By far the unrealized Disney idea I'd most want to see will always be Beastly Kingdom. The unrealized potential still depresses me as it's by far the most imaginative theme park idea in Disney history, among those never built.

mark d not expensive, they just went with Dinosaur because they thought it would be 1. More profitable after the movie, 2. Stand up better over the years. I wish they did go with Beastly Kingdom. Medieval is always fascinating

I think they have plenty of room, it's planning where to put it(if at all), as well as if they even WANT to build it after all these years. Would take a lot of people saying they want Beastly Kingdom for them to really consider it

Dsny newscast said that disneyLAND could still retheme splash mountain to princess and the frog but disney world’s is in the middle of Frontierland so could retheme it to thunder Mesa mountain and the river expedition

A lot of the elements for this project went to Disneyland Paris' Phantom Manor, which also involved Tony Baxter I believe.

The Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris does have a ghost town section, which likely came from refurbished Western River Expedition props.

I believe the area around the attraction and in the lore about the Ravenswood is also called Thunder Mesa.

WolfpupBrew I was just about to point this out! I've never been to Disneyland Paris, but from the description I've read about Phantom Manor, Thunder Mesa *is* the name of the fictional town where the Ravenswood manor is located, and at some point in the PM ride, you exit the manor and end up traveling through part of the Thunder Mesa ghost town, which resembles part of the ride that was intended for WDW.

While many would agree that Epcot is a much better park than California Adventures (and my favorite among the American Disney parks), that's mostly because it's so UNIQUE, and having a clone would kinda lower the appeal

RE-UPLOAD NOTE: Ironically, considering my last theme park video was about PC content changes, I had a backup of this video, as I was concerned using the term “Indian” (my intention being to stay within the context of how the particular scene was described at the time, thus leading to the eventual revisals for insensitive portrayals) without more context might offend and insight some negativity. That rather quickly proved to be the case, so I made the judgement call to re-upload, and leave this comment rather than pretend it never existed. Thanks for understanding, apologies for any inconvenience, and thanks for watching! Mark

At some point there were plans for a log flume in the Canada section, and a Switzerland area with an East Coast Matterhorn Bobsleds. Of course, you could argue that as it turned out, Expedition Everest is the East Coast counterpart of Matterhorn Bobsleds. But there were supposed to be a lot more big rides in World Showcase.

There are some who've,as a personal project, recreated defunct Disney attractions using CGI...somebody recreated Adventure Through Inner Space, and I believe there's a still-unfinished WDW version of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. It's funny, I've often seen "Thunder Mesa" referenced in articles and whatnot about unbuilt lands, and seen it mentioned in quite a few comments on my videos (possibly such as yours), but I knew very little about it to be honest. And oddly enough, in doing further research for Alien Encounter...it came up again, and once I started looking into it, I switched gears and knew I had to make a video about it asap.

Though I wasn't a big fan of the movie, I wish that I could've seen Frontierland's 2013 Oz expansion in Disneyland come to fruition. It would've served as a perfect transition from Frontierland (Kansas) to Fantasyland (Oz itself), and considering the Oz property's history with Walt I think it would've been amazing. He loved the world of Oz and it's characters, but they always seemed to be just out of his reach whether it came to movies or theme parks, so I think having Oz in the park would've been a nice way to honor the dream that he could never reach when he was alive. It's a shame the only other appearance of anything Oz related in a major theme park is relegated to two scenes based on the 1939 film in The Great Movie Ride in Florida.

Thank you so much! I realize I've been a bit one-sided in my theme park videos. Believe me, It's not for lack of passion. It was also considered too expensive to build a Pirates in Florida for the Magic Kingdom (not the only reason for excluding it from the park at first) and yet they ended up building it in 1972-1973. Also, there were several weeks of debate in 1967 over the possibility of a Pirates ride in Florida and then we know the rest. However, Marc Davis altered the WRE concept to complement the Pirates after they built the WDW PotC.

I feel like we truly lost out on the Dark Kingdom and, upon hearing about it, the Beastly Kingdom as well. I mean, I know NSSHP was a take on making the entire park into a sort of "Dark Kingdom", but I feel like a year-round section would open the door to a lot of fun with Disney Villains (who have been on the rise in popularity for years. My niece is a villain lover and would DIE for a villain themed park), including some nods to the VERY popular Disney Descendants as time went on for the park.

Good video and content with some funny editing and cut-aways. I would have liked to have seen this attraction become a reality, however then it opens up an entire conversation about would Big Thunder Mountain even exist at any Disney theme park. Also don't forget the "edited" version of POTC at WDW was because of time, money, and Florida. You mention the high water table in Florida at the beginning of the video, which is why Pirates only has one drop. The demand for a Pirates ride from the public caused Disney to do a rush job, and at the end of the day, the money for Thunder Mesa was used up from building Pirates. After Pirates was built, Disney execs decided W.R.E. was too close in style and theme to POTC, and with no budget, it was ultimately killed off. I often describe Western River as POTC but with cowboys instead of pirates. Yes it is similar, but I think it would have been neat for WDW to have it's own unique attraction.

I did include the sign though ;) In all seriousness, as Jes pointed out, I mostly wanted to keep this focused on Magic Kingdom's unrealized version, and merely add at the end that it's continued to have influences throughout Disney's theme park history, hoping to encourage others to look into it further for themselves and discover the connections.

I really thought that Disney would do something cool for WDW's 50th anniversary and give us a proper opening scene like the Bayou scene in Disneyland, but since it's in Adventureland and not in New Orleans Square it would be themed toward that land instead. It would then make the first of two plunges into a proper grotto scene. WDW's Pirates of the Caribbean got the shaft because of the Thunder Mesa project that never happened. I feel like the fans deserve an E ticket attraction like the original at Disneyland.

I think it would have been awesome to have the thunder mesa instead, with a different water dark ride. It leaves the opportunity for a different experience, depending on which park you visit. I much prefer the idea of each park having its own theming and unique rides to just simply clones in every park.

I'm still stuck on the idea that Disney didn't think a pirates ride would be popular in Florida. Florida is incredibly pirate crazy, and has been for as long as I can remember.

Probably in the minority for this, but I would have loved to see the Dick Tracy-themed area at Disney MGM Studios come to life. Although I wasn't around when the live-action Dick Tracy film was released (was born a year later), I ended up enjoying the film years later, and felt that it would have fit in really well with the park.

Out of all the lands they were going to build at Disney World, I'd want Beastly Kingdom and/or the Muppet Studios :'(

I enjoyed the attraction and was disappointed with the Stitch replacement. It was a very different attraction for the Magic Kingdom but a good one full of that Disney Magic.
