As soon as I turned 12+ my mother went back to school to become a teacher (to teach other peoples' kids.) So, she and my father worked all day, and then she went to school in the evenings. My brother and I mostly had to care for ourselves at that point, but our teenage years were when we needed our parents the most. I hung out with the wrong kids, got into all sorts of trouble, experienced bullying and navigating puberty with very little guidance or support from my parents. It completely impacted the trajectory of my life and I ended up becoming a teen mom. I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't make the same mistake & be MORE involved with my children when they become tweens/teens because they need you even more, just in a different way. You made a great point in your video about this, and because of my personal experience, I really, really appreciate that!

"Go with the flow"...no pun intended! Lol 😂 I feel this so much...girl mom ×3 and my oldest is 12. Things are changing, for sure...no matter how prepared you think you are, you can't be prepared for it all. But connection before curriculum, I love that! ❤️

My daughters are 15 and 12. We saw huge improvements in behavior when we eliminated all processed food/drink from their diet; we limited total carbs and eat only meat and veg at home. The first week or two was a nightmare during what can only be described as a kind of substance withdrawal. Best thing we ever did! Our daughters now thank us for the lifestyle change and they’re a delight to be around! I know what you’re going thru-it doesn’t have to be that way.

This was such a great video. Thanks for being so transparent. Trying to mentally gear up for these tween years because they'll be here before we know it. I hope I can remember to seek them out, like you said.

I have a 22 year old, 15 year old, 13 year old, 11 year old and almost 9 year old, and its been a ride so far, definitely lots of emotional, hormonal, physical, behavior changes with my 15 and 13 year old but having watched my 22 year old come out the other side of it and knowing how close we are, gives me some hope on the harder parenting teen days 😅. Also myself, my 22 year old, 13 and 11 year old all have our cycles synced, its a fun time of the month at our house 😂

I have two that are going through this emotional/physical transition together and it can be rough! I get a lot of attitude and big emotions over the very smallest thing. My older of the two (12) is struggling the most but its ok we are finishing up a few things over the summer and hope to have a good start in the fall. We generally follow the traditional public school calendar since that is where they started and what their friends are doing. I am just so thankful and happy that they are home trying to deal with these big things :)

We are just a few steps behind you and Emily in the tween stages and I was wondering if you had any good resources that would be helpful for this stage. Anything great for emotional regulation, connection, etc.? I’d love to find some supports as we navigate these choppy waters.

Love the conversations and I’m totally on board with most of this but you gotta be careful to have boundaries around sleep for yourself and your child. Midnight conversations can be lovingly redirected for the next day. You could even ask her what she wants to talk about and write it down and open that discussion up for the next day, but tell her you love talking but it’s time to go to sleep for the night. I’m not saying every late night convo should be avoided if it is really important (like about faith, emotions, friends, secrets, etc) but random topics could be postponed until tomorrow so that everyone is rested and understands it’s time to wind down and sleep. Hope this is not offensive!

@TheWaldockWay Thank you 🙏🏼 I follow you, because my husband and I only have 1 child, our son who is 3 and in preschool, but once he is 5 and starting K5, we are homeschooling. My biggest concern is social opportunities to learn in outside of his father and I.
