THE PERFORMERS
Musical Director Tenzin Choegyal brings together five extraordinary musical talents to weave a tapestry of sound from the Asia Pacific region.
Internationally recognised since the age of 15, William Barton (didgeridoo, Australia) has performed with the London and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestras and composed music for the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony. A master of his instrument and experienced collaborator, William won an ARIA in 2012 for best classical album with Kalkadungu.
Baatasukh Batsukh (vocals and morin khuur, Mongolia) is a master of the horse- headed fiddle -- morin khurr -- and the traditional overtone throat singing style.
Tenzin Choegyal (vocals and instrumentalist) composes music which is strongly influenced by his family's nomadic heritage. Tenzin appears regularly at major events such as Woodford Folk Festival and WOMAD and recently played Carnegie Hall in New York alongside notables such as Philip Glass and Patti Smith. Tenzin is also Creative Director of the annual Festival of Tibet and the Himalayan Film Festival. APSA Dec 2013 opening performance

I love when various cultures meet, and instead of clashing, they create something unique and beautiful. Gives me hope for humanity. You don't need to share the same beliefs as someone, you just need a common interest and an open mind.

They aren't a cross-over. Australian aborigine are also 1st nation India. They brought over Dreamtime, spirituality and vibration. They literally went walkabout around the world. You will find boomerangs in Poland to the Pharaoh's tombs and hand paintings in South American caves.

Tenzin's heartfelt singing is just wonderful, this man is a divine gift.....this meeting between tibetan and mongolian cultures is exiquisit......my body is still here but my heart traveled far, far away with this music ! Thank you !

I am Russian and I *feel it*. I honestly know nothing about lyrics of the song, and even won't try to guess or find out. But somehow it makes me sad and happy at the same time, I'm crying in my heart. Feels like something crappy happend to me and this song says "everything is gonna be alright, boy". Thousands of years passed away to create these instruments, siniging maners, languages and words. Pop-music is okay, but... people should pay attention to it, if they don't want their souls to be burried under a bunch of nonsense.

I totally get what you mean. There is a KZfaq channel BEK that showcases Russian folk music. I know very little Russian but I listen feel a connection to some of it. I think more emotion comes from the delivery of a word, moreso than the actual meaning behind that word. Well, at least that's what I believe. Love and respect from US.

What are these instruments? Horse head fiddle and didgeridoo but what is the third one? Oh I see it's a Dranyan! I love this so amazing! There is so much in this world that I have not seen or experienced! I feel my ancestors in this music
