Yellowstone National Park in the winter is one of the most beautiful places on earth, and I was lucky enough to experience it this past January.
We were invited to Yellowstone for a weekend adventure by Explore Better; a travel company that runs tours and lodging in Yellowstone National Park (and other National Parks).
We stayed at the Explorer Cabins in West Yellowstone, and made this our jumping off point into Yellowstone National Park. West Yellowstone is a small cozy town focused on Yellowstone Tours and accommodations, but it also has great restaurants and things to do outside of Yellowstone.
One of those very popular things to do in West Yellowstone is rent snowmobiles (Yellowstone Vacations) and tour the incredible snowmobiling trails outside the park.
All kitted out by Yellowstone Vacations, we attempt to tackle Two Top Trail; A popular 30 mile loop that crosses into Idaho, with a 2,000-foot elevation gain and plenty of open space to take it all in.
Now, the absolute best part about coming to Yellowstone in the winter is that you get a fraction of the visitors; We’re talking hundreds versus millions.
The Yellowstone roads are all closed off to private cars, so you have to get round by tour bus or snowmobile. And let me tell you, this is the way to go.
We don’t have a set plan this morning, the only thing that was time sensitive was getting to Old Faithful in time before she blew, and it was a race to make it happen. Did you know there was once an estimated 60 million bison roaming free across the Great Plains.
With a demand for conquering the west after the Civil War in 1865, the great slaughter began and by 1889, only some 500 bison remained alive in the United States. Most of these were in zoos, private refuges and here at Yellowstone.
Long, heartbreaking story short, laws were finally passed to protect them right at the edge of extinction. Today, there’s about 5,000 bison alive and roaming in Yellowstone, far from abundance they once knew, but the population is stable.Which makes seeing them in real life like this very special.
In the afternoon, we cover as much ground as possible. Searching high and low for wildlife, and taking in this majestic landscape of Yellowstone National Park!
White mountains are lined with snow-covered pine trees with ice blue rivers cutting through the valley and smoke rising from the geothermal activity below. Swans, geese and eagles soar ahead and herds of bison push through snowfall to graze along the valley.
The Nation’s oldest National Park, all of her 2.2 million acres, is truly incredible and I have only just begun to scratch the surface. You will most definitely see me back here again soon.

EGYPT IS NEXT!! ❤In the meantime, I would love your thoughts/opinions about this new format. My goal is to make shorter, more engaging videos that mix in information, storytelling, and some candid outtakes from life on the road. What do you guys think? 😅Also, if you have any suggestions for Egypt; please send me a message via IG @TravelDeeper

Bi-sen... nailed it! Always wanted to go to Yellowstone and you just made it even more intriguing. Aside from your SUV getting stuck, looks like you guys had a blast. The snowmobiles look just too fun. And the natural beauty of this national gem is quite stunning. Bison balls are not testicles, what a relief!

This is amazing, Gareth! The place you stayed at looks amazing, and the park itself looks like such a fun place to explore. Old Faithful, the geothermal pools, and the wildlife would be huge draws for me. And the food you had looked incredible, especially the bison queso. lol when you asked if the balls were testicles 😂

Stunning Gareth! Loved the snowmobiling! Remember going to Yellowstone when I was a kid and seeing a bear! 🐻 Definitely need to make it back. By the way, I like the new format but don’t mind the old. For me, I just like learning about hidden gems when you travel, love how you showcase the beauty of nature and also enjoy the locals that you meet. Your videos have a news quality, an educational aspect too and could be a feature on a network program. 😊

Gareth ah yes locked out of the hotel room. After traveling every week for 20 years I recognize the walk of shame headed to the front desk for another room key. However the jump with a heel click on the way was a great addition. Great video Yellowstone National Park is on my bucket 🪣 list.

Oh my goodness. What a beautiful video. I went there when I was a little girl with my grandparents and when you showed Old Faithful erupting? Brought tears to my eyes with fond and loving memories of that time with them. Thank you and I really hope you go back and show more. We stayed in a small one room cabin and the Bears were outside and all around ruffling through all the cabins trash cans. Scary but memorable. Can't wait for all your videos. I watch them all. Take care and stay safe.
