This song is titled "Michigan" and was written by Tom Anthony and Gavin Spencer. In summer 1986 the video received the National Council of State Travel Directors' top award for "creative achievement in film" (Lansing State Journal, 6-11-86 and 8-17-86).

I AM FROM MICHIGAN, AND HAVEN'T BEEN THERE SINCE APRIL 1997!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BUT I REMEMBER THIS SONG FROM BACK IN THE 1980S, WHEN I WAS SPENDING A LOT OF TIME IN TRAVERSE CITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I grew up in northern Wisconsin; we had WKBD-TV 50 Detroit on our cable system, and every summer in the early 1980s I could count on seeing three commercials in heavy rotation: 1) "Yours to Discover" Ontario tourism, 2) Kings Island 3) Yes Michigan!... also Fretter Appliance. "You're entering the Fretter Zone!" ;)

Do you guys remember “The magic Pan” and “Major Magics”? Two restaurants that are now long gone 😕 but I have so many memories of growing up in Michigan in the 80’s. It was a beautiful place at a beautiful time and this song and video really embodies it ❤️…and I remember the “Fretter is better” commercials lol.

You graduated from Ohio State three times!? 😳 That’s a lot of school! I’m from Michigan lifelong Wolverine fan and as you know most of us in Michigan aren’t very fond of your school 😂. But it’s ok! As a kid growing up in Detroit in the 80’s I had a t-shirt that said “Oh how I hate Ohio State” 🤣

For good reason!! They did such a good job it made you feel like being in the Michigan in the 80’s was the place to BE! And it really was. What a great childhood I had growing up there. Skiing at Mt. Holly in the winter, going to a lake house in Lake St. Clair in the summer. Going to visit my Grandparents in Grosse Pointe and that gorgeous view of the Yacht house. The Lions, Pistons, Tigers, Red Wings we’re all on fire and in their prime. So many memories. The feeling really is forever ❤️

My dad took us camping to Iron Mountain after this commercial where it snowed heavy our second night. I moved South, but after 30 years that visit stuck with me so much that I am moving up back.

Whitmer has backing of all republicans and democrates- they say it is just a waste of money, yet tourism brings in the most money for us. The defunding of Pure Michigan spells the ending of Michigan and we will just continue a downward spiral
