I have nearly 500 olive trees and some of them are from the time of my great grandfathers time. It's so strange to think that so many years ago they gave fruit to the family and helped them to survive and grow their lives and dreams and I'm part of this today, touching the same tree my dad my grandpa and my great grandfather did. Yes the olive trees are very special, and I hope my son feels this way in the future. Thank you for the video.

It is even more mind boggling when you realise, these trees you mention, go much further back than your great grandparents and forefathers... To other times, civilizations and people occupying what is now your/our land and country! They precede us by centuries... Our duty is to look after these magnificent trees and hand them over when our time comes.

sacred also because it saved many lives (by providing food). In the same way cow is holy in India because it saved many lives by providing milk even when harvests had failed.

The olive trees are all over Ellada but in my opinion some of the best olive oils are produced in Crete.

It's awesome to hear that, keep it up with your job.. I live in Tuscany, italy and in this zone we have olive trees for miles and miles. In my house garden i have more than 200 secular olive trees that were planted here by my ancestors.. One time a big storm has uprooted some trees and my great grandmother's mother used to cry for days because during the war selling olive oil was one of the thing that helped to survive and her family has worked hard for keep alive this trees for centuries and it was like losing a part of her family.. now i'm 19 and when i die i hope that my grandchildren will remember me just by watching an olive tree as i do with my ancestors.. I wish you all the best in this adventure!! 😁

Don't let yourself be deluded...the "people in the video" were all actors. This is sort of the beautiful fantasy version of the lives of real people who are the real farmers of olives. Honest work producing something of value should not be underestimated as a noble thing; but it's no easy romantic and picaresque job like it's presented here. This film was so unrealistic, I thought it was going to end with a plug for some clothing line.

Such olive trees have been planted in our cemeteries and in our fields for hundreds of years. Once when I was young, in 1997 I asked my grandfather who had planted these olive trees, and my grandfather told me that they were not my grandfather's either, maybe his grandfather had grown them. That would be the year 1600. Because my grandfather was born in 1916. And his father was born in 1837 and his father was born in 1776. So in the end the trunk of this tree was so big that the hands of five slaves would be equal to it if they wrapped it around it. I have my own chain installed and everyone is born

Hello there. I hope you enjoy your olive tree as much as i do! They are pretty cld hardy so they should not need any winter protection. For best results grow it in a highly nutritious but very well draining soil. This way water wont stick around its roots in winter which could damage the tree. I would grow it in full sun and allow it plenty of root space! Happy Growing!

Beautiful , just bought a large one to build a table round using scaffold boards. Going to hang a Roseary in it. The table is the centre of the family . Everything happens around or on a table ." Everyone is welcome at my fathers table" there is no tree as special. X
