Excellent documentary. One could be forgiven for thinking it was filmed only last week.

Wrong. The Civil Service has been completely neutered and there are no discussions, no resistence and no checks or balances. Nothing stands between the electorate and their sponsors and whatever insane, destructive and/or immoral thing they want to do... It's precisely why the British way of life is disappearing faster than an immigrant slips the net at Calais.

I love how Bernard stays in place looking back and forth. With very little script for him to talk, but I would love to be with these 2 giants of Actors. I cannot get enough of intellectual conversation, especially the humor

It's the Civil Service that runs the country, NOT the government, and it doesn't matter who's in power because the Civil Service remains the same, day after day making sure that things carry on and don't descend into chaos. Certainly, it *does* waste money, but it's efficient in that it could employ five times as many people for little gain, and in terms of government spending the amount it wastes is peanuts. *Politicians* are the real culprits, constantly changing policies and priorities which force costly upheavals - the "activity" that Sir Humphrey spoke about.

I always had a slight feeling that Neil Fitzwiliam (as brilliant as he my be in musical productions) was a bit miscast for the role. I think he was gone by series two. Didn't distract from the brilliance of the rest of the episode though! just a minor opinion, nothing to get the gnashers into!
@jonathancampbell52319 ай бұрын
The writers felt his role was superfluous and had trouble writing the character, so they wrote him out in the final episode of season 1.
