When John Dutton (Kevin Costner) isn't busy leading the ranch, he's busy being the patriarch of the Dutton family. Guiding Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly), Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes), Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley), Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), Tate Dutton (Brecken Merrill), and the rest of the Dutton Ranch to success. Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds, and hard-earned respect, Dutton's property is in constant conflict with those it borders -- an expanding town, an Indian reservation, and America's first national park.

I love the moments between John and his grandson. It’s like he has discovered how to talk and react to kids but is still learning how to do so with his own grown up kids.

It's an intentional theme through the show. It's a redemption Arc for John. Remember this was the grandson he demanded be aborted, and Casey earned the brand for disobeying that demand. He's trying to right that wrong.

Quite ironic that the one he loves the most after his late wife is Tate, at the moment his one and only heir after all the Duttons are gone. If Kayce didn't refuse his command to have Tate aborted when Monica got pregnant, he would be left with no biological heir.

Season 4 was a disappointment. It started out strong with that 15-minute opening that pretty much concluded what Season 4 ended on, then it just slowed the breaks and repeated a bunch of things from the previous seasons. It felt like they were stalling to make sure they don't progress the story too much, just to ensure more seasons can happen.
