Yard Kart Performance Mods | Can we Build a Top 5 Performer for Cheap??

We’re modifying our newest yard kart to try to get it into the top five on our leaderboard! Our top five fastest vehicles around the CarsandCameras Grand Prix include the 750cc cross kart, the Grave Ninja 650, and other high powered, sophisticated machines. We think with the proper gearing and thoughtful modifications, we can get this humble OHC 5 horsepower Honda yard kart around the track in a similar time to the high powered machines. We install a live axle kit to get power to the ground, change the gearing, install new and better brakes, space the front wheels out for better stability, and install a Mikuni 22mm carburetor for more power.

@@TrulyUnfortunate 😆 From what I've seen yep, he's the crash star! This is number 2 at that curve I think. They need a dunce helmet or something similar lmao 😂 That little cart could cause a lot of pain though 🤕 Could almost feel it..

John, you bought the tractor now go get you a rototiller attachment for it, then till the entire track about 6" deep, and put the scraper blade on it and blade the track! you can fill the low spots and take out the high spots making it a way better track. or do I need to come up there and do it for you? lol

you guys should just totally modify that thing move the engine back about 6 inches , center the steering wheel and seat and raise the front up and correct the clearance for the front wheels. and maybe port and polish the head on that honda

i cant tell but is the engine centered? if not then the driver actually needs to be slightly off center in the opposite direction for proper left right balance.

Cool cart for getting it free. Center your seat and steering for more stability when turning, especially on right turns. You won't tip over as easily and you will have equalized your weight on the live rear axle and may have better traction in the mud. Great video!

I miss stuff like this, the lowest budget shop parts builds. I love how far you guys have come from the what to look for in a go kart videos, but going back to the roots like this is awesome to see

Watching all these videos of you two & sometimes three, one thing I do see that is so rare like winning the lotto with 1 in a billionth of a chance to win is the friendship you two share with each other. I have spent 42 years looking for something like this in over 25 different fields I dabble in not one bite. Cherish what you two have because you most likely will never find something so rare again.

Holy cow! That tie rod flex at 1:14 is crazy! Swapping the front tires to the back would help with the gearing.

In 1979 I built a cart like this one. So much fun. I attached a set (like 8 springs) of car lifter springs between the seat and frame.....much smoother ride and MUST be tried!

You all REALLY need to work on that road in the woods, put a crown on the road with some gutters along the edge to drain the water faster, you have the tractor use it!!

It’d probably be way more fun with smaller tires. I have a solid axle swapped yard kart with a 5.5hp and it can spin tires all the way up to it’s top speed at about 25 or 30 mph.

I have a wonderful idea for a video! Go throught the leader board slowest to fastest and show the video clips as a complation video slowest to fastest! That would be an excellent vlog!! Look at that right side steering linkage bend,,, that was one of the first things that i had to beef up on my Manco RedFox, 1/4 galvanised pipe with the correct sized nuts welded on the ends and some Heim Joints, made a huge difference.

All the slip in the drive train before really helped that engine get into the power band. I think it would benefit from a higher stall clutch now as well as a little lower gearing. It needs more rpm.

I have the exact same motor on my pressure washer and it didn't like running off choke until I replaced the plastic spacer, now she runs much better.

2nd time you've hit that tree .. You need to make an episode cutting down tree and blowing up the stump .. Make a stump and drill a hole just to the base of it and blow it up .. . than try and build me a coustom gas powerd rascal with a jockey shift and hand control gas and brake. . i miss going fast . you guys do awesome build and modifications.. Looks fun make me miss building stuff with my buddies at his shop..

I think no matter what, you need to make one more gear change. If for no other reason just to see the difference. Plus, that will help a bunch when you come out of the woods where it seems to have the most problem regaining speed. Great job, cant wait to see more.

Funniest thing happened yesterday. Watched your video yesterday of the honda engine and was the first time seeing that stylrengine. My friend brought a abandoned pressure washer with a guess what. 5hp honda with a timing belt. Lol
