The first time I heard this song I was totally mesmerized by the acoustic piece at the end. I must have replayed it at least twenty times until I had memorized it. 45 years later, I always have to listen to the ending over and over again. Then I have to go wash my face so no one can see the tears. Roan and his lady will live forever.

Yay! So few people have reacted to this. It really is one of their hidden gems. It makes my top 10 favorite pieces of music by them. It's a true masterpiece. The ending part leads right into the next song, 'Parallels'. Much of their music was made to listen to the entire album side, as was the case with most groups. This was a very nice reaction by you.

You loving this song was a given having seen your reaction to 'And You and I' and 'Awaken'. I'm so glad you indulged us, we won't let you down. Two more Yes songs you will love are: 'To Be Over' and 'Wonderous Stories'. Enjoy 😊 In 1974, Jon Anderson left Yes and created a concept album called 'Olias of Sunhillow'. The entire album is 45 mins long and you should react to the whole album in one go as it is a story and the songs flow one to the other. Jon plays every instrument, even those he had no idea how to play, and is every voice that you hear and all with analogue tape. It is a one man masterpiece. Understanding now what moves you in music I know it is a journey you will treasure to hear. We would love to share that journey with you Cynthia 😊

Realising a form out of stone, Set hands moving. Roan shaped his heart, Through his working hands. Worked to mold his passion into clay, Like the sun. In his room, his lady, She would dance and sing so completely. "So be still," he now cries, "I have time, oh let clay transform thee so." In the deep cold of night, Winter calls, he cries "Don't deny me!" For his lady, deep her illness. Time has caught her, And will for all reasons take her. In the still light of dawn, she dies. Helpless hands soul revealing. Like leaves we touch, we learn. We once knew the story. As winter calls he will starve, All but to see the stone be life. Now Roan, no more tears. Set to work his strength, So transformed him. Realizing a form out of stone, His work so absorbed him. Could she hear him? Could she see him? All aglow was his room, Dazed in this light. He would touch her, He would hold her. Laughing as they danced, Highest colors touching others. Did her eyes at the turn of the century, Tell me plainly. How we'll meet, how we'll love, Oh, let life so transform me. Like leaves we touch, we dance. We once knew the story. As autumn called and we both, Remembered all those many years ago. I'm sure we know. Was the sign in the day with a touch, As I kiss your fingers. We walk hands in the sun, Memories when we're young, Love lingers so. Was it sun through the haze, That made all your looks, As warm as moonlight? As a pearl deep your eyes, Tears have flown away, All the same light. Did her eyes at the turn of the century, Tell me plainly. When we meet, how we'll look, As we smile time will leave me clearly. Like leaves we touch, we see, We will know the story. As autumn calls we'll both remember, All those many years ago.

I would love to see your reaction to Long Distance Runaround/The Fish!! They are 2 separate consecutive tracks but they really do have to go together. Long Distance Runaround has a really catchy but unusual beat and flow, then then turns into The Fish, which is saturated with layers of crazy bass guitar work. Even the song title is named after the late, great bassist Chris Squire. The Fish was his nickname because he was a Pisces. Some random Yes trivia for ya!!

THIS is Yes’ greatest moment… imho surpassing “Close to the Edge”, “Awaken”, Sides 1 and 4 of “Tales from Topographic Oceans”… it is EVERYTHING that they are capable: beauty, finesse, power, emotion… this is their masterpiece. Rick (Wakeman) and Steve (Howe) playing between each other - not OVER each other. Chris (Squire) moving it along gently. Alan (White) … I don’t think he uses his bass drum once in the entire song! … and then there’s Jon (no name needed) - his lyrics and his voice are on a whole NEW level. In case you couldn’t tell - I really love this song.

The prime Yes years from "The Yes Album" to "Going for the One" they were the so good and there will never be any band them them again. Thank you for posting this, for 50 years Yes is one of my very favorite groups. Love your reaction to Turn of the century. You could try some Yes live from Yessongs, "Yours is no Disgrace" and "Starship Trooper" are two amazing ones. I know you have done the studio versions of one or both but the live ones are unreal. That will help you understand how this band worked live. And my dear Yes is always the best through headphones.
