This is actual push hands. As soon as he mentioned peng, li, ji & an as the four basic moves I knew he was worth a listen. Some of the fake single hand wrestling matches are just clueless. Great post...

Excellent explanation and demonstration. His taiji and teaching skills are good! He has acquired a good command of english to transmit his knowledge to westerners, his students are very fortunate. Humble and intelligent! There are some great Taiji masters and some good teachers in the world today, few have both qualities. Yang Jun appears to be one of the few that has both!

Same as the Chen style sequence, in fact he is the only Yang stylist I have ever seen do the set like this and there seems to be more than a bit of Chen in his structure

I see a young Dragon, nourished on the wisdom of experience, wings grown strong, with only the open sky before him. Carrying his family's banner with honor, Master Yang Jun's actions benefit all. Many years I've wandered on the slopes of the Mountain, sometimes finding a cool shade and water, but mostly lost in thickets so dense one easily loses the Way. I see now the trail I've come across on occasion is the one made your Family. I would be your student if it were possible.

I don’t know what this is supposed to be, but if we trust the Taiji classics,* there’s one thing it ain’t: Taiji. This purports to be a demo by the “the Yang Chengfu Tai Chi Center.” But what do the Taiji classics and Yang Chengfu himself tell us? “The millstone turns but the axle does not.” In other words, we never lean. [Yang Chengfu, as quoted in Cheng Man-ch’ing. Cheng Tzu's Thirteen Treatises on T'ai Chi Ch’uan, translated by Benjamin Pang Jeng Lo and Martin Inn. (North Atlantic, Berkeley, CA, 1985); hereafter, “13T”]. There are no hands in Taiji (from the Classics). In other words, we never grab. 3. The fundamental movements of Push Hands are contained in Grasp the Sparrow’s Tail… . In other words, if you are not doing GST, you’re not even doing Push Hands. (13T) 4. Separate Insubstantial from Substantial. [a.k.a. “separate weight”]. Never be double-weighted. (13T) 5. No strength or speed. “When others use movement to attack, I [respond with] stillness …” (13T) And on and on and on. I’m sorry, but if you are going to present yourself as a “master,” you should at least learn the art you’re supposed to have mastered. See also, “Taichi or not Taichi-That is the Question: What do the Classic Say about Taichi?” at kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hLadZM1q0sq0eZs.html .

I apologize for the stupid question, but what's push hands for? Is it like the new way to fight?

I do not know Yang Jun but to challenge here him shows no class. A Chinese martial artist would understand Chinese culture and civil and martial ethics. Let Yang Jun teach his school as he wants, respect others no matter what you think of them. Also to speak badly of someone publicly, just reflects badly on the speaker. True martial artists respect other people and keep there opinions inside, and people that challenge are only trying to make a name or prove something, and embarrasses their Sifu.

I wonder what this challenge was about? Push hands? Exhibition? "My kung-fu is better than your kung-fu" stuff?

what are you talking about "Challenge" a friendly push hands , a full on kung fu fight complete with signed death waiver? LOL seriously? I would personally like to do a few push hands with people, I did a few in China when we visited but found most used too much force and were easily deflected and caught by surprise buy the simple folding of the elbow and palm to the face or body (placed gently of course but placed easily)

Master Yang is demonstrating some of the lower level skills that are definitely a vital part of Tai Chi Ch'uan. Why does everyone expect some mystical experience ALL the time? I think he is just being audience-centered; look at the audience! Tell you what, all you haters challenge him to a push hands contest, record it, and then post it on you tube. Until then, STFU! Have some more respect!

@zipdrive011 "Young master is explaining the prerequisites of basic push hands showing the zhou-hua (neutralizing) that requires zhan-nien-lien-sui. [...] If you say he is wrong, please prove it in writing." You're missing the point: Action speaks louder than words. Anyone can cite the classics, but that does not equal understanding or skill at all! "Prove it in writing"?? No! Prove it in practical demonstration of skill! We're waiting!!

@pitviper328 I feel for you man! I only touched hands with him once, many years ago (not competitively mind you). While he seemed like a nice chap, I was not impressed with his peng jin, which is also evidently lacking in this video! And to the "Yang family congregation": Before you start talking about "respect" and "ethics" again, first post a video that proves us wrong, or at least an eye witness account of these masters' supposed great skill.

@Anglostani Yang Zhen Duo was 4 years old when his father died, so of course he HAS to have the REAL secret inner teachings that noone else knows LOL! If he's the best, why isn't there a single video of YZD or YJ doing anything even remotely impressive on the whole of youtube? Please prove me wrong post a link to a video where either one of them really kicks ass -nothing would make me happier! But until then: Skills speak louder than words -or family name for that matter.

Do you really think that KZfaq is the only definitive context for measuring quality? Why should either of these Taijiquan masters have to prove their skill levels to you. Do you not realise that for every sifu who performs publicly there may be a multitude who do not, never have and never would because that is not their inclination. They and these Sifu are not involved in a life-time of enquiry and exploration just so they can show off their knowledge to impress people like you. Does it matter? Does it make them any less authentic? These individuals are not the holders of the Yang Family tradition for nothing? Did they just walk in to this position? I have think they have great integrity and deserve respect. Perhaps you should watch KZfaq less and conduct a more rigorous and humble exploration of your own path?
