Perlman was asked to play Schindler's List because he is widely considered the world's greatest classical violinist. He was playing on the Ed Sullivan show as a child prodigy 60 yeards ago. He isn't just good, he is on the GOAT list, with Stern, Haifetz, etc. He played more actively years ago. Has recorded with Pavoratti and almost every other major classical star in vocals and instruments. He and Helfgott did a CD together for SONY years ago ---- Perlman said it had been his dream for years to do a CD with Helfgott. I love Helfgott (His version of Yoselle Rozenblatt's Hallelu is stunning and his Selichos hav eto be herad live to be appreciated) --- Perlman is the more famous of the two.

It's interesting that you noticed he was far from the mic and still projected his voice- Orthodox cantors (which he is) in synagogue don't use mics when praying so they're usually accustomed to throwing their voice so everyone can hear them

Your observations are incredible. As someone who grew up with Jewish music running through my veins, it's amazing to watch someone who doesnt understand a word theyre saying (except in this case you have subtitles), feeling the music and picking up the tone of it all. It's so refreshing. you're amazing.

Perlman contracted polio at age four and has walked using leg braces and crutches since then. As of 2018, he uses crutches or an electric Amigo scooter for mobility and plays the violin while seated. Perlman appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show twice in 1958, and again in 1964, on the same show with the Rolling Stones.Nov 4, 2018

I believe I was the one who linked to this video, so thank you for doing it. Helfgot is the top Jewish cantor (we specifically use that term for the operatic type of perfomers) and this is just the tip of the iceberg of what he can do vocally. Itzhak Perlman is a Grammy winning violinist who is from the best on the planet. The combination is truly soul stirring which is why I recommended it. Glad you enjoyed!

@freespeech100

I absolutely LOVE that too (It was written by Yosssele Rosenblatt), although the rendition on the Helfgott CD with the Israel Philharmonic is much better --- Helfgott in peak form, bigger choir, and the orchestration is much better as a classical orchestra with a massive string and horn section rather than a expanded wedding band setup, which makes it sound much less operatic and regal.

@@Z_IT_IS True. Shulem Lemmer's version (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aN2lgK-YvLenoI0.html) has some good moments, but to me that arrangement is a complete disjointed mess. Worth a watch, if only to sigh and say "wow, that would have been nice if they didn't try deconstructing something that didn't need fixing". Wouldn't it be funny (and great!) if PortueguesePai was responsible for creating a bunch more fans of Chazzanus!

For pronounciation of the “Ch” of Hebrew/Yiddish words, when it’s written in English letters, it’s usually pronounced “Chhh” like you are clearing your throat, for example “Yitzchak” would be with the throat clearing sound, not “Ch” like in chip

Interesting pick, though I had that CD and really like that rendition. I think you might also like kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rryVh9KLktitpKM.html, and you might also like my alltime favorite: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aJuEZpp139WUhKs.html HELFGOTT singing Rosenblatt's HALLELU.... That's what I i found on youtube, the absolute best was the version on Helfgott's CD (I think with the Israel Philharmonic --- the choir was a bit better and the music was 1000X better. Helfgott was a bit better in that one. But musically and vocally this is a materpiece in either arrangement. I think you'll like it! (Shulem Lemmer also did this kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aN2lgK-YvLenoI0.html and his voice is great (especially from 5:00 till the end) but the arrangement is much worse than the one with the expanded wedding band --- it really requires a true orchestra---- a snappy arrangement makes the different parts of the composition sound disconnected from each other and takes away from the mood).

Helfgot is a student of one of the amazing Yossele (Joseph) Rosenblatt, one of the greatest Jewish cantors of the previous century, as well as the composer of this song. His songs have become standards in synagogues across the world, and many people are unaware they are his. Helfgot released a remastered series of his teacher's records, many of them having been recorded in the early half of the 20th century.

Hey David, I get this is a bit that you're into, and I'm fine with that. But you need to realize I'm not recording 24/7, and there is so much content to look at/get to. The artist you want reacted to might take a while due to this reason. I read all the comments, and I have already reacted to a Joey Newcomb video. HOWEVER, due to copy write issues I constantly need to go back and edit or RE-edit videos because the artist has them getting blocked/not visible unless I remove a segment or mute it....which would take away from the reaction. So as much as I enjoy the bit, you gotta understand it's not going to get what you want reacted to any faster. Appreciate the view and support as always but please just be patient, I'm only 1 man.
