I fell into a very hard episode of dysthymia (a 'kind' of depression) during 2020, almost eight months fighting against this mental illness. There were times in which I couldn't control my thoughts and I honestly believed I was never going to be able to have a normal life again, that it didn't matter if I died tomorrow or in sixty years. I found this song on Spotify by chance, and I swear to god, it was the only song I could listen to in order to calm down, even during panic attacks and other things the medicine couldn't control itself. It was truly a blessing to have found your music, and I believe something or someone out there put you all together to bring joy and heal. Yesterday I took my last pill of antidepressants, and gathered the bravery to leave this comment, as my treatment is finally over. This may never get to you, but I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me getting stronger at times that I was hanging by a thread. Thank you so much for devoting yourselves to music so people like me can find a ray of hope in these when life seems pointless. Thank you, thank you so much.

Sending lots of love ♥️♥️♥️ 2020 has been such a terrible year, but I’m so proud of you for making it through and reaching the end of your treatment. Thank you for summoning the courage to put this out there and carrying on when things got too hard. I saw YoYoMa and the Goat Rope Rodeo at Meadowbrook Amphitheater in Auburn Hills, MI, an outdoor venue on a July summer evening in 2013. My best friend of over 50 years had just had a Bone Marrow transplant and was doing ok. Not long after the concert started, i had a call from his wife telling me that he had just died. This venue had seating in a shell and a grassy hill behind. I bought a couple of glasses of wine and sat on the hill by myself listening to this beautiful music thinking of my friend and they put me in a very peaceful place with the soothing eclectic music that is impossible to explain. I will never forget this night and will be forever grateful t them.

Yeah, I feel pretty sure about two things: no one on earth can play the mandolin like Chris Thile-not even close-and no one on any instrument is as dominant on that instrument as Thile is on the mandolin. I play the mandolin, and the most brutal part about Thile is he’s barely older than I am! I never know, after watching him play, whether I want to practice like mad or just never play again, lol.

@@eashton42 I feel that way about the elite guitarists of the world, and specifically the masters of modern acoustic. Have you seen Antoine Dufour or Luca Stricagnoli? Oh, my stars! I bought 'The Goat Rodeo Sessions' immediately after the album was released, as I have been a dedicated fan of all four of these players for many, many years. But until seeing this video performance I did not realize how perfectly synchronized and tuned-in to the same emotional frequency they all are, while at the same time playing such very different parts. My heart is in my throat, and I am finding it hard to express my feelings just now for this performative achievement. Bravo, gentlemen.! Your talents are much appreciated.

The concept in these Goat Rodeo Sessions is so intriguing! It's simple and straightforward in one moment, complex and intricate in the next; it highlights all 4 instruments in different ways at different times, and none of the players are ever fighting for attention; it's classical and it's bluegrass and it's Irish folk and it's Americana...and it's all just so amazing!

The concept of a quartet is often a very beautiful concept in music. In terms of this style of neo bluegrass, you basically have Upright bass, cello, mandolin and fiddle. That basically fills out the frequency spectrum within the range of the ability for the average human being's hearing. (50HZ to 30ish KHZ) Hertz and Kilo Hertz. Metric system. Scientific notation.

We all ride our antique race bicycles to some large shady trees, perfect for slack lining. Its about 75 degrees, but a calm breeze cancels it out, and makes the leaves lightly flutter. All the friends and the girlfriend are here messing around with the slackline, Andy has the sound cube out, and starts playing some blue grass and Yo Yo Ma. The snowcapped mountains linger in the distance, and some mountain cyclists ride by, covered in mud, indulging in what summer has to offer. Harmony.

'Though There are Torturers Though there are torturers in the world There are also musicians. Though, at this moment, men Are screaming in prisons There are jazzmen raising storms Of sensuous celebration And orchestras releasing Glories of the spirit. Though the image of God Is everywhere defiled A man in Clare Is playing the concertina, The Sistine Choir is levitating Under the dome of St. Peter's And a drunk man on the road Is singing for no reason. Music like this that makes me wish I had learned a string instrument instead of learning saxophone. but DCI makes me wish I learned a brass instrument, so I guess it's all fair.
