Today we get to take a look at the YHM R9. This is a 9mm caliber can specifically designed around pistol caliber carbines(PCC) but can fill the roll of a pistol can as well as a rifle can. Keep the caliber below 9mm and you'r likely good to go with this beast of a can. Enjoy!

I ended up loving this can more than I thought I would. While it was built for a sub gun role, it sounds almost better than it should to me on a 16” 5.56. It also has now become my go-to hunting can for my 18” 30-06. It’s not as quiet as my Nomad, but how light and short it is makes it a fantastic deer hunting suppressor. For the price tag, I think this is a great starter can for someone not wanting to drop a ton of money on their first suppressor.

Man, your right on point 👌 I don’t generally like “do-all” cans but this one does a lot and does it surprisingly well 🤷‍♂️ I’m a fan 😁 Especially with the 30-06 and 308. It still surprises me how well a 9mm PCC suppressor can sound so well with higher pressure 30 cal cartridges. Kudos to YHM for overbuilding their cans 👌

I own This CAN and I love it for the versatility and performance it offers… it’s a good bang for your buck !! It does well with my ExtarEP9 and suppresses really well my 18” “DMR” rifle. It has a low tone making it very pleasant to shoot outdoors 😊❤

Awesome video! Love the little spinning mount display 😂. I have this in jail with no real host planned yet, impulse buy. It sure sounded damn good on the pcc’s. Would love to see a side by side on 556 with the R9 and a 556 can. I have a nomad Ti and sierra 5, this guy might do some double duty on several other guns until I build a pcc.

Just purchased an R9 along with a CGS Hydra-Al for my rimfire blasters from Silencer Shop. Now the wait begins. This can will elevate my .30 Cal deer/hog blasters to a new level. The thing that bums me out is the 16" minimum barrel length for 5.56. My 5.56 carbine has a 14.5” barrel with pinned muzzle device to make it legal length. I was wondering though if having 1.5" less of actual barrel length would really have a negative effect on this can? But, I've already planned on rebarreling with a 16" barrel if need be.

If you have a brake as your pinned muzzle device then you might be fine running the R9 for casual use.

With how expensive they are I don’t mind a can that do multi calibers. Like my deadair wolf man. But majority of the time I’m only using my cans for what they are made for. It’s the one off’s multi caliber cans I like to have with me….

The more cans I get the more I too use them for their “intended” role. But having the ability to use the can on multiple setups is definitely an advantage, especially when the sound good 👍

I must say because of the wait for a stamp process of the ATF, I like the multi-use can. But if the thing changes I would keep pistol cans to pistols and rifle cans to rifles. I'm a little less than you Caleb l am at six cans this far

See I never got a Resonator… I went for the Turbo-K, T3 and then the R9. It would be really interesting to put the R9 and Resonator up against each other 🤔 If u you oh put a decibel reader on it I’ll bet your Resonator-K would measure quieter than the R9 on 30cal and 223. But then you don’t get the versatility out of the Resonator that you do with the R9 🤷‍♂️ The answer is to get the R9 next 😂 haha… but I wouldn’t regret the Resonator-K you have.

I have this suppressor and love it on my SBR Scorpion. This is my first can and I was trying to get a "do all". Sounds Great on my 16" 556 PSA. I have a 14.5" BCM 556. What do you think about running it on the 14.5" with the Phantom QD mount?
@CalebDowning
@CalebDowning 10 ай бұрын
It’s a great can isn’t it 😁 You could probably get away with running the R9 on a 14.5” but I’d try and utilize the phantom brake to save the baffles a little. With the price being what it is, I’d suggest getting a Turbo T3 or K for those 5.56 guns.

What are your opinions on flow cans? Specifically, the new HUXWRK 762 TI, they say is full auto everything .30cal down no barrel restrictions but is a TI body. This is completely contrary to the industry that always preaches to keep your TI cans under 800 degrees fahrenheit .
@CalebDowning
@CalebDowning Жыл бұрын
Hey man, So I haven’t had a chance to use any flow cans yet. Their theory sounds great and I would expect them to have a better gas flow vs traditional cans. I’ve heard some folks say the Huxwrx cans have a shorter lifespan. Not sure what caliber or rate of fire they were running. So I really don’t know. Maybe Huxwrx isn’t expecting folks to really shoot their cans that much and are willing to warranty cans for folks who actually use them 🤷‍♂️

Would be nice if I could send in my gen 1 Resonator and have them modify it to have the 1.375x24 threads. I like yhm. Their a great value can, but I kinda hate using their muzzle devices for pin and weld builds. I always have to pull the guts apart and then drill it, slip the guts back on the barrel, and make sure their in the right order before welding or else your going to have to break the weld, and then have to grind certain areas of the rings so they'll slip over the newly welded pin without impeding the springs in the mount. Yhm mounts suck bad for Pin and welds, but if all you have are yhm cans, without the new universal threads that's all you can use.

Which would you pick as a first or Best can YHM r9, silencerco omega-300, dead air Sandman S, or finally dedicated 556 YHM Turbo T3
@CalebDowning
@CalebDowning 2 ай бұрын
Hmm, that depends on what you are mostly trying to suppress. If you’re only suppressing 5.56 then I’d say get a Turbo T3. If you want the best budget 9mm can that will also handle some rifle rounds then the R9 is a good choice. If I could go back in time then I’d go with the R9. I have mostly 5.56 and then some AK’s and 9mm hosts.

Alright, Caleb - you know I have to ask: compare it to the Omega9k and Wolfman on the SP5. Give it to us straight! For the price, you can’t beat the R9, but which suppresses better (reduction and tone) between those 3 (Wolfman short vs long)?

So I may be really dumb, I’m still getting into suppressors but serious question. Why can’t it handle .22 but will run 5.56?
@CalebDowning
@CalebDowning 8 ай бұрын
Great question. It’s not an issue of “pressure” or being able to “handle” the dinky 22lr. It’s an issue of “fouling”. 22lr is extremely dirty and uses exposed lead bullets. Every time you shoot a 22 it will shed some lead from the projectile into your suppressor. Standard 22 suppressors are made to be taken apart and cleaned, but cans like this one are welded together and not able to be taken apart. So if you shoot a bunch of 22lr through a sealed/welded can then you will end up clogging up the can with lead and basically turn your can into a heavy barrel extension.

I asked my guy at YHM and he asked their gunsmith. Here’s what he said, “That should be fine since the R9 can handle .308 Win. and those two rounds are pretty close in performance.” So there ya go. You should be good to go as long as you follow the same barrel restrictions the R9 has for 308 👌
