When I worked for Universal Studios in the mid 90s, I once walked across the Jaws roadway at night and could see the outline of "Bruce" the shark down in the water. Even though it isn't real, it was still pretty creepy being out by that water alone at night with a 20 foot shark in the water. Thanks for the great vid and for the memories!

It’s very true...it’s all about greed. Atleast Walt Disney knew the importance of ride preservation. Disney has kept some of their original rides still intact but upgraded since the parks opened. Universal could learn a thing or two from Disney.

You are right! The same happened with Eurosat at Europapark Germany. They have changed it from a space theme to a Moulin Rouge theme. There were so many complaints about the new and really bad ride experience, that Europapark decided to turn off all effects of the coaster shortly after opening the renewed ride.

The effects in the 70s (other than the look of the shark) are wayyyyyy better than the ones today. It just seems that screens are an easy solution but will never be as thrilling as true movie magic.

I thought the shark looked pretty good in the first movie. When it came onto the Orca, that was the only time I felt we saw too much. Considering the time and what the ocean did to the original shark, it holds up pretty well-better than any of the sequels.

This is the first time I've seen a research video on Jaws in its first stage, with all the original or replica props, and I'm completely livid. I can't believe they'd have the audacity to remove key features from a movie's ride adaptation. I should probably be more heated of the ride's entire removal, though. . . I hope SS gave the Orlando team heat for destroying the original and actual functioning Orca.

Crazy to sit back and think about all the rides we have lost in universal Orlando. We go about every year and have since 2000. From jimmy neutron, sponge bob 4D, the forgotten about Nick studios, twister, back to the future, disaster, and jaws. Those were great rides now just ET is hanging in there and to me it is still a ride I enjoy. Your videos are great keep it up.

Mark Stewart There were 2 different rides. I am sure he means the Hollywood one. I looked at the thumbnail while reading over some of what i said and saw "Universal Studios Hollywood" below the ride name. Also this ride is still operational unlike the Orlando ride. The Orlando one had a similar but altered plot from this one. It completely lacks the fisherman and had more pyrotechnics as well as more actual shark encounters than the ome he is referring to.
@karamellcreme

Steven Spielburg is actually not letting Universal Studios replace E.T with Nintendoland. I can’t believe Twister (a ride I could never go on; I’m astraphobic) was replaced with a shitty Jimmy Fallon ride, and Disaster was replaced by a shitty Fast and Furious ride. I loved Disaster. Jaws was replaced by Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley. If it wasn’t for that, Universal Studios Orlando would almost go bankrupt because of Disney. Imagine that.

If I was Steven Spielberg, I would have cried when I found out that the Orca was cut up and thrown out. I cant believe he couldn't stop that from happening. That's just awful. Jaws and Kong deserve their rides back, the whole screen projected rides get boring after a while, especially at big theme parks like Disney and Universal. I can understand those type of rides at zoos and small local theme parks. But if your paying big bucks at Disney and Universal, I would think you want entertaining rides.

Sadly the Florida Jaws is gone. If I wanted to take my daughter to see Jaws I have to take her to California's Universal. If it's not to late. Florida had an Alfred Hitchcock attraction where they went behind some of a few of his famous movies, then later it got replaced with Shrek 4D. I like Shrek but, Daaaaammnnn yooouuu Shrek, that attraction was Awesome.

Other props and attractions included The Incredible Hulk, Bionic bits n pieces such as a tree and a car you could push over/lift and if I remember correctly the newest attraction under construction was for the original Battlestar Galactica series. Years ago I had a friend who had worked the tram tour @ Universal in the late 1980's. He said that the tour guides referred to the George the fisherman blood effect as the "jelly doughnut." The "blood" that was squirted into the water after George was pulled under had more of a bright, strawberry jelly coloring. You even get a glimpse of this @ 06:14 in the video.

Not only have they chopped up the Orca and removed the fisherman’s boat, all three Backlot based attractions in Orlando either burned down or was replaced, it just goes to show Universal is still great, but don’t entirely care about old loved attractions and see them as something you could just get rid of that you find in an attic

I went on the ride too back in 1999/2000. I think I rode it about 3 times when I was in Florida. Loved it so much, even though it scared me. I never knew it was taken away until I watched the history of Jaws on Defunctland's channel. I was so upset to hear Harry Potter took over the ride's area. I never thought Universal would take away Jaws and Kong, but I was wrong. From what I heard the last original ride in Universal Florida is the ET one. But I also heard its gonna be shut down soon, or it has already been shut down. I feel depressed...

I remember riding the jaws ride with the pyrotechnics! I also remember that jaws would splash water at the guests on the ride as he lunged at the side of the boat and you had no idea he was coming. I remember Jaws randomly attacking my side of the boat and it scaring the crap out of me and I screamed and started to cry a little and my big brother finally convinced me that it wasn’t real and that it was actually funny how he was attacking people and making them scream. I was pretty young, like about 5 or 6 at the time. Why I only remember that part of the ride, I have no idea. Hahaha. fun times, fun times 😂

To anyone unawar, the Jaws jumpscare bit was removed because the model jumping at the tram actually caused some damage that needed maintenance as it made actual contact with the tilted tram. They got sick of it eventually and redesigned it.

I’ve noticed that the shark fin doesn’t come out of the water anymore. That was a cool part of the “ride” but it seems like they have no interest in maintains or improving it anymore. It’s currently the oldest moving attraction on the tram tour in Hollywood.

I've thought about doing a much longer video where I go through the USH Tram Tour's evolution as a whole, from it's debut till present, rather than focus on one particular element...If enough are interested, I'll certainly try to make it happen in the near future ;)

Oh yes, please do the whole tram tour! Most people probably don't know about the Roman ampetheater from Jesus Christ Superstar or the avalanche effect but those were two of the best parts that are truly missed, besides Battlestar. Thanks for the consideration.

Let me tell you my opinion about the carrot tooth. I think the look on the shark looks good ok, because it looks exactly like the one from the poster. I know that the eyes look goofy, but the design of carrot tooth looks awesome and this is just my opinion, ok. Thank you.
