Finally bought my first pack of strawberry laces at a festival. They are everything I hoped they would be. I would have my head on a cat, because they can sleep anywhere, land on their feet and climb and jump. Etc. As far as I know the best thing to do when a cow is coming after you is move to the side as they like to charge more than chance, but to do need to get away from them somehow when you do before they charge again. Be agile I guess. Lol my best guess anyway

@@cdwc True. Anything sudden will stop them: I remember like an idiot many years ago I caused a stampede behind me by running across a very long field to get to the gate more quickly: the cattle innocently followed, but at a running pace: they would have run me over but not out of aggression, soI remembered something a cousin told me: 'stop and stamp'. So that's what I did - it worked and I wasn't turned into a 2D image of myself.

The official guidelines for aggressive cows are to walk quietly and quickly and avoid direct eye contact. If one attacks, hit them on the nose. I was chased by one as a kid. I just ran for my life and hopped the fence right onto cow poo... sigh.

But what if there is a whole herd? I got chased by a whole herd on a bit of this walk I did before (I subsequently avoided it this time). On that occasion I made it to the stile just before them, but what do you do if they are stampeding and there is no chance of you getting to safety?

@@cdwc I'm sorry Marek... that sounds like an awful nightmare scenario. I dunno. I try to avoid them as well, but they can be very curious. My uncle was a dairyman who told me once that a person can run longer than a cow. But I never put that to the test.

I’m sure I’ve read that you shouldn’t run from cows unless you’re sure you can get to safety. They’re quite fast. If you can’t get to safety then shouting can scare them off or as a last resort hitting them on the nose. Trekking poles will make that easier. I’d put my head on a giraffe I think. I know I've replied to cow talk on here before, but all I've found out is don't try and outrun them as you will not be able to. Don't stare them out, just look to the ground or away and pretend you are very much engrossed in something other than there being large psychopaths all around you. I had to cross a massive field last week on the southern upland way, cows and young everywhere and none of them moved at me but were just looking. As a last resort I would have jumped and screamed at them whilst using a walking pole as defence. It really is scary and certain breeds are worse than others without a doubt.
