According to biographers of McCartney and the Beatles, McCartney composed the entire melody of "Yesterday" in a dream one night. Paul McCartney suspects that his mother's death subconsciously inspired the song, “Yesterday.” On his appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, McCartney discussed whether losing his mother at an early age influenced his work.

"Oh I believe in Emily" !! I was 15 when this was released in 1965 and besides Paul I think this is the best version I've ever heard and I've heard hundreds of versions. Thanks Emily I love your voice and all of your videos!!!

Great cover. As you may know, Paul's dream was in 1963, he initially was not sure the melody was original, the final lyrics were completed much later and the song was only recorded in 1965.
