The scene in “The Blob” with everyone running out of the movie theatre at 3:51 was shot in my town. The Colonial theatre still looks the same.

After reading the Lloyd Alexander books the movie was based on, The Black Cauldron became one of my favorites when i was young. but i had ZERO idea about the expense that went into it and the lost footage. Those animation/concept cels are AMAZING. a fully realized version of the film made for an older audience would just be mind blowing!

I talked to The Black Cauldron's producer, Joe Hale, and unfortunately, he doesn't seem to have the black-and-white print of it anymore. He lost it when he and his wife moved.

Such a shame. If true, it makes you wonder where it is now. Was it picked up by some random person, who has no idea what they have? Was it accidentally thrown out? Is it sitting in an attic or garage somewhere? The mystery continues...

The problem with Eric Stoltz was that, according to the producer and director, he approached BTTF as more a serious science fiction film rather than the comedy they were going for. One of the things they mention was that Stoltz said that the Marty from the beginning of the movie shouldn't be the Marty that ends the movie. Also Eric Stoltz looks more like the kid of George and Lorraine than Michael Marty does.

GreatGarloo I would actually like to see a film like bttf but more serious. It'd be interesting on the topic they would tackel.
@themichealproject20

The black jacket he had on looked horrible. Completely different vibe from Marty's orange vest. He was too skinny and lanky as well and his playing a teen didn't look convincing..
@GreatGarloo
@GreatGarloo 7 жыл бұрын
It would be interesting. Like how long would it take for the out of time Marty's memories to catch up with everyone else's. Example: His brother and sister have no memory of their previous lives. They only know their current reality with their author father. Marty remembers their lives before so he's not the "true" Marty. He's Other Marty at least until his memory catches up. BTTF really raises a lot of questions about reality and memory if you think about it.
@SciFiFan2012
@SciFiFan2012 7 жыл бұрын
GreatGarloo what if Marty's memories never caught up, and his photo albums are full of people, places and things he never did?
@GreatGarloo
@GreatGarloo 7 жыл бұрын
That's good. BTTF 4 could be really, really dark with Marty trying to constantly cover over things he doesn't remember or remembers differently. He slips up to much and ends up in an institution and Doc has to rescue him.

Thank you for revealing that a few key, emotional plot points from the final HP book were actually filmed (Harry and the Dursleys)... always felt that they needed a better send off at the beginning of Part 1 of the final movie. I hope that one day those scenes get a release.

While most of the snippets I showed in the video are unreleased, the ones with the Dursleys is actually included in the special features of the Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 Bluray...at least in the Hogwarts Collection. Someone also uploaded it to youtube along with the rest of the select deleted scenes...of course there are still MANY more that are missing: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jJ90eruFqcCxoGw.html

There are around 20mins of Jurassic Park scenes missing from the currently available cut. They were originally included in the initial 1993 release to some selected cinemas around the world (including my home town), before disappearing; never to be seen again. A few stills from these scenes have appeared on the internet in the last couple of years, but no footage, except for the 'Leaf grab scene' that can still be seen in the theatrical trailer. I would LOVE to see these scenes released by Universal, or even reinstated to a future rerelease of the film.

If you haven't seen it, which im sure you have, there are two documentaries, one with James Earl Jones narrating (I had recorded it on vhs when it aired) , and another more about the science behind JP narrated by Jeff Goldblum... both are excellent.

I would love to see the deleted footage from E.T. The "E.T. looking at Mary and placing an M&M/Reese's Piece on Mary's pillow" scene was emulated in William Kotzinkle's novelization of E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial And His Adventure On Earth. That was when I first encountered it. I always thought that bit of the book was a very cute and heartwarming thing and I wished it had made it to the movie. It showed E.T. really cared and liked Mary. Its also one of the first heartbreaking parts of E.T. since, at least in the book, it starts with E.T. looking out of Elliott's window and being very sad. The book in that bit describes E.T. feeling "cosmic loneliness" due to him missing his Spaceship and friends. Also, from that point of the book until he starts dying, E.T. is torn between wanting to spend the rest of his days with Mary, Elliott, Michael and Gertie on the one-hand whilst on the otherhand E.T. wants to go home, to his Spaceship and friends.

One of the most infamous examples in my personal recollection is the sad case of the theatrical anime movie "Fist Of The North Star". Not the heavily censored television series. I mean a theatrical animated adaptation of the classic manga. The original intent was to keep all of the insane gore of the manga intact. However, it was still a shonen anime marketed towards a younger age demographic, so the story goes that the movie was run for a single weekend in Japan, and there was massive outrage at the violence. So the film was quickly yanked, and they literally cut and edited the film to do many strange cuts and edits to large sections of the film. ...and I mean "literally" in many cases. They cut up film reels, and reshot many scenes on video with additional filters and strange color effects. The result is obviously bizarre edits of original footage that have been forever lost. A FEW rare seconds of uncut scenes were recovered from an insanely rare Italian VHS and a trailer. But most of the scenes are lost from their original versions. Many attempts have been made for historians to find traces of the original shots or the original animation, but they seem well and truly destroyed. Discotek Media tried to make a new DVD release that cobbled together as much unaltered footage as possibly obtainable, but the movie is still irrevocably butchered to this day.

It's a tricky one about unused footage. There are some movies where the extras would've made them better in transitions and continuity. But one that sticks out is The Blues Brothers, where the unused footage was put back into the movie - and totally changed the humor. It became TOO explained, drawn out and detailed. But is always interesting to see and know what a film makers intent was and/or what caused sudden changes of heart to cut and rework the movie. I'm not sure if I've seen a movie that made me like it more from having seen the directors cut or restored version? Apocalypse Now Redux is interesting, but I still love the initial theatrical release.

On the Alien disc..so keep hope!

Imagine being called in only as a substitute, and despite nearly all of the scenes being shot, you get turned down since the primary guy is now available and after that, the movie is praised and long remembered as one of "the movie of the century". I would be scarred for life if I was in Eric's position (Don't get me wrong, I love Michael J. Fox from the bottom of my heart but still, it's a sad thing for Eric).

Wow that's a hard question to answer. Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings are two of my very favorite movies....so I'd have to see those. I also would like to see Black Cauldron, because I liked the movie, but always felt there was something missing in it. So I guess, my answer is all of these three ! Have to say I enjoy what you're doing, so I've subscribed and look forward to watching more of what you do !! Thanks for sharing !

Keep in mind that some "deleted scenes" actually offer no additional information or simply repeat information that we learn in a much better way in a different scene. This is the reason why scenes get deleted or snippets removed. I'd seen a TV version of HP 2 Chamber/Secrets with "deleted scenes" which were mostly bits of them in the common room or outside talking. To me, a deleted scene should convey something we didn't see the first time around. A hidden motive or a brief encounter that just sheds that little bit of extra light to a story. Now The Black Cauldron full version I would love to see!

Interesting video, I never knew there were so many movies that had big chunks locked away. Two movies that I would like to see deleted or hidden clips from are Alien and Spiderman (the first Tobey McGuire one). From what I've read, some of the locked away footage from Alien changes the movie completely with Ripley and Dallas being a couple, and Ripley finding an egg in the end. As for Spiderman, we all recall that we lost the world trade center buildings on 9/11. Spiderman was reedited to remove all traces of the twin towers, which I personally felt was a travesty to pretend like those buildings never existed. I would love to see the original version of both of these movies.

There is always some oddity out there During the trailers of Wreck It Ralph 2, a sequence involving a little girl on her way to a vacation, playing a mobile game which Ralph and Vanellope trespass into. During the final stages of production (when the sequence was fully 3D rendered and everything was put together), it was cut from the main film itself, however the directors, not wanting to waste their animation, decided to stick the sequence once the film credits passed. If I had to guess where it would fit in the story. It would be when Yesss tells them to visit the mobile district and that game. However Vanellope hesitates about going; but chooses to visit the game.

His character didn't make sense in the LOTR books. He was powerful enough to not be affected by the ring. And he was also powerful enough to make the ring disappear. Why didn't he just hold on to the ring for Frodo?
@philippenachtergal6077
@philippenachtergal6077 7 жыл бұрын
He wasn't invincible. He would after a while have been defeated if Sauron concentrated his attention on him. Also, just because he could command the ring (and therefore appear unaffected) doesn't mean he would be immune to the corruption of power on the long term. But yeah, in a film, if you saw all that you would really expect Bombadil to play a role later one. Bombadil scenes could have been filmed but it would have been clear from the very start that they would only be bonus scenes.

Back in the early 90's my mom worked for a television station and they got the chance to view the stock Jurassic park footage before the cuts and alterations to gauge the reviewer reception. She sneaked one of the VCR tapes home with her for us to view. I still have it in my cupboard complete with the rolling timestamp at the bottom and cut scenes, probably one of the most complete versions of the film available.

There were 17 minutes of deleted scenes found 7 years ago from 2001 a space odyssey. Don't know if it'll ever get seen. There was a lot more cut footage from 2001 that Kubrick destroyed. I know there was one scene cut because it was just redundant where Dave Bowman was talking to Mission Control about replacing the AE-35 unit and Mission Control was basically repeating back the same stuff in a later scene.

"The Land Before Time" Is another example like "black Cauldron". However it was Steven Spielberg himself who ordered Bluth to cut tons of scenes which he deemed too gruesome.... It's pretty straightforward why said footage are never going to be released to the public. The owners want to jack the prices up for a future private auction; since the profit margin will be more in the hands of a private collector rather than re-releasing the movie+bonus content in a Bluray or DVD.

This was an interesting video. I have never even heard of The Black Cauldron. As for The Lord Of The RIngs and the Harry Potter movies, you could probably come up with 10 movies worth of film using the edited stuff. You really should have a separate video for each of those franchises. And let me just say that for $500 you should have Harry Potter himself deliver that box set to your door! When it comes to other movies I'd love to see the cut footage of The Big Chill- the scenes with Kevin Costner that Lawrence Kasdan has refused to let people see.
