I got a Lectron adapter for my 7700 mile road trip around the US in my 2020 Chevy Bolt last year. As you mentioned it came in very handy at hotels. That's because Telsa gives out the Destination chargers to the businesses for free including installation if the business pays for the electricity. A lot of times Tesla will put in 2-3 of their chargers and one J1772 charger all in the same spot. It's a win win for Tesla and the businesses.

I disagree. If we had a 100% standard charging type, it would be J1772 for Level 2 and CCS for Level 3, both of which are far inferior to NACS. Most companies are gravitating toward NACS now, so it is becoming the unofficial standard.

Yes, with the low-power charger you can get an adapter. But what tesla said about "open up" is their supercharger network, not just a low-power adapter. Cannot believe that Lectron didn't even give you guys a discount code, lol. Also, would you pls ask Lectron a question: can they add some way on the tesla end to lock it to the tesla charger? I know the J1772 end would lock to the car, but if a tesla owner pulled up to the Tesla charger at a hotel, and saw someone other than another tesla using their charger, and decided to unplug you to charge theirs, is there a way to prevent people from doing that?

I didn't like that either which is why I bought a Tesla Tap. Usually you wouldn't have to worry about that with a Lectron charger as a lock would deter most people away but a TeslaTap is smaller, higher amp rated, has locks on both sides of the adapter and is made in the USA. Just returned my Lectron and bought an 80Amp Tesla Tap for future proofing. It's like $50 more than a Lectron counterpart but it's well worth it to not get unplugged by Tesla snobs

@@dearbulls Yes it does. In fact I would say it's better because they are actually (claiming to be) the original manufacturers of Tesla to J1772 adapters and everyone else just copied them. And if you look at their earlier models, it does look like the exact same model as the one in this video. You could never fit the one in the video in the glove box though. It would always have to go in the trunk or something. The Tesla Taps are like 5 inches and only stick out 3 inches plugged in. It's like what Tesla gives their customers the J1772 to Tesla adapter. Very small and compact. I forgot to mention it's the "mini" version you want. Don't get the big clunky one like in the video. Has a 1 year warranty as well.

@@robm6789 It never takes me more than 20 minutes to charge my Tesla to 75% . The range is 330 miles. So I have 222 miles worth of charge. Basically, the stops are planned by the Tesla itself using the onboard GPS Navigator. Drive time between charges on a road trip is between 2 and 3 hours. The superchargers are placed near the interstates and restaurants and other businesses. Basically you just press the right hand button on the steering wheel, say "Navigate to "wherever, some 500 miles or more, or less away" and drive. If you have Full Self Driving, you don't even really drive...just hold onto the steering wheel and pay attention to the traffic just in case something unsafe appears on your trip. I just made a 510 mile trip. 4 stops averaging about 20 minutes for "fuel". Much more pleasant than my previous vacation using my Volvo XC60 turbo- and super- charged gasoline engine. I do really love the Volvo. Really nice car. But it's nice to not have to worry about missing an exit or even keping the car in the lane, or fighting the traffic. Just let the Tesla worry about all that. It always knows the right exit and navigates the car into the exit and everywhere else, slows and speeds up and changes lanes depending on the traffic. Really non-stressful car trips. I'm sure other EVs are similar. But Tesla built up the charging network before filling the highways with cars...and they continue to stay ahead of production with the build out and build up. I think I bought the right EV. Just do your homework before you buy. Don't go by what "they" say. So, having the long range and the navigator to plan your route in just a few seconds, and the self driving coordinated with the navigator. and the super-fast superchargers, ...it was done right, and these are the main reasons I went Tesla. I'm just a Cajun from Louisiana; son of a tenant farmer, average kind of guy.

Destination chargers are intended to fill your car overnight while you sleep at a hotel, or to give you a little range bump while you are in a restaurant or bar for an hour or two. Similarly free Jplug chargers like Volta chargers at malls are only intended to give you a range bump while you shop. They were more important when I had a compliance car with 85 miles of total range, but now that I have a Tesla with 240 miles of range, I don't even park in those spots. I charge at home while I sleep if I am in my local area. The only time I use any of the public chargers is when I am on vacation

Me too, but this is for the 99% of people just getting an EV now or finding this video in the future. They aren't early adopters and this is all confusing magic to them. They also won't understand why one car charges so much faster than theirs so some kind of numbering system or color coding would be helpful for the humans that don't care about cars at all and they just want to get fuel for it.
