Hi! We're Nick and Jen, a retired military veteran of 14 years and professional dancer/entertainer at Coyote Ugly Bar. Together, we decided to sell everything and break free of the glitz, glam and chaos of city life to move off gird. We live on our 20 acres of remote land in the mountains of Southern Utah.
We’re trying to be as self sufficient as possible by installing all our own utilities and doing everything DIY with as much modern technology as can make happen. Living off grid is about the freedom to build our own path one plank at a time. Life, indeed, is Elevated Off Grid. Come along and see what life is like as we continue to build our property and adventure around Southern Utah's mountains.

If you want to make the snow removal even easier, take those bottom boards along the deck off in a few places and reinstall them so they can be lifted out. That would allow you to shove snow right over the edge. Some metal L brackets screwed in side by side to the boards would create a channel to set them in and still look nice. Some rope lights installed under the rail edge would look nice. The stairs are the most important to keep lit at night for safety. Some wall-mounted lights or some puck lights embedded in the treads would work well.

Can I suggest adding some "self-amalgamating tape" over the electrical tape you put on that cable splice. It will make it totally waterproof if you wind it on tightly enough and will never peel over time.

Another great family video. Thanks for sharing. I'm almost 70, and my youngest son is 43. We began cutting each other's hair in 2019, and everyone thinks we go to a barber. Here's a trick on figuring out the freshness of eggs. Place your egg in a glass or bowl filled with cold water. If the egg sinks to the bottom it’s very fresh and should be good to use. If the egg stands up on its end or even floats slightly, it’s a little past peak freshness but should still be edible. I probably wouldn’t cook it sunny side up,

Think the idea of an Outhouse would be great, let’s your Mature Family/Friends enjoy visiting you. Oh I said Mature as I’m 76 and we have never used the word “Old” in our home here in the UK 🇬🇧 Sure been busy whilst the children are away, Wood Shed will be an awesome to store your chopped wood in one place. Agree Nick you look 10 years younger with the new hair cut. Loved the insight into your family life on Mothers Day. Loving watching you both and how you get on with those chores. Hi Nick and Jen! You made good progress clearing out and stacking last winters left over wood in the new fire wood shed. It can be so satisfying to clear out a mess and relocate it like that because it's instant gratificaiton. Exciting that you'll be starting on the concrete floor in the garage. Once that is all cleaned out, graded and set with rebar it will be a blessing for you. As for Nick's buzz cut; I have cut my own hair, every 2 - 3 weeks, just like that for years now. I just stand over the trash can outside and it only takes a few minutes and I've saved a lot of money over the years. The out house might be a good project. The question is, how ofter would it actually be used and would the older family members really want to use it in the summer months. Have a great week and I look forward to your next video. Larry, Central Valley, Ca.

If you want to improve that trailer, weld some 2x-sized metal channels. This way you can drop in some staves and screw on some panels to raise the sides. When this is done get some heavy straps and loop them around the inside of the trailer bed. That way when you go to unload the wood you only need to hook the straps to the tractor and pull the load off in one go.

On outhouse near your laundry area so it's all together would be great. A bit late now, but putting a divider in the wood shed (making it 3 bays) may have allowed for storage of timber for now, ready in about 18 months and the oak you want to get. Good to see you had a great time with the family.

Nick, something you should know about wiring 12V Dc connections, 1st if using crimp connections, always use die electric grease, keeps the connections from corroding, and 2nd, there's a new kid in town. There is now butt connectors that solder with a little heat. Heat gun, torch, or even a Bic lighter, and the heat shrink the ends of the connector o you also have a water tight seal. I picked myself up a decent selection of them off of EBAY. Finding eggs, a good thing, but, you need to KNOW, they are good. simple put the egg into a glass of water, if it goes to the bottom, it's good. If it floats halfway up, bad, full float, bad, barely dancing on the bottom, use it first. To measure a cord, 4'wide, X4' high X 8' long.

5jen, you are correct it is excellent compostable material use it for such, add egg shells, coffee grounds, and scraps to get it going, chicken poop if you have some. You will end up with large worms for the young ones to fish with and your soil will improve for it as well. A grinder and paint will make you the welder you ain’t,, not to worry, I’m worse at welding, so you are not the worst welder.

Watching you backblade the snow last year was tough to watch. You should try to find a cheap plow truck, with a plow. Even onecwith a blown engine would be fine. Then, find a destroyed set of forks or a bucket to use as the mount. Your bucket hydraulic hoses should work to control it.

Great Videos. I've been watching since you started the Garage/Home build and will be using some of your ideas down the road. As a resident of Muskoka Ontario Canada and using wood every winter to heat my home, I would suggest perhaps placing a divider in that woodshed and using 1/3 of it for your hardwood which you would only burn at night to last the whole night. Wood sourcing is always fun and a ton of work. I think the outhouse idea is good, but maybe think about a spot to wash hands afterwards, maybe a rain catch for water with a tap. Keep up the great work. Cheers!
