Gary Brooker's voice is simple ICONIC. This song is a rock classic that will never die. When asked what he thought was the greatest rock song ever written, Peter Frampton didn't hesitate to retort, "A Whiter Shade of Pale". This song came out in a time of war... a time of confusion... where most of us were looking for peace and serenity amongst strife and disorder. But great things were happening too. I am a former B3 Hammond Organ player who played and sang this song in various bands, through the 1970's and 1980's, more times than I can remember. No one does it better than Gary Brooker. Thank you for sharing and reacting to this awesome classic.

when I was 10 years old , back in 1977, within 6 month my father and one of my brothers passed away. As a German kid, I didn't understand a single word of this song, but there was this strange kind of support in my sadness. There was no need to understand the song, it felt like the song understood my sorrow.

Hallo, when I happened on your comment?...At das end it made me smile. :-) Emotional comfort ist often unexpected und simply there when you can only sit und cry so desperately that nothing else in your life matters...But it wraps warm arms around you, und helps you through das crying that you can't stop alone. My family has lived/worked our farm for almost 375 years (1647 CE). This land has witnessed much death, but I've been quite fortunate not to suffer das sudden loss you have. I have only das many pictures in our hall of das main Haus to ponder, das recent of them 6 family who perished during WW2, a 19 year old girl who would be my Oma und 5 young boys who wished to be brave soldiers...All of whom I never knew. I first heard this song when I was quite young as well. Mum was listening to it as she often did her Rock music while cooking. This was at times confusing for me because I've been playing violin since age 8 und Cello at age 10, so I've been a passionate Rocker most of my life und ist second only to my love of symphony composition. :-) I would have much liked to attend this outdoor concert in Denmark. I think Denmark has become their own in many disciplines und arts quite similar to most European countries. I can't imagine any emotional anguish that may still consume you at times, but I do hope that you can remain strong enough to bring forth das pleasant memories you have of your father und brother...und they make you smile. :-) Have a peaceful, constructive, or fun day that ist as you choose. I have chores in das stables abit later in das evening. I'm thinking an early lunch now though...Mum has made her Rouladen und I have a new bottle of French Pinot that will do nicely. :-) Stay safe in your Haus from COVID if ya feel need, und help others if ya can. Auf Wiedersehen aus Wiesbaden :-)

Many people react on the orchestra and the singer but your nodding movements reflect perfectly the original organist as you can see in videos of their early recordings. In fact the organ composition is most outstanding that gives this song an unforgettable value. It's not for nothing that the original organist had seen a great part of the royalty attributed to him. Love your reaction!

I honestly don't know how anyone - having never heard the song before - doesn't immediately listen to it again. One would think that with the orchestra, the choir, the organ, and the phenomenal vocals that this took days or weeks to produce in the studio. What we just listened to was done LIVE. It is an overly used word and I try not to use it, but this performance was simply awesome.

Wow haven't seen you in 6-8 month(don't remember)....And I'm in shock 😲)😁.... You are,was or became a rock fan?🤔.... Cause 2,5 years ago I watched you first time reacting to Dimash....and then for a few month I enjoyed you reactions to him, Amon Morissete,Marcelino Pinoy, but mostly I liked DIMASH reactions. But now you so much into rock. But that's ok...)I wish you would react more to Dimash or Diana Ankudinova. And there's another great Russian woman Singer Polina Gagarina. So I would leave you 3 links to their great songs(with Dimash it's hard to pick one, but I think you gonna love a very beautiful song about love with subs)but I suggest to hear first- a new artist-Polina Gagarina..... So 1) Polina Gagarina- "Cookoo"( true story about a girl who lived a simple, joyful life of a student in 1941, when Germany attacked USSR, and girl went to army and became a sniper! She killed more nazis than any woman in history(there's a videoclip from the war movie with this OST, about this story, but I would leave a link to live version... without subs-thats why I told you background story, but you can check this OST videoclip too). Live: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ipdzopZjx9PRgqs.html 2) Diana Ankudinova- "Rechenka"(she is 14 here) a very haunting song(if you will react to her find in internet translation and just read it to understand what's going on on stage- this an old russian folk song.. estimated first appearence in 1400) Link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aZt0qtJltrywoac.html 3) Dimash- "Love is like a dream", but don't forget to turn subtitles!! Beautiful song was written in that year Dimash was born. Or 94,or 95.And it was remade specially for DIMASH....he sung it ,and made this song totally different, more meaningful and beautiful,... link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rrJ1hN2X1rXDnGQ.html

Being 72 years of age, this song has a nostalgia difficult to describe for me. The 45 was released on May 12th, 1967. I bought one of the ten million sold. Just over two weeks later, the Beatles released Sgt. Pepper's. Procol Harum's debut song, along with Pepper's, became emblematic of the Summer of Love. This conjoining of orchestra and song here is an exultation and testament to the magic of music.

It's one of a small number of songs with an almost mystical quality. It touches a deep level of the human psyche. Countless people have recounted that when they first heard it, everything "stopped" while it was playing. The song demanded their full, uninterrupted attention. This first time I heard it, I pulled the car over to the shoulder of the road, cut off the engine and just let the radio play, as I listened in rapt amazement. Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin and A Day In The Life by The Beatles produce similar reactions.

At the age of 15, it was the organ melody that pulled me in. I didn't really understand the lyrics....but I really fell in love with it. As I've gotten older, I imagine in my mind...the story of a person in the military who is about to leave and falls into a drunken lonely stoop over an inevitable goodbye from someone who isn't planning on being around if he ever returns. A bittersweet evening.

I have never heard this rendition of the song. I'm floored. The orchestration is absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing this. Now you should listen to the original version to compare them.

I love your reaction -and how you closed your eyes and really got into it. They would be so honored to see how their music touches you -53 after the original song first came out. Beautiful.

I think it's time for some more goosebumps, have a look at STEVE VAI, TENDER SURRENDER (SteveVaiHimself) one of the top ten guitarists of all time, the king of the instrumental, then more violins, have a look at STEVE VAI, NOW WE RUN, with a great drumming performance by Jeremy Colson. And have a look at Steve vai acting in the movie CROSSROADS from 1986, have a look at the EPIC GUITAR BATTLE between Steve vai and RALPH MACCHIO (THE KARATE KID ) , Have a look at a show I saw in London, the beautiful WHISPERING A PRAYER, live at the Astoria London more goosebumps, just a pity about the poor camera work throughout the show. And have a look at BLUE POWDER form the same show with BILLY SHEEHAN On bass. Speaking of BILLY SHEEHAN have a look at Steve vai I'M THE HELL OUTTA HERE-- CROSSROADS GUITAR FESTIVAL live with some interesting guitar playing. Enjoy best wishes from the UK. A whiter shade of pale, one of my all the favourite tunes I've loved it since it was first released when I was a young boy a school.

Just a beautiful melody and beautiful voice. One of the greatest songs of all time. Just makes you nostalgic and melancholy for you don’t even know what. Whenever I’m getting a good mellow buzz on, I play this tune, I prefer the original though…

1967! Procol Harum, Whiter Shade of Pale and The Moody Blues, Nights in White Satin, what a year! Please do Nights in White Satin, I think the concert version is actually the best.

This is one of the bands that I grew up on in the 60s and 70s and what a time to be alive I wouldn't have missed it for the world but the music died around 1980 and so I started listening to country music and just about the time country started getting more of pop style music along came Chris Stapleton need I say more as always a great reaction
