Excellent showing how a Thermostart works. It's on my J.D. 750, 3 cyl. Yanmar I bought a few years ago. The Thermostart didn't work so bought a new one from HOYE so now it works. The element heats up opening a tube valve which allows a small amount of fuel to light. Holding key too long can burn element out. In Mich. winter I use the block heater I installed for about 3 hrs. and it starts like summertime without using Thermostart. Never, ever use starting fliud on these engines, they are a " pre combustion chamber " design and can be ruined using fluid. You want Thermostart working just in case tractor is stranded away from 110 volts. Great video, thanks.

Thanks for the kind words Jeff. I'll be installing a block heater this year...even down here in Alabama, the weather gets cold enough to make for a hard start on my 2210.

Didn't know that yanmar has use this too. It's improved ki-gass system. First time I saw it in ferguson tractor but it is even older than that. Perhaps I should built this to my yanmar tractor too. Thanks for shearing..

LOL - sorry, I gotta chuckle at you shutting the hood on your finger... 'cause you know, I've _never_ done it... ;) Funny thing about the cold weather "heater" glow igniter thing, on my 1500D I've never used mine and it fires right up. And I'm talking right up - even when it's 10 out. I was told by a few diesel guys that work on all sorts if the injectors are good and the valves are right you don't need the little heater. My tractor doesn't even have it hooked up. My Dodge Cummins has a grid heater that I don't use. Fires right up. (yea, injectors aren't cheap. I know)

I got a yanmar 1700 that will not start at all unless you use starting fluid or put some gasoline on the rag and hold it over the intake even on a hot day and I don't like doing that and I did do a partial rebuild on the motor I reuse the same sleeves they were still good in the valves and everything were still good so I just replaced the Pistons and the rings and the bearings anyway it has good oil pressure and compression I can't figure it out it still will not start without starting fluid at all but once it's running it does good I'm in Alabama so it doesn't get too cold here I don't understand it unless it could be the fuel injector pump or something

Mine gives me fits trying to start it in cold weather....not too bad in hot weather if I start it every day. I think I'm going to try a gear reduction starter that will spin the engine faster when starting. Hope that will help mine out. In the mean time, I have to get another front rim. Mine came apart on me a month or so ago. The guy I bought my 2210 from had some sort of fluid in the tire and it rusted out the rim from the inside. Made a turn and the rim came apart.

Just found a 2210D tractor to look at. Oil is grey like water in it. Guy says it did over heat last year and has just been parked. Runs good. Worth getting it if its cheap? Never worked on diesel. Just rebuilt some 60s ford 390s and C6 transmissions
@kelly8062 жыл бұрын
Hello Ed. I guess it would depend on what he is asking for it. If you can get it fairly cheap, I'd get it. Then, drain the oil, flush the radiator and see how it runs. You'll know pretty soon if the head is cracked. If it is, a new one will set you back around $700-$900. The 2210D is an awesome tractor.

Hello, just purchased a yanmar 2000 with the the same fuel reservoir however I noticed I have been having a lot of trouble turning on the tractor. After checking the reservoir I noticed it was empty. Do you know if this can cause your tractor not to start to have issues starting of it is empty?
@kelly806 Жыл бұрын
The reservoir being empty shouldn't affect starting the tractor...unless you're using the thermostart. Mine usually gives me trouble on colder days. What procedure are you going thru to start yours?
@ManuelMartinez-if5ul Жыл бұрын
@@kelly806 Just purchased my ym2000 and it seems I struggle to start mine every single time. I allow the thermostart to warm up, however I add the a quick shot of diesel starting fluid and pull the decompression level and sometimes it works other times it doesn't. I'm going to add diesel to my reservoir to see if that helps. Any other suggestions will greatly be appreciated.
@kelly806 Жыл бұрын
@@ManuelMartinez-if5ul Sounds just like my 2210D. Try this....open your decompression lever, then pull your throttle back all the way. Spin the engine for about 25 seconds, and while it's spinning, close the decompression valve. The engine might start to fire off, and you'll need to adjust the throttle. I'd avoid the starter fluid. I cracked the head on mine using it. But, if you have to use it, barely spray it into the intake. A little of that stuff goes a long way. Let me know if this makes sense...if it's hard to follow, I'll be gad to post a video on how I have to start mine. Good luck!
