You might not realize but a single card to bring out another card is still a resources.

You need to discard to use mask change 2, and that counts as a resource, even if the discarded card has a gy effect when discarded.

He's talking about the cost of the card. Flipping a trap (and maybe paying some LP) is some thing any deck can do but providing three tributes is not nearly as easy.

@@xCorvus7xAnd sure it’s not as “easy” to achieve on a surface level, but when you consider the fact that your deck’s capabilities become far more limited as a result of trying to build around said floodgate that apply to both players AND having to be fortunate enough to draw into a single copy makes it about on par if not more than harder to achieve what Heroes do for their floodgates. In the end of the day, I think the actual problem is how monster centric the game has become. People are already so prepared to deal with monsters by default that the average continuous spell/trap will ruin their game-plan and makes their opponent “skilless” while the cookie cutter combo deck player is considered the victim, when really it’s the fault of game design.

@@JoeLikesBlue Even in modern YGO there are decks that in fact struggle to foot such a tribute cost (such as Labrynth variants without the furniture or Floowandereeze, ironically; though, these birds lock themselves out of Special Summoning altogether anyway). Flipping a trap, on the other hand, can be done by literally everyone. I think TDL wasn't factoring in how well the floodgate that affected both players actually worked out for any given deck, just as he ignored availability.

@@xCorvus7x Your point only makes sense if we’re assuming that people play decks with exclusively archetypal support when that is clearly not the case. Except for the cases of archetypes that hard lock you for breathing, those probably have a harder time getting it out.
