When I started to watch the show I saw I had two options, either I could be angry and sad because this is not the Yen from the books and never enjoy the full show, or I could embrase the fact that this is the shows version of Yennefer and have a good time. I choose the second option, I would suggest you to do the same

Don't you think they made her a horrible person in this show? In the books she's bitchy, but never seen her betray loved ones for power. Here she doesn't care about anyone, she just uses people like tools and doesn't care if they are hurt or die. She also blames others for her own choices. And I don't think that's what I'd call a strong person. Does tough childhood justify hurting people? If so, I guess we should see Geralt do the same since his wasn't any easier.

@@kuba6156 You're clearly watching a different show. While she does have a tough shell, that's because of all the very real trauma she has gone through. And yet, she does care about the few people she allows to get close to her, Geralt, Triss, even Tissaia. Who exactly did she hurt or kill, other than in a battle situation (aka people who had it coming)?

@@luminousmoon86 OK, let's start then... Before that, just note that I wrote that she DOESN'T CARE IF someone gets hurt or dies, not that she kills someone. So: 1. Attacking her fellow adept because she did better job with catching lightning. (hurting her) 2. Cooperating with changing adepts into eels. (one of the dumbest things in this show, making the mages evil human beings, probably worse than just killing those adepts) 3. Betraying Istred for position, giving away his secret, but only not being able to forgive him that he betrayed her too. (hypocrite) 4. Magicaly forcing many people to partake in an orgy. (You could say she used kind of magical rape pill) 5. Using spell on Geralt to take revenge for her (djinn episode), ending up with him being in a cell and going to die for that. (she didn't even care about him, in the books was going to save him. if he didn't escape he would be sentenced to death because of her using him as a tool. how about that? did she care? did she try to help him? did she at least say sorry? No, no and no...) Other things, constantly blaming others for everything that happens to her. - deciding to trade motherhood for external beauty (again no such thing in the books), then blaming "them" for "taking it away from her" - blaming Geralt for controlling her (talking about him saving her with his wish from being killed by the djinn) BTW. Geralt also had "very real trauma" after all he got through (left by his mother, witcher mutations that almost killed him etc). And he tends to act like a decent human being... Even though I must say they also changed him for the worse.

@@kuba6156 she is a human and never intended to be a saint or hero. any human being is selfish when he wants something and so he did when he reached his goal without minding the means but it is not my concept of morale that is leveled down but I think you can get an idea of ​​gray in a very light shade (not to mention white)

Overshadow cause Geralt seems to have some moral code while she's a power hungry thug betraying and hurting everyone to get what she wants? If she was the same in the books I can't see how Geralt would even want to be with her...

@@kuba6156 Disclaimer: I am only commenting on the show, not the books or video game. by overshadowing they mean character arc wise. right now yennefer has a strong character arc that is very compelling to people who have only seen the tv show. her journey from being perceived as weak to strong as well as her finding out that she doesn't want power but to be important to someone is relateable. her moral code also seems to be evolving through the show. geralt has potential but we haven't seen much of his character arc yet, but yennefer has undergone an entire transformation in 1 season. because we saw yennefer grow as a character into who she is now, the audience has grown attached to her. i am curious to see the character development for geralt in the future bc he does have a lot of potential to be more than what we see rn.

@@isabellagathers6839 I'm just really surprised how many people are cheering for a bad person only because she/he happened to have a bad childhood. For me Yennefer in the books wasn't even half as evil as she is in the show. In the show she's hurting people just for fun, betraying everyone, acting out when something isn't as she wanted and so on, the list is just too long. And you would think that a big part of the books is about morality and making the right choices. Yes, she's starting to change closer to the end and thank God for that... Cause I would completely hate her. Still, she tends to blame everyone else for her decissions. Everyone but herself. As for Geralt, I guess we won't see too much of his developement since Mrs Lauren isn't too interested in him. She said since the start that she wants to show the stories of "strong women". As you noticed we didn't see too much of him and it's not a coincidence. Comparing to the books he was made less important in every story told in the show.

That’s the thing about Yen, the author wanted her unlikable to begin with. All great character arcs start that way.

Since she did not manage to save the baby she regrets the choice she made to become beautiful, and she wants to become fertile again it is contradictory can be a little cliché and easy but its makes the character even more human. as she says "i dreamed of becoming important to someone someday" yes there are Geralt but given her traumatic childhood she wants to give the love she never had to a child. Sometimes we regret the choices we make and want to go back and it's relatable.

@@kuba6156 slow down there bud. I am a feminist but it doesn't mean I think it's unfeminist to want to be a mother. It's not negative and doesnt make a woman less "worthy" or anything like that. It's ridiculous how some people think this way. Being a mother is her own choice and desire and all props to her for that. It's absolutely not "dislikable" for a woman to want a child, what the fuck? I was talking about her fictional character in this fictional show and how I would rather the writers made her focus on magic and power rather than family. Some people are just so ridiculously fast to make assumptions. I call myself a feminist because I believe that women should have the power to make their own choices and not be forced. Yennefer chooses to be a mom and that's only positive. I just wish her character didn't focus on it for the sake of storytelling

I got used to her old look at the end of episode 2 But I think she wouldn't had enough self esteem to be so badass with her old look And this spine would not be so helpful (looks very painfull)
