@@longbowshooter5291 so did I... although I have a bunny pet at home, and I am supposed to stay on the side of preys, I love all animals and I am actually sorry for the terrible end of the hawk - after all, she just wanted something to eat, she does not understand how cruel the food chain is

Aw. Seems like it took a while for the rabbit to realize the deer was just playing, not hunting it, but once it figured out it was totally excited about it :) They both 'binky'! So cute.

At 0:56, 1:02, 1:10, 1:13, and 1:30 the bunny tries to box (using upper paws to punch) the fawn. There's no doubt the fawn is playing. However, the rabbit is attempting to push away or actually draw attention away from stoney area where she has young burrowed in the ground.

When a rabbit is happy it does this thing called binkying, it'll jump and spin in the air. It'll go running in all directions then come back to you to just jump and spin in the air again. It's extreme happiness. Rabbits will care more for their life rather than their "territory". Territory only become important if another bunny comes and that's when they see who is more dominate, and who can rub their chin on the most things since it's their way of leaving a scent.

"the rabbit was defending itself" - not necessarily. A rabbit has a limited number of ways to express itself. Jumping forward and biting could have been just a way of it being cautious or trying to let the deer know not t get too close, or something else. If the rabbit really felt threatened it could have made a very quick exit from the scene. Instead, it was "pop corning" and staying around. A dog growls when its playing and it growls when it's being aggressive, it depends on the situation. To construe a particular behavior to mean only one thing limits the understanding of animals.

+if6was929 Exactly. I had a pet rabbit for 10 years, and I can tell you - THIS rabbit is playing ! Rabbits are actually quite a) brave, b) curious, and c) playful. When they want to express joy, they also jump and jerk around like this rabbit does.

Um to the person who apparently thinks the rabbit is defending itself, that is absolutely 100% /not/ defensive rabbit behaviour. Rabbits dont hop in the air excitedly when they are threatened, actually its completely the opposite. It's called "binky"ing, where they hop and spin in the air, it means they are very happy. If this rabbit was acting defensively, that deer would no longer have a nose and would be long gone from that encounter. When feral rabbits are being territorial or defensive, they draw blood. Seriously there's always someone who comments on these videos who hasnt done any actual research on the animals in question and just wants to piss in everyone's cheerios. christ.

Rabbit owner here. Completely disagree. Everything about the rabbit's body language is defensive. When rabbits want your company, they follow you. Across the room, across, the house, across the yard, whatever. This is a deer investigating the rabbit, which runs away over and over again, adjusting position to face up with the deer. Yes, they hop for reasons other than happiness - see every rabbit fight ever. They bounce on their hind legs and box. How does that manifest when the thing you're trying to box is three feet in the air? Hopping. You don't see it when they're threatened by predators because they almost always choose to run from predators. That brings me to my next point - Every time a feral rabbit is defensive, a nose is missing or blood is drawn? Lol. If that were true, they wouldn't be the most notorious R-selective breeders in the entire animal kingdom. They pump out babies 1. with incredible quantity and frequency and 2. which are capable of sprinting very early on expressly because they are so bad at defending themselves. Rabbits feed a disproportionately large chunk of the animal kingdom and most of their predators are no worse for the wear. You'll accumulate likes because your theory makes people feel warm and fuzzy, and that's what wins on the internet. Regardless, it's still cute. The idea of a baby deer harmlessly annoying a grazing rabbit can also be a perfectly enjoyable video.
