The yin yoga posture happy baby pose or stirrup pose helps to open the hips and the inner leg. There are many variations of this pose. Be sure to use a variation that allows your upper back and shoulders to relax.

I don’t really think there is a difference between happy baby and stirrup pose? I’ve never heard of calling it anything else other than Happy Baby other than Sanskrit of course until Yin style of Yoga became more popular. As a yoga instructor since 1998 its funny when we learn and teach our students one name and others call it a different name in a different form.. For example Pigeon 2 some now call it Sleeping Swan & Puppy Pose is also called melting heart. Then of course the two versions of Dragonfly! Lol

You're right! Stirrup and happy baby pose are the same pose. Both names are used so I included them both here :) In yin yoga the names of the poses have been changed to indicate it is a "yin yoga pose" not an active "yang" pose. There are important differences between the way a pose is practiced when it's yin versus when it's yang. That's why we use different names. For example, pigeon pose is an active posture requiring engagement in the muscles. It's also held for a shorter period of time. In sleeping swan, you can soften the musculature and hold the pose longer (anywhere from 2-6minutes depending on ability). Hope that helps!
