Aleksandrs Samoilovs receives yellow card for emotions, and later gets red card for commenting setting judgement on set point.
Personal red cards results in fines for players in pro tour.

Whether or not his celebration was unreasonable is subjective. The fact is, you can't keep on talking back to a ref in beach volleyball. If you do, you know what to expect.

Frankly, I'm surprised how many people here in the comments believe he got the yellow card for celebrating. He didn't get the yellow card for celebrating. He got the yellow card for continuing to discuss/argue the point and especially for not approaching the ref when she whistled and motioned for him to do so. Textbook yellow card, really.

Not sure it is against the rules, but I would say one should show the dominance by the actual sport performance, not by screaming like a psycho. This is obviously not just a point celebration.

Samoilov has had many great moments on the court in his career. This was not one of them. The "stealing money from my kids" part was just ridiculous

I ve never seen such impolite person in volleyball. He should be fired for ever of the FIVB world wide organisation. I would not accept such person as referee... We don't play football !!!

No rude behaviour required to get the red card, when you already had a warning by yellow card before. Minor misconduct was sufficient to show the red card.

He didn’t display unsportsmanlike conduct to begin with! Ref is being silly, he celebrated his point away from the net. No profanity no trash talking no news for cards

This exactly. It's a sport, the players should be allowed to celebrate a good play with some emotion as long as they aren't disrespecting their opponent. This isn't chess where everybody is expected to be quiet.

@@IAmTheGreatestThrillboth of you missed the reason for the yellow card. the ref didn't give him a yellow because he was emotional. she called him over to talk to him and tell him to bring it down a notch. That's a judgement call. His first reaction after winning the point was fine, but then he took 1-2 steps and another breath and yelled again. THAT was judged to be too much. So, she gave him a verbal warning. He backed away and continued to discuss the point. That's when the yellow was warranted and she whistled for him to approach her. He only took one step towards her and continued to argue. She blew the whistle a second time and motioned again for him to approach. He still didn't come to the referee. Yellow card: warranted. Then, after losing the point at 21-21, with the other team serving for set point, he made some gestures (only one visible in the video) that were again disrespecting the ref. So, after yellow comes red. He lost the set because he couldn't keep control of his emotions. I'm sure his partner was thrilled with that.

@@DavidNitzscheBell His partner is his younger brother, I guess they both share the same emotions, but it was a heated game for sure. The ref made some emotional calls as well with the cards.

Man. There should be a solid reason to show a red card on the last point. Ref should not follow the book strictly but work in context. Sad

Dudes been around for a long time but he's not above all. Maybe calling him the lion king made his head too big after all we're all humans . Lead by example and learn to accept. The way players treat referees in volleyball is just ridiculous, this has to change

Come on... the ref did provoke that to a bigger degree. I am fundamentally with you. Everyone should treat each other with respect. But that call at that situation is... bad.

@@bertramstier2540 she didn't provoke him at all. after the point, she asked him to tone it down a bit. He argued and disrespected the ref by not approaching when she called him. That's a textbook yellow card.

@@DavidNitzscheBellit rolled up fast, but: one can play emotionally. the ref gave a warning "you have to settle it down" which makes little sense, so he asked "why?". after this point the ref was right - Aleksandrs was asking uhmm "too persistent for a vlb match", so the card is ok. but why a referee would interfere the game like that in the first place? they should not give that first warning at all, it was unreasonable: the hit was cool, why not celebrate it? if I'm not mistake, the best referee - is one who doesn't make the show, and let the players to show their talent. i preferred to see the game, not cards.

There´s celebrating and then there´s screaming like a mental maniac. He could have got off with a warning but he kept pushing. As a pro player that´s been around a while he should have handled that differently. Screaming "you're taking money from my kids" made him look even more unhinged.

@@anthonysantos3021 He's over the top with his screaming. The judge has a right to warn him. As a pro player he should know better than to argue. Take the warning and move on but instead he starts arguing which leads to his first yellow. I don't agree with the red but I think both he and the judge handled it poorly.

we go to watch players play and often enjoy passionate emotions. if it doesn't spill over to insulting or harassing the other team there shouldn't be a yellow or red card. we don't go to watch the refs keep player emotions in check. you can tell the ref is having a bad day when the down ref comes over to hold the up refs hand. there was no logical ruling it was an emotional ref who broke down when challenged by Samoilovs. if a ref needs a cry during the match because the player yelled at them, they shouldn't be a ref.

LOL, big mistake of the ref!! Alex is always polite! He did not celebrate! He was loosing so he tried to turn on himself and his partner. Red card on the last point with NO reason! Ridiculous

Disagree. The ref was spot on. If you tell a player repeatedly to come to you and he doesn't, or takes his time, or continues to argue while only approaching a little bit, that is disrepecting the referee and ABSOLUTELY deserves a red card coming after the yellow card earlier. That's just the rules: verbal warning, Yellow card, red card, And either he knows the rules and chose to ignore them (bad idea) or he doesn't know the rules, which is just his fault, not the ref's. "You're taking money from my children!" Seriously?! Awww, poor boy. Then stop complaining and play the match.

Emancipated women were offended...poor her..than go and resign, quit your job if you cannot separate emotional sport where you work and without emotions beach volleyball cannot exist. Thats the beauty of it. I hope they will fire her and put a normal adequate referee. If you remember how emotionals are brazilian players, how rood was The Professor when he played match in Poland and lady referee made a call on his hand set: who put this chick there, she is su@^@^s!!! Or ex olympians German team 2012 London when in one of the matches German player said to ref: " I will ruine your life".

Ah, and you don't think that it's because of these players that rules were changed? Players bad behavior and large breaks due to "fake" mediacals didn't work well for TV.
