Our reaction to a great artist named Yebba, who has been requested so we decided to check her out. This is her live performance in SoFar (Songs From A Room) in New York.

I read somewhere the audience had been asked to be very quiet as they were taping. Hopefully after they ended the taping she got her appreciation! Can you imagine how stunning that must have been in person?

The point she was making with that line is (to me) “I’m not the one who is giving this up. You are. She (the other woman) can’t take away what I am GIVING away. I’m not gonna leave...but YOU WILL! She doesn’t want him after that but she is telling him he won’t be the one who comes out on top.

The way I understood that line she‘s saying that she won‘t stay physically and just continue being in the relationship but she sure as hell won‘t leave meaning she won‘t be able to move on, she‘ll always be stuck in that mental/emotional space and she‘ll also be engraved in his soul, almost haunting him and being haunted by him.. but hey thats just my interpretation 🤷🏽‍♀️

I can see a few different interpretations. IMO, the two most likely are yours, and: If this song “takes place” all in one sitting (the night she found out), then this could simply be going back and forth in the heat of the moment of her thinking and pain.

@@yabsrazelalem3077 I agree, partially, but I took as she's leaving physically, but he'll never be able to forget her, so she'll stay in HIS mind (instead of him staying in hers). So the other girl won't take him away, because he'll always be thinking her her.

Yebba is absolutely incredible! Ever since I heard her voice, I can't get enough. So much honesty, purity and soul. What that line meant to me was that she could never stay with him after what he had done but the memory and presence of her would never leave him even after she physically left him, as in haunt him in a way by losing her because she is so special

At 2.30 I hear something African and ancient in her voice, also in other places in the song... in the song with Mark Ronson I hear an arabic run. Soooo much gospel there too. A magical voice💕👏👏👏👏👏😪

YEBBA IS QUEEN 🙌 I am so happy to see this reaction and I loved your commentary. She really takes you on an emotional journey! "My Mind" is one of my favorite songs ever, because the delivery is so raw and passionate, and her vocal control is impeccable. I must have listened to it hundreds of times and it still gives me chills. I highly recommend her collabs "Smoke" with Luke Levenson, "Gravity" with Clark Beckham, and "How Deep is Your Love" with PJ Morton. Also her original single "Evergreen" which is written about her late mother. She is a new artist and doesn't have a lot of material out there yet, but she deserves ALL the accolades!

I would just like to add that this video was filmed shortly after her mother commit suicide. So she is this song with so much emotion towards her mother.

raf ch no she wasn’t, this song was written long before that. This performance however, was a week after her mother’s suicide

This is her first song that she wrote and performed. The saddest part is that two weeks after this live performance her mother committed suicide. Then she wrote recorded "Evergreen" in honor of her mother's;s memory. BTW she gave away this song for free after her mother's suicide.

My take away from this song is that she left him physically, but she will never get over him and he will always be hers in her mind. In other words, she lost her mind.

@raf ch , The song is about the "psychiatric problems" of a lover that can't accept the loss of a partner because of his cheating on her. I'm aware that Abbeys mother committed suicide in real life, but I have not seen anything that suggests this is what actually happened to cause her mother to do what she did. No doubt Abbey has a well of emotions to dip into when she wants to convey pain to her listeners, but I doubt the song is a direct story about her mother's situation.

Her mother died by suicide roughly a week before this was recorded. She's so fuckin strong and she sang out all the emotions. Love her and y'all ❤
