Got a recommendation for staying within your budget. Keep the money separated, either in cash or on a prepaid debit card like you can buy at the store. Then if you go over, you have to actively pull money from somewhere else. And when you plan your budget give yourself a little wiggle room, like about $20 dollars that you don't put in the separated funds. That way you can cover the unexpected little bit without technically going over budget but still gives you a stopping point.

If you’re ever in Chicago again you should go to the wasteshed! It’s a craft reuse place and sometimes they have higher end yarn as well my favorite lys in chicago is probably knit one but the woman who works at sister arts is always so sweet! I need to check out yarnify though… that discount yarn room looked nice

Chicagoan here! I visited yarnify! for the first time a couple weeks ago and fell victim to the over budget too lol it's hard to stay the course when there's soooo much yarn there! Also our sales tax is ridiculous so I'm sure that didn't help either lol Blooming Spindle would've been a perfect LYS to go to because they are small and have so many unique indie dyed brands there. You would've easily found something you've never heard of.I hope you make a return visit to Chicago soon, and add Miss Purl's to your list! That's a black woman owned shop that has a nice variety of yarns in various price points as well as a welcoming community vibe.

You should try Yarning for Ewe in the Atlanta/Cumberland area! It’s similar vibes to the first shop you went to, there’s huge variety of yarn and it’s POC woman owned! It’s my favorite place to buy yarn tbh

This video makes me so excited to go yarn shopping on my next trip! I’m going in a few weeks and I have a whole list with projects I want to make with what fibres and in what colours. So I can look in the yarn stores if the yarn meets these requirements, because on my last trip I ended with all kinds of fun and beautiful yarn without a purpose, and a lot still unused😅

It is almost impossible for me to stay on budget when going to yarn shops like this. I have only gone to mosaic yarn shop in the Chicago area, but each time i spent almost 200. I am saving up more than that for the next local yarn store i go to, cuz it adds up fast and i always get fomo as soon as i walk in, and end up grabbing everything that gives me a little dopamine lol

Simplinatural by HiKoo is sooo soft. I got a pumpkin-ish color made with mulberry silk and wool. Gonna make a fall sweater with it, it's sooo nice :D expensive and harder to find color lots lol but sooo worth it

so Chicago actually forbids almost all development of buildings and private businesses east of Lake Shore Drive because of an initiative done to preserve the beaches for the public back in like the early 1800s, it evolved into this idea of the lakefront being "Forever Open, Clear, and Free" so that all Chicagoans could enjoy it without the beaches and parks becoming private residences or industrial developments. there's a few exceptions like Lake Point Tower which was and still is very controversial and Lake Shore Drive itself, some people think it should be torn up and replaced with park space. we don't have any boardwalks or many lakefront businesses to preserve the lakefront and beaches we do have, some stretches don't accumulate sand and the park district and even the army corps of engineers have worked on sections of it to rework the lakefront path and other parts of the lakefront to keep it safe and useable for everyone. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but personally I find it refreshing that the beach is basically all beach and not like an overly developed amusement area. plus the free space allows for beach volleyball tournaments that happen every year which is cool. I'm glad you had so much fun in my home city, when visitors have a good time I beam with pride lol. I absolutely must check out sister arts, I've walked by it a million times but I've never gone in.
