With all of India’s 640 million votes counted following the six-week-long election, Lok Sabha Election 2024 Results has thrown up some big surprises. The governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of Prime Minister Narendra Modi won 240 seats, falling short of the 272-mark that signifies a majority in the Lok Sabha. With its allies, the BJP has still secured a majority, winning 293 seats.
Uttar Pradesh, which had become the bastion of BJP, saw Samajwadi Party gaining more seats. Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s poll narrative of PDA (Pichhda, Dalit and Alpsankhyak) has come to reflect much more prominently with more than 86% of the party’s elected MPs in Uttar Pradesh coming from OBC, Dalit and Muslim background.

Two observations: communal divide which you call as demographic shifts led to quite a few losses for BJP. Anecdotal examples: 2 seats in Mumbai Ujwal Nikam & Kotecha in North east mumbai. Dr Bhamre in Jalgaon. He lost only due to Malegaon. Sad part is it’s going to lead to reverse polarisation and one can expect intense communal fight in state elections

@gliss80 Nah not a fluke for YoYa. Started listening him after 1st phase voting, he was adamant right from the start that BJP isn't going above 250 and NDA not crossing 300. When everybody declared this election done and dusted after 22 Jan it was YoYa who was saying there's still angst in the hinterland, i guess he was proven right

In my circle of friends and family, I've noticed a growing alienation of urban and professional youth from the BJP. This same group was very supportive of Modi just a few years ago. Through numerous discussions and debates, I've identified two core issues: explicit polarization and arrogance. While the arrogance is evident, the BJP's Hindu-Muslim rhetoric seems to be a countermeasure to the long-established Muslim vote bank politics. In terms of schemes, benefits, and services, there is likely no discrimination; Muslims might even be economically better off under the BJP. However, the very explicit approach of the BJP is off-putting. They need to find a subtler way to address these issues. As long as there is a Muslim vote bank, there will be a Hindu vote bank as well. The BJP should learn from the opposition and adopt a more discreet approach.

Last line is wrong... opposition including daughter of Salman Khurshid openly said, "Musalmano, vote jihad Karo(means collectively vote for just one party), Mamta Banerjee has said same thing openly to Muslims in Bengal, Congress is offering religion based reservations, videos surfaced of Maulvis in Maharashtra openly persuading all Muslims to vote out BJP. When there is so much appeasement and polarization of Muslims, why should Modi not do same for Hindus? Hindus if not united, will forever be divided in castes- Yadav, Dalit, savarna and be dominated by unanimous Muslim demography.
