I don´t think they will ever confirm anything supernatural. Its just psychology. I don't think there is something supernatural, people just create these bullshits in their head and society structures under some circumstances naturally. And director wants to manipulate you and your imagination, like in The Lost. On the other side the show is kinda too much, its not very natural. I do rate it 7/10, there were good parts but a lot of bullshit. There are better psycho-drama or survival shows.

@@Aggoenix to each their own I suppose, I enjoy this show a lot, and found none of it to be bullshit. But that’s the beauty of this golden age of streaming shows. I believe the entire closing premise of Lost was supernatural (is that what you mean by The Lost, or is there another show or movie by that name?).

aside from Lottie's visions, spontaneous combustion of the teddy bear on the plane seemed supernatural. Taissa starting to sleepwalk and munch on soil and Shauna becoming more OK with blood and gore after they started sleeping in the attic the same night after the seance also looks supernatural.

Nora, I think you’re spot on, and I’m thinking exactly the same thing. To me it would actually cheapen the show to include a canon supernatural element to blame everything on, rather than have their experiences be explained by collective trauma and meaning-making of extraordinary circumstances. I think it’s far more interesting to see how being put in this life or death scenario can lead to supernatural beliefs, as opposed to all of this be due to some kind of forest magic. The psychology of this cult formulation is fascinating enough, and more interesting if it ISN’T real, at least in my opinion.

That one hit me because I initially thought Shaunas dream when she went to get Jackie and brought her inside was real at first. Shaunas scream was heart wrenching when she found Jackie frozen to death. (death from lower body temps)

The actors playing the kid versions of Shauna, Misty and Natalie (in particular) were bloody brilliant.

Also tais reaction to Shauna was great, the way the writers have her go directly to comfort her

Poor Coach Ben was stranded with a dozen+ teen girls. He'd probably had his fill of trying to "make" any of them do what he said. Who knows, maybe he thought to himself, "fine, it'll be that much quieter up in here if one of them sleeps outside".

He tried. And i think he senses that these girls might kill his ass if he pushes too hard against them.

Also because she felt like she can boss Shawna around like that! Shawna is my favorite character as well and although I do like Jackie I realized early on Jackie was just a character to build on shawna's character yes she slept with Jeff but Jackie even admitted it herself she didn't like him and I have a feeling she felt like Shawna had an attraction to him but stayed with him because of this like everything she did was to belittle Shawna so go Shawna she finally stuck up for herself!

I myself do not hate her and started watching reviews etc as to not spoil anything. I just finished Episode 10 and went back to watch Ep #1 and it is much different now. When Shauna picks up Jackie they talked about Jeff. Shauna says "Havent yall broke up like 1000 times?" Not sure how Shauna and Jeff ended up hooking up but she kne wthe Jackie did not care about Jeff. And after all of this finding out that Jeff if to be believed was indeed NOT cheating on Shauna and genuinely loves Shauna. Also he was about to take the fall for her. True Love indeed. Also with time we get to see Jackie for who she is.

At first, I wondered if I was siding with Shauna because I love Melanie Lynskey, but quickly discovered that I like her character. So many people love Misty and are willing to overlook her behaviors, yet they attack Shauna for sleeping with Jeff as a teenager. It make no sense! Misty abused elederly patients! How is sleeping with your friend's on-again off-again boyfriend as a teen worse than abusing the elderly? How is cheating on your husband when you are vulnerable and deeply hurt worse than abusing the elderly? As for Adam, her trauma brain and instincts took over when she thought he was out to get her and her family. Misty kidnapped and killed a woman who was just asking question. (I like Misty, too, but she is a much worse person than Shauna.)

I had no idea people dislike Shauna until I watched this. I really like her! can't understand why anyone wouldn't 🤷

i hated shauna, i wanted to like her because i agree about that sadness(but thats because of the actor) the character does some of the worst things in the show and is just too sneaky. jackie was pretty normal and neutral for me.

This is also likely the power of suggestion. The girls are young, traumatized, and starved with anxieties and delusions creeping in. Plus, Lottie is all out of whatever antipsychotic medication she was taking at the start of the show. The carving may have been innocent enough from a previous visitor to the woods, but the girls in their heightened and desperate state now see it and think they have to honor it or that it is a sinister force. It becomes a symbol of some higher power, but it inherently does not necessarily possess these supernatural attributes or identities. Lottie, Van, and Misty offering the bear’s heart to the tree trunk as some sort of sacrifice is the beginning of this adoption of the symbol as something supernatural, religious, or cultish. Lottie thinks she’s being given these visions from a force and if her sacrifices are reinforced by good fortune (eg, food, shelter, or other resources) she will only grow in her faith of this entity. That doesn’t mean it’s real, only that she believes it’s real. She believed the bear was brought to her by the forest and that she had to kill it and sacrifice it to assure future good fortune. It’s like when people wear a specific pair of socks when their team is in the playoff. Those “lucky socks” aren’t magical - they’re just socks. But if someone thinks that their wearing of the socks makes their team have good luck or favor from some entity, then they make those socks an icon of good fortune. The symbol was there, but it didn’t necessarily mean anything. I think the show is toying with the idea of fanaticism and trying to challenge belief structures that only go surface deep. Praying to an entity that your team wins a big game or sacrificing a bear heart so you can live another day… it’s the same thing. It’s bargaining with an unseen and unknown entity with the hopes of good fortune shining on you. If it doesn’t work, then you’re forced to take more drastic action to appease the entity - eg, cannibalism like we saw in the premier. So the slope from being so hungry that you eat worms to eventually sacrificing your friends (or the family dog) to appease the entity and turn requests towards your favor… it’s more extreme than receiving bread and wine and praying in church, but it’s the same concept.

If I remember correctly she was very tam and shy while on her meds, but by the finale she's taken on this savage persona as almost a leader/ - her visions realizing they come true and everyone starts believing and following undoubtedly. Van stats there's something out there confirms she's a believer. I mean no one stood up for Jackie... Not one person. It's clear the cult has already started I don't think they will split up I think they will just start killing off whoever Lottie wants leading and catching up to the last victim who didnt want to submit and join them being killed by their trap in the pilot opening scene...

By the point that the camera showed the symbol in the tree in that episode, Misty had already been shown with the axe btw. So it could’ve been her.

I look at it as they represent the useless parts of teenage girls- delicate cutesiness, obsession with image, just belief that their desires are super important and will work out. There was no possible way Laura Lee could have safely landed that plane somewhere, she didn't even have a backup plan with a note or directions to the girls in case the plane was found but she didn't make it alive. I just wish Jackie's death was season 2- thought she was the pit girl.

the writers have said in an interview that jessica is definitely dead. she put fent in her cigarette, i think it's a pretty clear indication of murder.

No she definitely intended to kill Jessica. There was even foreshadowing where she talked about how easily you could kill someone with I forget if it was fentanyl or what, but it will show up as an overdose. However not too many people overdose while driving, however I doubt the show is thinking that hard over it. But Missy would be stupid to do anything other than kill her after she had her chained up. Whether she was indeed a fixer or not, Missy would be screwed either way.

I think people vastly underestimate the dangers of exposure and hypothermia. One symptom of hypothermia is completely irrational behavior. One of my first aid teachers told us about how he used to be part of search and rescue up at the ski lodge. They'd find people ripping off their clothes and wandering around naked in the snow because they were suffering from hypothermia and "It's too hot out here!" Not to mention, dozens of homeless people die each winter from freezing to death in the middle of civilization and not out in the woods. I think the main takeaway from the dream/dying vision is Jackie felt like she was going back inside for a hot cup of cocoa and a place by the fire. Her last moments alive were her experiencing hypothermia as she froze to death, causing her to hallucinate and acting on those hallucinations by staying outside.

It was never going to be The Wire or Sopranos but it's still a great show. Some of the questions you have could still be answered going forward. Like I said it may not be a masterpiece but it's really good and a lot of fun. A combination of good writing and great acting.

Bear ate Javi in the middle of the night. Bear is full... fell ill/ ate too much... hence why it approached the girls slow, full, and maybe sickly. They killed the bear, ate parts of the bear, and in turn, ate parts of Javi. It's snowing outside, so it might be cold enough to store the uneaten parts of the bear outside to preserve it. They will eventually find the RING that belonged to Travis' and Javi's dad... the one Nat recovered from the dead body. Travis gave it Javi to comfort him. They will eventually find the ring within the dead bear.

@@mickyhouse8753 well… if she’s working with Lotti, and the cult (hence the ritual candle placement in the shape of the symbol) then why would it not be plausible that Lotti would accept Travis’s bank account as payment for paying off the coroner and police to either: Not mark the same cut marks as the autopsy; or, Pay the coroner to give them his heart post autopsy.

OMG... an amazing theory. And they will find the RING that Travis gave Javi at some point. That bear will feed them for a while, especially if it's so cold now that it's snowing, they could maybe store some of the meat/ body outside for later eating. In an earlier episode, Nat cut the finger off of Travis' dad to get the ring... gave it to Travis... then Travis gave it to Javi to comfort him.
