I have '92 YJ. bought it ~2 years ago. Replaced the floor pans and did some other minor cosmetic work right away...but at the moment it is undergoing the big changes...LS swap, new AX15 w/Advanced adaptors, SYE, Ford 8.8, SOA conversion with FOX shocks...then some custom armor pieces. Im so freaking excited!!

I just came across your channel a couple days ago, it's nice to see you're sticking with the leaf springs. I'm running a spring over with stock YJ springs on my CJ-7 and they flex well enough to keep up with the Jeeps with coil springs and long arm kits. Can't wait to keep watching you get this project going and out on the trails!

Welcome!! Glad to have ya 🤙🏻 it’s nice to have someone not dissing me for staying leafs lol 😂 although I’ve had more support for them than I thought. That’s good to know you have good experiences with that leaf set up, that’s making me feel better about it. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel 🍻

You’re going to need to stretch the front with offset perches or trim the front corner of the fenders to get up travel. With the shackle reversal your axle will move rearward as it travels up.
@altered_life
@altered_life 3 жыл бұрын
larkin kelly I actually already have the front as far forward as I can get it with offset perches. Those front fenders are not staying for the final build. They are just my factory fenders I wanted to throw on to see how it looked all together. My plan is to make custom highline fenders as build gets closer to being finished.

I’ve been binge watching all your videos man, great content!! Love the Jeep! Hope mine can turn out that good! I’m like y’all in a sense where I’m going into it with some lacking knowledge and skills but hope during the build process I can learn and grow! Between your and Sam’s videos, I have a great idea of what I want to do!!! Keep up the grind, keep up the good work and thank you for the inspiration!

@altered_life
@altered_life 3 жыл бұрын
Danny Wiley thank you very much, I enjoy seeing it come together as well 😂 I have more videos coming I just need make time to finish editing and upload them. I kinda have a parts list going for the main parts I’m using but not broken down to every nut and bolt. As it gets closer to being complete I’ll try and post a complete parts list or make another video similar to this one. I have no clue what I’m doing when it comes to LS swapping so you’ll probably see things I mess up on so I’m open to suggestions or advice haha, I’m literally learning as I go and hope I don’t mess up to bad lol

I used an SJ spring on the front of mine and of course the XJ rears but the SJ will give you a little more stretch in the front get the back of that tire away from the fender the centerpins offset about an inch inch and a half
@altered_life
@altered_life 4 жыл бұрын
Mark Mcgee thanks for that info! I’m going to have to take a look at the SJ springs. Do you know if the OEM SJ springs are the same length and height as the OEM YJ? I’ll be doing a different fender option so I’m not as concerned about that but I for sure would love any more stretch I could get. Main reason I wanted to use OEM YJ leafs all around was because I heard they have some of the best flex.
@markmcgee6425
@markmcgee6425 4 жыл бұрын
@@altered_life I've measured them and I believe they're the same length just the center pins offset we're on the YJ they're dead center I'm at work otherwise I'd measure them up for you.
@altered_life
@altered_life 4 жыл бұрын
Mark Mcgee no worries, I appreciate the reply. I’m going to sit down and do some research into them, it seems like if I’d switch to front waggy springs all the way around I’d get an additional 3-4 inches overall stretch. My only concern is I don’t want it much taller than it is now, so I hope the SJ springs wouldn’t add much height. From your experience how is the flex with those springs?
@markmcgee6425
@markmcgee6425 4 жыл бұрын
@@altered_life they seem to flex well I use sliders instead of shackles and as far as your right height you might get a little more out of it but mine lay pretty flat if you want to look up sliders liquid iron builds them and sells them which sliders you get a lot more travel than with shackles
@altered_life
@altered_life 4 жыл бұрын
Mark Mcgee all good to know, I’ve seen the sliders but I’ll probably keep the shackles for now and see how it performs but maybe in the future If I feel the need for them
@kevinrichisneat

What made you want to keep the yj leafs when installing the rear stretch kit?
@altered_life
@altered_life 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Kevin, so that’s a good question and honestly since I don’t have any first hand experience with it I went off of information from some industry professionals. The thought process behind it is the shorter leaf (compared to XJ) will be prone to less axle wrap even though I’ll still run a antiwrap bar. Second thing I was told was that OEM YJ leafs flex the best for factory leaf springs and final though is that if all my leafs are the same, having one spare back at camp would work on any corner of the Jeep incase I bent or busted one. Again I don’t really know much about it but I’m going to test it out and see how it performs haha

All that work you should just go 1 tons from the start. Still a badass build though! Thanks for the good content.
@altered_life

Unpopular Patriot hahahhaha I know 😅when I originally started with these axles in mind I had no clue I would get this deep into it. Fortunately for what I paid for the axles I have about half of what I’d be into 1 tons after the lockers, gears, and what not. With these axles I already have all of that and I just need to upgrade the shafts and I should be good. RCV warranties up to a 40” tire so we will see how they hold up lol. Thanks for the kind words and thank you for watching!

Looks great. I just bought an 06 LJ. Considering an engine swap and more. Curious about your project budget. My guess is that your parts cost will be in the 20K range, not including the initial cost of the Jeep? Labor is always free....LOL.
@altered_life
@altered_life 3 жыл бұрын
Appreciate it and I love the LJs. It’s hard to say my total budget with out sitting down and looking through receipts. I want to say I’m about 14k-15k total in the Jeep so far. Still a bunch to do but hopefully it’ll be under 20k lol

@altered_life
@altered_life 3 жыл бұрын
Currently it’s on OEM YJ leafs all the way around (5 leaf pack). I had to move my rear spring hangers back on the frame to accommodate the 6” stretch. My goal is to keep it as low as I can while doing spring over but I may need to add a leaf or rework the spring pack once the final weight is on the chassis.

Very nice! Planning out a similar build. Why does it seem like the body leans so easily even under your weight?
@altered_life
@altered_life 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Hopefully I can give you some ideas. The body moves so much because it’s only the leaf springs supporting it. The factory YJ leafs are pretty flexy and without shocks to dampen it the move pretty easy.

Why didn't you go coilovers? This is a hell of a build, I'd thought you wouldve went coils kinda like the JL your wife has? Ps I wrote down your subscriber number before I posted the video link on Facebook. You had 669 and now have 681 lol.
@altered_life
@altered_life 4 жыл бұрын
Justin Elliott hahaha yeah, honestly I didn’t plan for the build to get to this level (at least this quick). Everything kinda snowballed pretty fast and now I’m here lol. I already had the money invested in the leaf springs components and those parts installed. also running leafs for now will allow me to finish the Jeep a little faster due to budget. I’ll get to experience it on leafs for a little while, learn how to wheel it and hopefully prove that leafs can still hang with the big boys but I will eventually save up and go to a linked suspension with probably ORI’s. Again I really appreciate you sharing the post, I noticed that as well and that is a huge help. Thank you for sharing and thank you for watching!

@@altered_life I get it. get the rig to a point that it can be driven and had fun with instead of taking 10 years due to budget and time. I did the same with my YJ when i built and installed a 350. years later now that i have had a ton of fun with it and upgrading axles and so on, i'm thinking it may be time to go EFI with an LS like you and many others did. seeing your moab trip and the things you want to get into, i also see the point of start saving now for the coilovers. hopefully those axles hold up for you. sucks breaking down on the trail. great build none the less. square head light rule! interested to see how long of rear driveshaft you'll end up with.
@altered_life
@altered_life 3 жыл бұрын
martin bochenek exactly haha I’m itching just to drive it and experience the difference coming from pretty much stock. It will for sure be a life time build that is forever evolving. I don’t see myself getting rid of it because it was my first Jeep. I’m hoping the axles hold up too lol, the one thing that gives me hope is that RVC warranties their shafts up to a 40” tire. So my though process is that if they are willing to warranty them with the weight of a 4 door JL on them then they should hold up decently as long as I don’t treat them like one tons. I’ll for sure keep posting specs, I’m curious about driveshafts as well. Thanks for watching and thanks for the support!
