During the 60s and 70s in the US, as the Civil Rights movement was active, there was another movement in the South West of the country that was gaining ground. The Chicano Movement, although only having a brief overview in US history classes, was just as active as the Civil Rights movement; with protests, walk outs, strikes, boycotts, and also the creation of a paramilitary group called the "Brown berets", mostly happening in California by the Chicanos (American born Mexicans). Along with that was music produced by people who partook in the movement, this is one of them, although I don't know what date exactly. The Chicano Movement is really complicated and a lot of things happened, so I kinda have to make it brief
Also, that part in the lyrics, is a bit of a "yikes" to me

Yo soy tu hermano, yo soy Chicano
Dame tu mano vamos a volar
Bien dice el dicho
Si sangra mi hermano
Yo también sangro
La herida es igual
Dicen que ando alborotando
Porque mi hermano quiero despertar
Tanta injusticia que me está rodeando
Ya no me aguanto yo quiero pelear
Como Zapata y Pancho Villa
Y los tiranos quiero castigar
Hambre y pobreza nos está matando
Ya no me aguanto yo quiero pelear
Yo soy tu hermano, yo soy Chicano
Dame tu mano vamos a volar
Bien dice el dicho
Si sangra mi hermano
Yo también sangro
La herida es igual
Roban las tierras, Roban trabajos
Matan mi hermano
Allá en Vietnam
Perdón le pido a la guadalupana
Tanta injusticia, me hicieron pelear
Ya estoy cansado de voltear la cara
Ya mi paciencia ya se acabó
Chotas y rinches son muy desgraciado
Y la gringa se burla de mi
Yo soy tu hermano, yo soy Chicano
Dame tu mano vamos a volar
Bien dice el dicho
Si sangra mi hermano
Yo también sangro
La herida es igual
