we could build dams on that river and control its flow, but that would be in a national park so we don't. humans really aren't totally at nature's mercy, only a little bit if that.

@@Tensolin01 the spirit of the report was correct, there was flooding from redlodge to yellowstone, but they were just sloppy in labeling it. If anything it was worse than they made it sound, it affected so much more than yellowstone. It's over a hundred miles taking a northern route from red lodge to yellowstone and there was lots of flooding all along those areas.

Water flows in a path of the least resistance. Engineers would be able to turn all of the video into a foot-print and redesign towns and communities along the river that would sustain an epic flood. The problem is-locals have a mindset to "rebuild" the existing instead of creating something better. Working with the river makes more sense, but working within the river makes more dollars. Somewhere in the middle is "flood insurance"- a way to keep almost everyone happy.

@@alansach8437 Actually he didn't say anything about major dams. He specifically claimed Yellowstone is the last major undammed river, meaning that it is the last major river without dams. I know this is untrue because I grew up 16 miles south of Intake, MT. Intake is famous as one of the few locations in the world where you can catch Paddlefish, because of the dam on the river that stops the fish's migration upstream. That dam has now been updated to provide a safe passage for the migrating Paddlefish to continue its journey deeper into Montana.

Yellowstone is the longest undamed river in the United States, not the only one. It depends on your definition of "major river" whether or not it is the last major river undamed.
