RIP Kathy Chow is the loss of a great dramatic artist, unforgettable in her role as Queen Mother in the wonderful "Ashes of Love", I just finished watching her as Imperial Consort in "The Empress of China"

Deng Lun is one of the best screen actors of his generation. He is so good, that I have recently rewatched some of his work, like Ashes of Love, Fighting, and Ying Yang Master. I just don't get why all the good ones get banned.

I’ll also remember Kathy Chow as Tu Yao / Heavenly Empress (Deng Lun character’s mom) in Ashes of Love. I remember how surprised and excited I was to see her perform again after a few decades. She was awesome.

I agree with your thoughts about Deng Lun; he will most likely not return unless he gets to act outside China. Looking at these, Lareina Song is also in trouble, and so is Crystal Yaun. I hate when actors face this because it dissapoints me as a person due to how well we value them. Hope Yang Zi takes care of herself better. Marcus Hi What I appreciate most about your blog is your diplomatic assessment of certain "issues". In China the film industry in its totality can exist & operate as long as it tows the line with regard to the State's cultural & political agenda (and fill the coffers of the State). It is no secret that in China citizens exist to "serve" the State and that the State has not been constituted to "serve" the citizens. Hence the manifest two weights, two measures scenario when it comes to the gravity of a crime. Tax fraud & evasion, is a prime example of an attempt of the citizen (the servant) to "disrespect & defy" the supremacy of State (the master) over said citizen. In contrast, lack of sexual fidelity is a person to person misdemeanor and for multiple reasons likely to be judged far less "unpardonable" (in the Chinese context) than a defiant refusal to pay one's full tax dues! Fans of Deng Lun might consider the possibility that for Deng Lun, the situation actually has a silver lining. Although the actor was "forced out" of the system at his peak, the hard & tiring grind of the Chinese film industry is now behind him! Ironically, if he so wishes, Deng Lun is now able to explore "unfettered" pastures new (perhaps even outside China itself).

There are many dramas where I see the breath of the actor who is speaking and when I enquired about it, a Netizen told me that many dramas are filmed in the cold and that the buildings/rooms they film in do not have heat. All I can say is I hurt for Yang Zi and all the actors who have to go thru such grueling extremes for our entertainment. I find it sort of abusive. I still support Deng Lun to come back if he is showing good faith by paying back the taxes he owes. In America, actors are welcomed back all the time no matter what scandal they are involved in. I will reiterate my opinion, and that is, at 29, most men are still maturing and make immature mistakes. I honestly feel in my heart that he was misled down that path where the much older people around him influenced him and other actors to do the wrong thing. I picture this little devil whispering in their ear, being that bad side of ourselves. I suggest that Deng Lun go to a different country to utilize his amazing talent in acting. Hi Marcus, I agree with you that it is impossible for Deng Lun or any celebrity involved in a tax scandal to come back. The average person in China makes about US$12-13k a year. Actors like Deng Lun make millions and they are supposed to be positive role models for society. It is completely unacceptable, even despicable of them to evade taxes when they make so much more than the average person. To let them off sends all sorts of wrong messages to hard working normal people who pay their taxes. That said, I think dramas that were already filmed should be allowed to air anyway bc there is so much collateral damage to the rest of the production who did nothing wrong.

So many good Dramas on the horizon, I'll spend the weekend busy.

Enjoying The Last Immortal. As usual Zhao Lusi brings it home with her performance. Really looking forward to Legend of Shen Li. Also really hoping to watch Scout Hero as Sandra Ma is one of my favorite actresses with her natural beauty and charisma.

I saw an article that speculated that Kathy Chow passed away from Lupus complications and that she also had high blood pressure. 57 is still too young 😢 She made a good villain in Ashes of Love. RIP.

The little beast Lusi plays in the beginning is going to be a great toy for a girl. It’s toooo cute! Unfortunately for me this is not my cup of tea. I prefer a hard hitting drama with a little edge. Another drama in this category is Love Me Love My Voice. A sweet drama for the family to watch. I’ve put this drama aside for Christmas as that’s the sweet season of the year. To add insult to injury A Journey To Love on KZfaq was pulled at episode25. I can’t find Scent In Time on none of my platforms, along with a few other dramas missing from my region. What did I do? People make mistakes. As long as he has repaid and doesn't get into trouble again, I think Deng Lun should come back. However, if he pissed someone in the Party off, then he won't have much luck. Lets be honest, the Party is deciding who can act, sing, dance etc. They despise homosexuality or anything that can challenge their authority.

Hi 👋; in regards to DL, I do kind of hope he comes back. I was never a fan, but he's a good actor so it shouldn't be a career ending thing even though he definitely should've paid his damn taxes; it's not like he's poor. Tried watching the last immortal and it's totally not for me and also dropped BTTH. So currently still watching "I May Love You" which ends tomorrow and is mediocre at best. Secondly, "AJTL" (which is so refreshing and mature for a costume drama and a wuxia; it's like a little bit of everything, a little bit of fighting, romance, a little bit of comedy, a little bit of palace intrigue, etc.). I don't remember ever seeing a rumor regarding Cecilia fainting but LYN did break his foot on that set. Don't remember what happened or how it happened but it did happen. Lastly, "LMLMV" is just sugar and spice and everything nice. It is such a heartwarming, lovely, sweet, easy on the brain drama for those looking for that kind of thing. I actually hope that more dramas drop before the end of the month, including "amidst a snowstorm of love" because it already got its license and they've been putting up a lot of promotional stuff, so it could very well premiere at the end of this month or something. I have watched the last immortal up to 4th episode. The story is so cliche i cant bear to watch further even with zhao lusi in it. Kinda shocked to see Yang Zhi freezing livestream is actually freezing. I thought it was because the overcrowded viewers so the server went freeze😅

I don’t think Deng Lun will have a comeback. It’s tough to be a celebrity on spotlight - getting criticize all the time. I think he’s doing well now with his restaurants business. The Last Immortal is really bad. Bad protagonist actor, bad sets and bad special effects. Waiting for Zhao Liying, but Shawn Dou was much better than Li Gengxin in Princess Agents, the latter is a "bland" actor. I'm a big fan of Xing Zhaolin, he's great at comedies.

The Last Immortal is awful. The special effects are cheaply done, the acting is wooden and the script is dated.

Shocked to hear about Kathy Chow. I heard she had lupus. As for DL, don't care if he returns. Good riddance. He was someone who did nothing when Kathy Chow was being trolled and cyber bullied. Another supporting actor actually stood up for her and told insane AOL fans to separate drama from actor and that she was a good person and actor.

Deng Lun will not come back. I don’t know if someone frame him or that he actually did the crime. Regardless, with government and people strict view/policy, he will make an example of.
