We don't blame shaitan for bad actions. Shaitan can influence, but most times we take the action and independently. Other wise we would be free from punishments. Just like that, iblis had free will and chose to be that. Anything beyond is within the knowledge of the unseen

Summary(Important Notes) of The Stories of The Prophets- 22. The Story of Adam (Pt. 10): The Story of Iblīs Iblees refusing to prostrate is also explicitly mentioned 7 times in the Qur’an - 1. Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayah 34. 2. Surah Al-A’raf, Ayah 11. 3. Surah Al-Hijr, Ayah 31. 4. Surah Saad, Ayah 74. 5. Surah Al-Isra, Ayah 61. 6. Surah Al-Kahf, Ayah 50. 7. Surah Taha, Ayah 116. Allah also shows us a conversation between Iblees and Him, explaining why Iblees refused and how he became who he is today. It is interesting to note that Iblees was arrogant enough to turn to Allah and blame Allah for “deceiving” Iblees even though there was no deception. Allah never said Iblees is the most honoured creation, Iblees assumed it about himself. What does the name Iblees mean? There are two explanations - 1. It comes from the Arabic verb “بَلَسَ - أبلس” (the one who is remorseful). It is used in the Qur’an in Surah Rum, Ayah 12 to describe the disbelievers on the Day of Judgement. So “اِبْلِيْس” is in the method of “إفعيل” which means “the one who is full of regret”. However, this interpretation is problematic because it presumes that the language spoken pre-Adam(AS) was Arabic which simply cannot be true. In addition to that, when Allah first called him “Iblees”, he had no reason to be regretful. Finally, in pure Arabic, we would not be able to form the word “اِبْلِيْس” since it is ممنوع من الصرف (Partly Flexible). 2. There is no Arabic verb involved, it is simply a proper noun. If it had a meaning in its original language, it is now lost in history. Iblees is just an Arabicized version of his real name. Difference between Iblees and Shaitan and the Meaning of Shaitan: Iblees is a real name that refers to a specific entity. Shaitan is not a proper name, it is a description. It is a much broader term and it is clearly an Arabic word. It comes from the root word “شطن” (to go far away/to expel). So Shaitan is “any and every entity that takes you far away from the straight path”, they can from Jinn and from Humans. Anybody who leads you away from Allah, anybody who wants to expel you from the mercy of Allah is called Shaitan. Was Iblees from the Angels or the Jinns? There are two answers to this: I. Iblees is from the Angels:- At-Tabari, Al-Bagawi, Al-Kurtubi and the majority of earlier (pre-modern) Islamic scholars are of the opinion that Iblees is from the Angels. Their evidence is as follows - 1. The Ayah of the Qur’an. فَسَجَدُوٓاْ إِلَّآ إِبۡلِيسَ and they prostrated, except Iblees; (Surah Taha, Ayah 116) There are two ways of making an exception in the Arabic language - a) Taking something out that belonged in the group (إِسْتِثْنى مُتَّصِل) b) Taking something out that did not belong in the group (إِسْتِثْنى غَيْر مُتَّصِل) The default (primary meaning) is that you take something out that belonged in the group (إِسْتِثْنى مُتَّصِل). Even the word used here - “إِلَّآ” (except) - is generally used for a being or entity that is part of the group. So if Allah says “All Angels prostrated except Iblees”, it means Iblees was part of the group, i.e, he is from the Angels. However, there is a secondary meaning (not default but possible) where you use “إِلَّآ” to take something out that is not part of the group. 2. Majority of Sahaba and Tabi’un clearly state that Iblees is from the Jinns. Within these comes a group (which includes Ibn Abbas and certain others) who say that Jinns are the fallen Angels. According to them, Jinns are a tribe of Angels who are not exactly the same as other Angels. Allah had given them dominion over a certain place (either in the Heavens or Earth). So when Allah gave the command to Angels to prostrate to Adam(AS), the Jinns were included. When they did not obey, they were cast away from the Angelic force and were not given Angelic privileges. This notion is found in Christian sources too. 3. Allah only commanded the Angels to prostrate. If Iblees was not from the Angels, then if he did not prostrate, why would he be considered as disobeying Allah’s command? Allah did not say Jinns were commanded to prostrate too. - The key evidence against this opinion is in Surah Al-Kahf, Ayah 50 where Allah says كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ He was of the jinn This is explained by the scholars of this opinion in 2 ways: i) The group who believe that Jinns are fallen angels (like Ibn Abbas) simply say that Iblees is from the Jinns and the Jinns is a sub-tribe of Angels. ii) Other Tabi’un say that the word “ٱلۡجِنِّ ” is used here as an adjective, not a proper noun. This only means “something hidden”. This does not refer to another species of creation. They say this means Iblees was that which cannot be seen by mankind. II. Iblees is from the Jinns:- According to this opinion, Jinns are another creation. There are three main creations - Angels, Jinns, and Mankind. There are no fallen Angels. Iblees is from a different species known as the Jinns. Iblees lived among the Angels, worshipped Allah like the Angels, and, in some way, was closer to Angels than mankind. This is the position of Hasan Al-Basri, Fakhr al-Din al-Razi, and many of the non-Sunni scholars. The evidence for this opinion is - 1. The Ayah 50 from Surah Al-Kahf - فَسَجَدُوٓاْ إِلَّآ إِبۡلِيسَ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ فَفَسَقَ عَنۡ أَمۡرِ رَبِّهِۦٓۗ أَفَتَتَّخِذُونَهُۥ وَذُرِّيَّتَهُۥٓ أَوۡلِيَآءَ مِن دُونِي and they prostrated, except for Iblees. He was of the jinn and departed from the command of his Lord. Then will you take him and his descendants as allies other than Me “He was of the Jinn”. They do not agree with the way the people of the first opinion interpreted it. They say that this shows that Jinns are a different creation. 2. In the Qur’an, according to the people of this opinion, the exception in “and they prostrated, except Iblees;” is (إِسْتِثْنى غَيْر مُتَّصِل) - taking something out that was not part of the group. 3. The Angels can never disobey Allah. The fact that Iblees disobeyed Allah indicates that he is not from the Angels. 4. Iblees says in the Qur’an (Surah Al-A’raf, Ayah 12) “you created me from fire”. An authentic Hadith of the Prophet(SAW) states that Jinns are created from Fire, Angels are created from Light, and Mankind is created from clay. Hence, it shows that there are 3 different creations. This ends the summary. Anyone who thinks I have missed some point is welcome to reply but please give the time in the lecture when Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi talked about it so that I can be sure. JazakaAllah Khair

@drfida123

It is possible that Iblees was father of Jinns (prototype) and he was allowed to stay with angels until he transgressed and made arrogance. Adam was also kept in Jannah as long as as he did not made mistake. (Although the arrogance of Iblees and mistake of Adam and subsequent reactions are not comparable). It seems as if every new creation was initially kept in havens as long as Alllah willed. And as the Jinns share some common characteristics with angels (they are invisible and can climb/fly to the skies) so he was living with angels as destined by Allah till the creation of Adam and then both the creations were destined to live on earth. Surah Kahaf Verse 50 also implies that Jinns are progeny of Iblees "when We said to the angels, “Prostrate yourselves before ’Ādam.” So, they prostrated themselves, all of them but Iblīs (Satan). He was of the Jinn, so he rebelled against the command of your Lord. Do you still take him and his progeny as friends instead of Me, while they are enemy to you? Evil is he as substitute (of obedience to Allah) for wrongdoers." (Do you still take him and his progeny as friends). So Jinns are Ibn e Iblees. Just like humans are Ibn e Adam In the above verse,, "He was from Jinn" does not exclude the possibility that he was the father of Jinns Just like Adam was from Ins and yet he is father of Ins And Jibreel from Malaika Response to scholars of 1st opinion 1-As Iblees of privileged to enjoy the company of angels and at the time of prostration, among the trillions and trillions of angels, Iblees was the only Jinn and he was supposed to do what other angels do, so a separate command was not needed and it was understood that amongst the angels if there is single Jinn, he should also prostrate. Moreover, when Allah says in Quran, "When we said to the angels, Prostrate" ........................... It is just to tell us/ narrate the story but in reality Allah simply said (to the audience), "Prostrate" (and not like this = O, Malaika, prostrate). So whoever was there (amongst the angels) was commanded to prostrate. Example: when a teacher is teaching the class, he is not addressing like O, male students, .. O, female students. Rather he is simply teaching. But if has to narrate, then he will say like, I said to the students, ........ 2- In verse 50 if they translate word Jinn as hidden, then the Arabic word "Min" before Jinn was not needed
@Azzarrati
@Azzarrati 2 жыл бұрын
Shaykh then how do understand the word Jinn? If we say names like Adam and Iblees are not necessarily Arabic origin as that time there was no Arabic then why is the word Jinn ( concealed/hidden) is Arabic as their origin is also pre Arabic. Also we cannot say the word Jinn is synonymous to word Shayateen (arabic) as the word Shayateen can be associated to anyone even a human being whereas Jinn are a particular species. Please advice.

But in Surah Kahf verse 50, Allah SWA said Iblis Is from the Jinn. Also, the fact that he was given free will which angels are not granted shows that the Jinn are a separate creation from angels. He defied Allah's command to prostrate before Adam (A.S). And he boasted of being created from fire while angels were created from light. So I'm more inclined to be with the second group that believe that Iblees is not an angel but a Jinn.
@r_elyaqub8214
@r_elyaqub8214 Жыл бұрын
"He was of the Jinn" in Surah Kahf may mean he is from the race of jinns not that he is one from among some existing jinns at that time. I don't know how authentic this is but it's been said the Jinn were placed on earth but they were committing fasaad. So all were destroyed, except Iblees who was pious amongst them. So only him was saved and placed among the Angels. if this is true could it be that he became the father of the jinn after he was accursed, when he was allowed to bear progeny who assist him in leading the children of Adam astray?

I think there is a mistake. Kindly read surah Al Kafi (18), 50. It says Iblis is one of the jinn. Second Iblis is created from smokeless fire while an angel was created from light.
