as nice.. htose guys tend to be short-tempered and only riding as fun rather than for commute+fun.

I was told that the weight of my helmet, and the vibration of the bike would shatter my fusions. It was the closest thing on earth to the feeling I got from a free fall. As a paratrooper in the 3Bn 75th, I was able to do multiple H.A.L.O. jumps, and that is not falling, that is flying. and side note. my bike had front shocks, but was a hard tail. so standing was a lot more important than on more modern bikes. I had a '63 Panhead. it was not kidney friendly.

tendency? anecdotal evidence at best. The center part of the lane is where all the debris ends up, as well as all the oil droplets... the center lane in heavy dew or light rain turns to a slip slide.

@@robertg5775 where the hell do you ride where cars still leak oil and are dropping debris on the pavement?! you stop at the left side of the lane, 10 feet back, and point your bike at the drivers side of the car in front of you for WHEN someone comes up behind you and does not stop. You go around the car infront of you who has seat belts and air bags and crumple zones - HE will survive, you will not survive getting pancaked between two vehicles We ride almost on the center line when the road is clear because on roads with trees and bushes right up to the edge of the pavement, you dont know when an animal will jump out into the street, from either side. Being near the centerline gives you the best options to see it coming, swerve and miss.

FYI I don’t know why or when I picked it up it’s just something I’ve always done.

I'm a new guy, have only 3 years of experience motorcycling. My instructor also warned me about engine braking and giving at least a tap to the breaks so that cars behind know you're slowing down with engine brake. One thing I learned here in my city is to get away from cars at traffic lights: many people here check their phones at traffic lights and keep doing it when the green comes on. I have seen cars bump each other due to drivers not looking at the road when taking off at traffic lights, don't wanna try it while I'm on two wheels.

When in traffic and decelerating by rolling off the throttle or while stopped at a light without a car or two stopped behind me. I tap the front brake lever 2 or 3 rapid taps to activate the the brake light every 3 or 4 seconds until I see the car approaching from the rear decelerating. Always give yourself an exit path in stopped traffic and enough space between you and the car stopped in front of you to use it. The brake light flashing rapidly draws attention, there are modulating circuits to flash the brake light when the brakes are applied automatically that can be added to any bike.

"Most cars have self cancelling blinkers" Most semi trucks *don't* have self cancelling blinkers, it's important with all the wide swings you have to do in a truck. Word of advice from a trucker, never pass on the right, I can't see a thing over there. Whenever we signal right and turn left, that's not a cue to try and pass, I'm about to swing back and you might get ended. I'm working on my motorcycle license again because my old one expired, and if I can give any advice to a motorcyclist on what to do around a semi truck, *haul ass.* Tires can explode randomly and we don't even notice sometimes. Retreads are extremely dangerous for motorcyclists, especially in the summer months when the tires get hot.

40+ years riding here, exclusively street, exclusively cruisers. I noticed in the first part, the ride videos, the guy riding in the right lane. For those who don't know, each car lane actually has 3 motorcycle lanes: the right lane, the middle, or grease lane, and the left lane. On a two lane road, I always try to stay in the left lane, especially if there are cars behind me. That way, if the car behind the one I am behind wants to pass, he can more easily see that the spot in front of the car behind me is occupied. I have seen, too many times, where a car will pass a car and try to dive into the spot in front of it, only to discover that there was a bike already there.
